Skywalker OG, Hempy Bucket Grow, Area-51 LED's

For the "medium" freaks out there, here is one of the bucket plugs showing the dispersion of roots throughout the coco coir and the 1/2" rockwool cubes. Lots of circling, yes, but mostly in the middle area of the bucket. No circling down low at the bottom like the plant was diving deeper for more in this small 2-gallon environment. To me this indicates a happy girl, content with a balanced moisture/air mixture at the middle of her root zone. Earlier grows with course perlite in the res showed little signs of roots in the res...that's why I tried rockwool down there for a few grows, to ease the transition of roots into the rez. I do run them close to "dry" between watering's.

Just caught up on your harvest. Impressive as always. What's your take on the white light (full spectrum) and getting more frost?

So correct me if I'm wrong Jela, but did you not say previously in this thread that you use Cannazyme which dissolves the old plant matter and you then re-use your rockwool cubes and coco?

I have to say, my plants have definitely hit the reservoir and have exploded with new growth. They’re about to start Week 2 of flower and I’ve never had better plants. These Hempy Buckets seem idiot proof, because if anyone could screw things up, it’s me! I’m also learning what Jela says about less being more. I’m running five buckets at the moment, but in the future four will be the max, with plenty of super cropping and LST’ing. (I only have so much vertical space).

Still popping Sannie’s Herijuana beans. So far, somewhat disappointed with the germination rates, and – those that have popped – their vigor. I’m wondering if it’s because it’s an IBL line.

Watts, can't say much about frost qty. vs. LED, that to me has always been more "strain dependent" and I grow with both HPS & LED's depending on season of year. All I can say is with a proven "fixed" hempy medium combo and nutrient lineup, the lights and the strain are the only differences. Out of the all the LED grows I've done, with a multitude of strains, I've never equaled the yeild of an HPS in flower until now. Being realistic, It's still really not definitive, this strain could be a monster for someone with a T5, who knows. But I do have that "warm and fuzzy" that the Area-51 SGS-160's did make an impact. So I'm a very satisfied customer...I'll will be donating my older 180W LED's to a new grower if that tells you something. The visible spread and penetration with the newer LED's are enough to call that shot.

Pcinla, you are in for a real treat with the hempy bucket system, those plants will reward you. Yes, the rockwool cubes or "croutons" are easily snatched from the bucket plugs as they don't really mesh with the coco. I toss them onto a cardboard flat and pick out the largest clumps of roots and let them dry thoroughly. When time to transplant new kids into freshly cleaned buckets they are at least 2 weeks old and can take full doses (10ml/gal) of Cannazyme. The old deciduous root mater gets dissolved back into plant food on the first feed. Sorry about your Heri's popping poorly. Can't speak for IBL's myself, no experience.

Jela! Sorry I missed the harvest man. Looks like the Skywalker really finished well. Or should I say SWELL. Awesome job man, making hempy and LED's look real good!

Grow Report:
After 11 days since chop I can now say that I’m stoked about the results. Although I had my doubts in weeks 4-> 6, my hempy-brother Wattsaver, knowing my rep for putting up the “big dongs”, caught me bitching about the cola fill-in during weeks 5-6. He pretty much told me “if you like the smoke, you’ll be growing it again”. He was so fucking right-on…this strain is a killer smoke for me and I’ll expound more about that after the grow report. To start, the mother seed blasted out of paper towels within 2 days without pre-soak. From weeks 1-2 in a cup and weeks 3-4 in a small 5qt bucket, the mother matched my most aggressive strains to date with vigor/robustness in larger 2gal buckets. Cloning saw 100% success on 12 clones from this 30day mother. The 2 chosen clones that went into the final 2gal buckets developed fan leaves in veg the size of dinner plates and fatter than most Indica’s. You will automatically “let your guard down” about plant height, only to be surprised after flip, just how stretchy it is. I FIM’ed once in veg and wound up with a couple of 3’s but with this variety, lower branches during stretch grow just as tall as the upper branches with healthy stem diameters. Thinning was required during early weeks of flower and based on height constraints, daily super-cropping during weeks 1-3 helped slow the rampant “leggy” growth. After that it was a waiting game week 4-6 as till cola fill-in which remained somewhat “segmented” till the end. My PK13/14 additions were much delayed from other strains and came in week 6 instead of late wk4-early wk5. Fattening happened more in the final week of flush. Once chopped, this strain dried extremely fast with colas hung and intact. Once buds were singulated they went straight into jars. As far as nutrients, these girls took the entire Canna lineup at “normal” strengths. I wound up with some minor leaf-tip burns but I do that all the time. Temperatures were not a problem to SW OG with upper tent temps running in the upper 80’s and canopy temps in the 82°-85°. The new pair of Area-51 SGS-160’s performed just like my Digilux HPS bulb….with better spread but much less heat and still a great 9+oz yield. My exhaust fan worked less too, sucking less air-conditioning out of the room as a result. The nugs turned out rock hard and dense…1oz only takes up 2/3 to ¾ of a Mason jar. Lots of glitter on the bud for bag appeal. Oh yeah, odor…could have gone without a filter in veg and the first 2 weeks of flower, then it kicked up. I wouldn’t mind so much but it was “earthy-skunky” and maintenance with tent doors open saw lots of odor spread in the house. The CAN2600 filter did the job however all other times. I recommend this strain only to experienced growers simply because it is not an automatic 3 foot tall, 8-week no-brainer. Reading the plant it is required.

Smoke Report:
I always get high for a smoke report…can’t be real without being honest. I toss it around all the brain cells and ratify the final decision with better clarity and hope like hell I can type the words. With today’s hybrids I usually have some issue with the buzz being a little too much of “that” or not enough of “this” but Skywalker is a “mate” with what I call getting high. First off, the taste is unequaled by any of my grows so far….”hash” is all I can say…tastes like freakin hashish. The taste is so sweet you want to keep on smoking even after you’ve obtained a decent buzz. I actually hope I don’t get a tolerance to this one for that one reason. The buzz is like that perfect seat in your brain very much like a recliner set on the edge of a mountain where the landscape is “yourself”. You want relaxation, the mind dials it in. You want to jump up and do something with concentration…the mind gets there too. TV/Movies, you are one of the actors if you want. My mind seems to run the “playground” with this strain, all the while feeling this wonderful comfort and lack of stress. Sleep is no problem…getting some vivid dreams though…unfortunately none of them are real when I wake up. I wish everyone the chance to find this “mate” with their mind-workings some time in their lives.

Hey I want to thank all you that stuck it out and kept the thread clean of flames. I really enjoyed the humor and the side-trips into the late 60’s -early 70’s music videos and our nostalgic references to people & bands that formed our world then and now. That really complemented this grow journal. I will never forget the blondes with harps doing Led Zep’s STH. Numerous dispensaries in the state are making it hard to get cultivation rights on our medical cards these days so I may not be posting anymore grows journals due to my lack of “freedom” anymore. I can buy a pizza down the street or make one at home. Why is it, when a dispensary opens within 25 miles, I can’t medically grow my own all of a sudden? Here’s hoping we legalize for recreational use like we really should and I can grow my own, free of pesticides and nasty ferts for commercial sale, like I just did, with you watching.

Stay cool, stay lit.

Great stuff Jela. Thanks again for doing such a great grow and thread.

I am now having to read my own SWOG....I only have the one in the
tent, but it does do a lot of growing. I expect that I may need to thin
it somewhat. I am at the beginning of week #2.

I lol when I think back to when it was a baby...it was the nice little girl
and I thought that Kosher Kush was going to be the trouble child:
SWOGvsKKOG.jpg

Now Kosher Kush is mainlined and well behaved and the SWOG is
off to the races. :0)

I hope to get something nice too.

Thanks again for sharing.

Jela, this is the most entertaining thread on RIU, not to mention informative. Unfortunately, while there's plenty of information to be found in other threads on here, many of them are tainted by petulant arguments and incessant name calling. Congratulations on a superb grow and a thread I often checked out on a daily basis. I hope you keep the thread going with your next grow, although I do understand the problems you're facing with licensing.

It does seem unreal that you can't grow if you are within an hr drive of a dispensary. I don't know how many dispensary's are popping up in AZ but if they are few and far between then they can bolster prices and keep the price/oz up. But that will foster a vibrant black market system. Tell me if you know the prices in your local dispensary. The prices here are low. Here in the mtn's it's still $240 & down. But there's always a special, a month back a local shop had a 2oz for $275 special. In Denver knock off another 30%. In Jan dispensaries will open a 2nd door to sell to anyone 21. Won't be many cartel sales after that.
