just wondering if any one knows what i should be purchasing in order to grow one plant, eg. how much light, would 150w hps be enough for flowering?
and would be very helpful if anyone has some videos or lists or anything like that

A simple way to do this would be to get a cheap used dresser off craigslist or something, put in a 150w hps, and get a carbon fan/filter combo for exhaust. You can get both the light and the fan/filter online for fairly cheap, htgsupply has both as do other retailers. Depending how big you want the plants to get you could easily do 1-4 plants under that light.

People disagree as to whether soil, hydro, or other substrate options are best for new growers. IMHO soil is easy, it's low maintenance and if power goes out the plant is less likely to suffer as much. You can get pots for cheap pretty much anywhere if you choose to do soil. If you wanna do hydro a lot of people use 5 gallon buckets and they seem to work well.

thanks for the help, hopefully soon i will be buying a suitable grow box, just making sure, a 150w hps would be good for flowering ? as i would be using cfls for the veg stage

You can actually use the HPS for the full cycle, don't need the CFLs. I used CFLs for veg last grow but this time I just use my 150 the whole time and still got good growth. If you are only growing for yourself then a 150 should be fine. My last grow with one plant under it I got a bit over 2oz. This time I'm hoping for 3 but doubt I'll get it, was a bit impatient and probably could've waited another couple days before switching to flower. Link is in sig if wanna see how they do. Also check out the 150w HPS Club on here.

alright thanks, i'll be using cfls for veg just to save some electricity, and already have some from another grow so i might aswell run them out for as long as possible.
can anyone give me some help on where to purchase a 150w hps bulb - reflector and how to connect it all up to a normal wall plug socket (i'm from the UK btw)

Aquaculture is good + good service, bit exspensive but you want to order from a reputable store with online and highstreet shops. They do 150w i think and comes with a ballast that you just plug into the wall. The ballast converts the elec to what the plant needs, only thing you might have to worry about is a good timer, highstreet shop ones here dont run big voltages so buy a contractor to make the unit safer and cheapo timer will be ok.

Can call the shop for advice, they are good for questions, google Aquaculture, best i know off, can get cheaper but i pay their prices anyday.

Lighting is getting intresting these days, many options, dont think at that wattage you can get a digital ballast that will run MH and HPS from same unit. I use cfl's and my best advice is t5 or t8 flouros are a lot better in veg, better light spread and lumens.

Also for one pot you could buy a hydro one pot system, are a lot of fun i am told and easy to maintain. Good luck dude.

Aight, yeah if you already have them then may as well use them. When testing temps check them with each CFLs and HPS before you start so don't run into any problems later. I'm in US so not too sure about what's available to you, found this with a quick google search though http://www.nationallighting.co.uk/Exterior_Lighting/Floodlights/Sodium/catid/13/2/bs/99/1
The worlds our oyster, we got everything in our grow shops but a lot of its more dutch market, i notice some universal american Uk products in the mix though. Bud box do small grow tents, you can get sweet 150/250 lights over here, bulbs are very cheap once you bought the unit. 150w is a little low. What you thinking on the ventilation?

One other point, 150watt HPS isn't worth worrying about hiding the light from, it aint much more than a 100w bulb, i leave my grow door open and it just looks like i left the lights on, nice orange glow just like a normal lightbulb. Save on a a grow box maybe.

If he's only gonna use a 150 to flower with though it'd be best to at least have walls around the sides to reflect more of the light back to the plant. Plus if he can find a dresser or something for almost nothing online/yard sale etc then no reason not to make it a bit more stealth and avoid any possible problems. For ventilation I have a 4" inline, but that's bc everything is crammed into a little space. He could easily get away with a couple good pc fans if don't need a good carbon filter attached.

Agreed dude, just he aint got to worry bought light leak, police aint bothered one plant here either, not like you can grow it in your back yard thought!lol! I'd like to just run a desk fan/pc fan rather than an inline for a stealth. Saying that hardware shops do decent small kitchen bathroom inline and vent fans which might be a good alternative, cheap and not very powerfull but for a small box and 150w should be fine, i run one, been going 24hrs for a year no probs.

Why not run this instead of one 150w, more light sources are better than one single point, 150w means LST and topping anyway so at least consider one of these -

it looks quite expensive, think i'm gonna stick to the hps, if i can find out how to work everything. and btw i've seen to get away with growing in my back garden growing 3 6ft plants atm and living in london :)
and again any chance you could send me some links to everything i would need around a 150w hps. thanks

Easy 150w HPS ballast with any reflector that has E40 light connector fitted, most units should be pre wired with plugs, just plug into the wall screw in the bulb, 150w shouldnt blow any fuses in your electrics but always be safe.

A contractor is a unit you plug the light unit into, dont know if you need one with a 150w. basically the contractor takes care of the high amps and wattages so your home power supply and timers can handle them without blowing.

Seems like you just need to shop around and do some research on lighting. I will try and find a 150w so you can see, give me a tic.

Also buy a contractor and timer and thats all you will ever need.

More advice, 150watt keep veg time short, keep plant short. Recomended no more than 2 plants max.
