A cfl is a t2 floro. it has a wattage output like all lights. I have a a cfl that is 26w = 100w old style lighting.

Is there an equation that figures the equivelence?

Using t8 bulbs i am wondering what my lights rate at in wattage.

Again thanks to everyone whos looked in here, I'm not saying I grow prize winninng specimens under my CFL's when it comes to yield :-) and have never claimed that.... but these CFL's keep me smoking happily all year round, and thats what its all about !

Thanks PowerZZ :-) I'm planning to take them another 2 weeks but I'll see how they go as they are finishing fast.

jjmd, add those side lights it will only help.

Just a quick update, 7 weeks and 1 day 12/12 today.

See this is exactly why I want some NL beans I think I might have to splurge on 'em and get them quick before I have to break down the equipment for the summer. Those nugs look top notch bro top notch. In two more weeks I bet they will be ooozing resin.

THREAD UPDATE.
Good morning rollitup CFL growers :-) I'll try to answer some questions re the bulbs below and as requested by nolimits a shot of my bulbs.

This morning I am very happy because yesterday there was some good news in relation to musician Edwin Strattons legal challenge regarding the UK Governments implementation of the Misuse of Drugs Act. A Crown Court judge has finally agreed to hear the 'abuse of process' argument that ED and his dedicated legal team have been fighting for since his arrest 18 months ago for cultivation. This is a major breakthrough and his legal arguments are VERY strong. We should all support him, so if anyone would care top listen to Ed's interview on 'Dopefiend' inwhich he sets out his case I have posted a link at the bottom of this post. Its 45 minutes long but full of Ed's good humour, although you will be left with no doubt about his determination to fight and win this case! PLease have a listen if you can :-)

OK enough of the legal stuff! My NL is a couple of days off 8 weeks flowering now. Condition overall was not good so I gave her an initial trim up and tied her up to get those buds as close to the 350watts of lightling as I can, 2 to 3". I'm in no hurry for her so she can stay there until I have squeezed every last bit of energy from her, I want to see those pods really swell now :-) I love the couchlock effect. Pics below.

nolimits, you asked about lighting? well I use standard small 'household' CFL's or 'low energy bulbs'. I just use lots of them! The pic shows the difference in colour temperature between a 2700kelvin 'warm white' (actually quite a yellow light) and a 6500k 'daylight' or blue bulb). I'm in the UK obviously and the 'blues' are harder to find on the High Street here but can be ordered online. The warm whites are sold in most DIY stores and supermarkets. If you use the bigger 'Envirolights' they are the same but with higher wattage.

Sorry for the long post today, back in a few days with next pic update :-)

thanks alot mature smoker!
your sound mate. do you advise to get more 2700 yeah...?
nolimits,
I would add more 2700's if you can BUT there are those who do flower with more 6500's and do well! But I'd say mainly the 2700's for flowering.

Of the 350watts I use only 80watts are 6500 the rest are 2700k (so around the 25% mark for me) but they still give a slight blue tint to the overall lighting and my plants seem happy enough with that :-)

Wow those nugs are looking great there MS. You can really see how much they have swollen in the past week. I'm sure your glad this is getting ready to chop to make way for your new clone.

Hi GFK,

Last couple of weeks is always the best bit :-) You get to see almost daily growth of the buds! I'll take her to the full 9 weeks then see how she looks.

The buds are pretty firm to the touch when you give one a squeeze, and as they finish they will harden up further as the pods swell. Feels a nice bit of weight on there too for small plant and pretty resinous as is typical of Northern Lights.

As to whats next.... well I'm thinking of doing something different now as I have plenty of NL in the jars already! So it may be Dutch Passion White Widow x2 feminised seeds in DWC :-) I like to mix things up a bit. Not sure yet though.

IPod touch is for an idea of scale, not a big plant but for a 2 week vegged cutting shes not bad I think?

Not looking bad.... You get more growth then I do easily. I have a hempy grow that can't get past 10", and it's been going for almost 2 months. I am waiting to see about the hydro grow that I'm trying now, but from what I see you doing I'm going to go to good old fasion dirt. AND SOON!!!

jjmd, looks good to me :-) To be honest a lot of it is down to genetics and this pheno stood out from 3 other NL's for her vigour and yield, thats why I stuck with it. When you find a good one you will know. I'm doing a DWC grow next!

UPDATE @ DAY 59 12/12. I'm taking her to possibly 9.5 weeks, I'm looking for heavy couchlock this time! :eyesmoke:

Buds are browning but still growing so another 7 days should do her nicely.

Thanks for all of the positive comments there, appreciate it :-) I'll try to answer all the questions and post some more pics.

Firstly SirSmokesAlot :-)
1. I harvest around day 77 from germination or 11 weeks total, that includes a short 2 week veg and on average yield is around 1oz and a Q fully dry. Now I know I could do better ( longer veg/bigger pots/HPS etc etc....) BUT its more than enough to keep me smiling :-) Generally I pull just around 2.5 oz dry every 9 weeks, I have a small cabinet plus a smaller veg cabinet!

2. I dont really feed at all first 2 weeks then I feed Bio 'grow' for a couple of weeks then switch to the 'bloom' after first 2 weeks stretch period. 3 weeks from finish they get a single shot of Canna PK 13/14 booster.

3. I start LST soon as possible! Pull the main top down and then I remove that top and as side branching develops I pull them all 'out and down' if that makes sense?

4. Not sure about the '9 week process', its an 11 week process here. Bottom line is I have to contain them within my small (metre square) cabinet so I can't veg too long.

********************************

OK, pics were requested of the cab/CFL's so here you go plus a latest pic of the NL lady...shes at day 18 of 12/12 today and starting to explode with those pre flowers now :-) You can also see a little Hindu Kush I have in flower at 4 weeks 12/12.

Anything I have overlooked I'll answer later.

Cheers.

Hey there MS,

Very excited about your grow, I have been scouring the forums for the last couple of weeks looking for something like this, and I am really keen to see how this works. Your plants look great, the end result looks sweet, and the yields sound just fine.

Have you seen these new high wattage cfl's, you can get them in blue or red or combined, they come in up to 300 watt each bulb, so you can really throw the lumens at your plant without the heat of HID's. For a closet setup like most cfl users are stuck with, this sounds like the answer to all our problems, does it not?

WOuld love to know what others experiences are of small head hights and maximising yields, although like I say your yields seem just fine.

Can I ask, how tall are your plants when you finish. At what stage do you top them, and do you pinch or cut off the tops?

Really appreciate the time you are spending letting us all know how you are doing this, and the phots etc.

Best of luck,
Prof.

Hey again, a quick query MS.

At what stage do you take your cuttings and from where on the plant. Do you root the tops that you take off? When do you top them? Can you take cuttings from plants that have already started flowering with any success?

If you take cuttings after say the first week at 12/12, then 2 weeks of rooting plus 2 of veg means that you have plants waiting to go into the flowering room weeks before it will be ready? So do you just keep them going and take more cuttings from those cuttings, once they are big enough, and then wait until your flowering room is ready? Does that make any sense? lol

One other thing, did you prune off all the fan leaves from those babies, they dont have any left! At what stage do you do that? Does it not slow down the overall growth and therefore reduce yield? It doesnt seem to, but are you mainly doing it to allow good light penetration to the colas? I guess its a compromise.....

Would really appreciate some info here, need to get a calendar filled in!

Many thanks,
Prof.
