my nonna has really bad alzhimers, hit her like a tonof bricks. its very sad.
its worse than her just dying.
i wish she would die already i know that sounds horrible.
but she shits in a reclining wheel chair all day cant open her eyes mumbles incohearant words, the nurses cant take too much time to feed her she probably weights 80 lbs.
her neck is all cramped up
she doesnt respond to anything,

alzhimers runs very hard in my family infact is the only sickness we have no one dies in our family, no cancer, no heart disease, no blood problems.
my great zio died , this month adn thats the first death in our family since 2011, when my great nonna died at 102, she was awesome though and
she was the most active 102 year old ive ever met, she used to say in italian
"i wish god would just take me, things have changed so much andi cant keep up with the times, i am too tired and too old , and i would like to just go now please"
the last death over that was my great nonno when i was like 5 so like 1995 but no one loved him he was an asshole my nonna used to get beaten with frozen meat , and he chased people with meat cleavers he was a bad man

its a sickening way to go
Hey Sunni. Yeah, wishing a loved one would die sounds monstrous if taken out of context, but if you've dealt with diseases like this you understand. My last boss' father had Alzheimer's before my mom came down with it, and he is the first one I heard that from. He wished his father would die, not just for his own sake, but for everyone else burdened with his care. My ex-wife's dad died suddenly from a heart attack two years ago, and after hearing what we're going through with my mom, she said that she was very thankful he went quickly while he was still the man everyone knew. The really shitty thing is that we tend to remember people the way they were right before they died, instead of the vibrant, active, and lucid people they were all of their lives. I don't think I'll mostly remember my mom this way, but it sure is strange to miss someone who isn't even dead yet. This experience has taught me that there are things far worse than death, that's an awful realization to have...

just be prepared for the worse with this. it comes to a point where their body is there but they are no longer with you, its like watching their soul be trapped inside them ,

Turmeric root is purported to be the reason why Alzheimer's is practically non existent in India. They eat it and drink tea from it regularly.

My mom has advanced Alzheimer's disease. We had to sell her home and move her in with my sister a few years ago, as she just couldn't handle living alone any longer. Most care givers for Alzheimer patients will tell you that theirs isn't a smooth decline, rather there's sudden drops in cognition followed by plateaus (if they're lucky). I care for my mom on the weekends to share the burden with my sister, and we noticed another noticeable drop in cognitive functioning coupled with an inability to sleep for more than a couple of hours at a time. She is on several meds, including Donepezil as an ACHE inhibitor for the Alzheimer's. I took her to see her doctor a few weeks ago for a check up and full blood work up, and the doctor is keeping her on the same meds. I've been very curious to see how marijuana would work for her, but each time I had brought it up in the past, she poo-pooed it, stating that it's illegality make her to nervous. I decided to plan a ruse in order to entice her to try it (I'm her medical proxy): I showed her that Illinois just passed a medical marijuana bill (the most restrictive to date), and that her doctor thought it would be a good idea to try some MMJ. I stuffed some of my awesome homegrown OG Kush (this pheno has a nice heady euphoria, followed by a nice all over body stone) into one of her other med bottles, and I told her that I just picked it up from the dispensary on her doctor's prescription. She decided that she would try it! Now, she knew for a long time that I smoke, so I had no trouble breaking out my thick, glass bong with precooler for her: I would start it and get it milky, then have her inhale the smokey tube. She took 3 hits like a champ. In about 5 minutes, she became very verbose and extroverted, and even admitted for the first time that she had smoked when she was in a dance tour company when she was young. That was a revelation :) She seemed more lucid, too, talking about things I haven't heard about from her in years, (she's usually like a broken record with the same old sayings week after week). It was the most enjoyable conversation we've had in many months. I asked her about her hip pain and her arthritis, and she said they weren't bothering her at all. She asked for her doggie bag of take out, and she never does that. That sucked, I was looking forward to polishing off that half a Ruben and fries myself ;) She slept like a log last night, and is sleeping like a log again right now. I texted my sister about all of this and she was thrilled! It will be no problem for me to supply my mom with free dank, Ill let her try all of my strains to see what fits her the best. Do any of you guys have experience with treating Alzheimer's with weed, and do you know of any specific strains that are usually recommended for the disease? Thanks!
I'm sure you only want to do right by your mom. but I question the wisdom of a layman medicating anyone. You should discus this with her doctor. She may have other problems you are unaware of. My mother had the beginnings of Alzheimer's also, but cancer took her before she really lost much of her faculties. Smoking anything at all would likely have killed her immediately. Be aware she may not be truthful about her pain to you. My mother tried to hide her declining health from me. They think they are "sparing" you. I wish you well, my friend.

Good read mate, you and your sister are looking after your mum like champions. Look into getting a vaporiser instead to reduce any bad effects on the lungs from a bong.
I reckon pure strains(Landrace) have the best medical qualities, Malawi and other strains that have high amounts of thcv have better medicinal qualities for mental illnesses than strains with high cbd ratios imo.

I agree, landrace is the best medicine.

America is bad for having strokes from eating too much salt.
New Zealand, Mexico and America are the 3 most obese countries. I reckon yellow stone will blow up soon, earth needs to cleanse itself once in awhile lol.

Andrew - Yeah the uplifting effects of pure sativas is my favourite. Like you said the himilaya sativas have a high cbd too, could have interesting medical qualities.
Nothing beats an Afghani,Pakistan or Uzbekistan genetics for pain and insomnia. Can't wait to try Taskenti.

Hey Red. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, being hit with both diseases must have been devastating. You are right, I often doubt myself and my decisions, mainly because of my very limited knowledge. It took me a long time and a lot of soul searching wrestling with the ethics of whether or not to lie to her regarding the phony doc prescription. In the end I decided that it's akin to fooling a small child into taking their medicine, and the fact that she is declining so quickly that I didn't feel it's much of a gamble. One good thing is that my mom never hesitates to tell me about her pain or what may be bothering her, we hear it often enough. She realizes that she is wholly dependent on us at this point, and that she must make her needs be known if they are to be addressed. Thanks for your concern, my friend...

Thanks man. I may look into a vaporizer, I've smoked out of a water bong for the last 25 years and I'm in pretty decent health. That landrace info is interesting, would you happen to have any links? I'd love to take a look...

My Taskenti is finally recovering from mealy bugs so I am excited to try it out, I hope it measures up to or surpasses the stone of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Himalayan strains actually vary in their cannabinoid profile, according to The Real Seed Company their Charas seeds have 3 chemotypes: high THC low CBD, low THC high CBD, and 1:1 ratio.

na no links sorry mate, google landrace sativa and see what it comes up with?. Everyone is getting tired of these hyped up strains and turning to landraces for the pure effects, Ace Seeds and Cannabiogen are the best sources in seed form.

Andrew2112

Do you have a journal or thread on the Taskenti? I love this plant so far and is frostier than most strains I've grown.
The resin output will be amazing outside, can't wait to see which is stronger - probably the outdoor. Uzbekistan>Pakistan>Afghanistan in my opinion, Ace seeds breeder(dubi) says it's the "opium of cannabis".

It would be interesting smoking a plant with high cbd and thcv. what is a high cbd percentage? 2%?

I have a link to my thread in my signature, so far I agree that Pakistan is better than Afghanistan, I just planted two afghan seeds that were collected by a US soldier in 2012. Hopefully they will be strong and stinky. Sounds like the Uzbekistani has a lot to live up to, you should breed some together to get a plant like that. I will be trying to make some outdoors this year, I am going to cross everything with my Charas plants :-) High CBD would be like 5% or more.

Would you believe a whopping 5-6%? I found these CBD Crew seeds at Attitude - https://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/cbd-crew-seeds/cat_16.html. They have several tasty looking strains, I'll probably order the Critical Mass for the largest yield...

I just did a search on PubMed for CBD and Alzheimer's

it spit out 9 results

This paper looks interesting (I just DL'ed it through the University). I'll let you know if I find something of value in it.

The Role of the Endocannabinoid System in Alzheimers Disease: Facts and Hypotheses

Unlike other neuroinflammatory disorders, like Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease and multiple sclerosis, little is still known of the role of the endocannabinoid system in Alzheimer's disease (AD). This is partly due to the poor availability of animal models that are really relevant to the human disease, and to the complexity of AD as compared to other neurological states. Nevertheless, the available data indicate that endocannabinoids are likely to play in this disorder a role similar to that suggested in other neurodegenerative diseases, that is, to represent an endogenous adaptive response aimed at counteracting both the neurochemical and inflammatory consequences of beta-amyloid-induced tau protein hyperactivity, possibly the most important underlying cause of AD. Furthermore, plant and synthetic cannabinoids, and particularly the non-psychotropic cannabidiol, might also exert other, non-cannabinoid receptor-mediated protective effects, including, but not limited to, anti-oxidant actions. There is evidence, from in vivo studies on beta-amyloid-induced neurotoxicity, also for a possible causative role of endocannabinoids in the impairment in memory retention, which is typical of AD. This might open the way to the use of cannabinoid receptor antagonists as therapeutic drugs for the treatment of cognitive deficits in the more advanced phases of this disorder. The scant, but nevertheless important literature on the regulation and role of the endocannabinoid system in AD, and on the potential treatment of this disorder with cannabinoids and endocannabinoid-based drugs, are discussed in this mini-review.

Yeah Paki's are good with the colours and 'up' indica highs, but a true Afghanica is as potent as any hashplant. Those seeds from your mate should be good, how many seeds do you have?.
Here's a Tashkent 7 weeks in, it was only a mother with little shoots after being used for cuttings. This has far more Hash producing potential than a raw afghan I used to have. Real Hashplants don't usually yield too much anyway. Hey have you tried the Lebanese from the real seed company? man I'd kill for some red leb hash

td,

Wow that Mango Haze have 8-10% cbd! I didn't even know about this seed company; a Jorge Cervantes and Mr Nice collaboration! definite quality genetics then.
Look at Malawi from Ace seeds, It will yield far more than critcal mass but will take longer to flower. I find THCV to be very interesting, especially the african genetics.

Okay, in reading the previous study and a more recent (2011) study on the subject, it appears a key avenue of action is through the CB[sub]2[/sub] receptor.
CBD and CBN appear to be the main agonists of the CB[sub]2[/sub] receptor.
THC is focused on CB1.

I am still deciphering what the authors are saying is the optimum treatment strategy.
I thought I'd post these notes here, if you don't mind, just so I can keep track of what I am learning. It will be important for understanding what these studies are saying.
