There are some places that already do this with community service and it does work. Local officials just need a little common sense to administer the programs. In my neck of the woods the people who refuse to participate are not cut off but what they receive is greatly reduced. The program they claim has encourgaged a greater number of people to return to work.

No matter what programs there are available, there will always be people who would prefer to be homeless. A few food stamps and a whiskey bottle or rock to smoke and they are happy campers forever.

"They do jobs American workers won't take".
I always thought that was the most bullshit excuse I ever heard (and still do).
There are plenty of jobs out there if you want to work.
Too many people in this town don't even look for jobs.They sit on the front porch all day chatting on cell phones, driving cars with huge chrome wheels, harassing working people on the sidewalk and getting all the benefits of being truly un-employed.
Some have jobs and still get a huge amount of food and money each month.

Lots of those on aid have children. Who the fuck do you think makes a country great? That's right, children. Children are the future work force.

If parents are forced to "volunteer," child care rates will go up because of that whole pesky demand thing. Will child care be free while you volunteer?

With increased demand, comes increased supply. With this new influx, comes less competent day care workers. Also, since demand is so high, more child predators will come to the "rescue." Those child victims will become future aid recipients rather than participating in the work force as "productive members of society."

A child's parents are most qualified to care for their children. Making sure those who want aid have children developing properly towards productivity would be better use of our time. But we don't do that.

All we care about is outside forces and not the problem itself. We don't give a fuck about our children like when our nation first formed. We just ship them off to school and let government make sure they're good. We lost our parenting.

If you think I'm wrong, look at Japan. It has negative population growth. Despite still its advances, if it doesn't solve its population problem, its population wiil be less than it was when Commodore Perry first step foot on their islands.
