Seedsman velvet grow.

It's been exactly 7 days since i put the germ'd seed into soil

I just used a mix of fox farm potting soil and fox farm ocean forest mix. I'm not really much of a soil grower (you can see i have the pot sittting on top of one of my old drip buckets (don't worry, it'll be in use soon, lol). I am hoping the mix of soils will keep nut burn away as I've heart ocean forest is pretty "hot". I would have just cut it with perlite, but this is what I had laying around already, so whatever.

This is my only velvet femenized seed, and I've never grown it before.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing with this plant yet. It will either veg out for a couple more weeks and go into flower, or I will veg it out long enough to pull clones if i really like what it's doing. Either way it will remain under CFLs until it develops a mature set of leaves, then i'll be turning on the 150w hps. I still have 2 seedsman femenized ww seeds that I've been saving. One of them will be going into the hydro unit and used for next summer's outdoor grow.

Anyone have reccomendations for nutes? I only have GH 3 part right now. I was thinking of using fox farm nutes as well as soil.

Anyways. Here's the standard pics of what's going on with the baby girl. It looked to be stretching a little so i just lowered my cfls down. Should be good now :weed:

Day 8. Gave it a good watering a few hours ago. Should only need to water about 1/3 gallon per week right now.

has anyone else here ever grown velvet bud before? I haven't seen many reviews.

Growth has been slow. No point in taking a picture of the plant, but did take a pic of what i'm enjoying tonight!

I think my friend gave me ocean forest soil.. this thing isn't growing for crap. I'm about to put it in my hydro bucket and hope it lives.

This soil is obviously way too hot. I dunno how he grows anything in it from seed

Hey you got the same potters I do! lol. Just chiming in since no one has; I've never heard of a velvet strain before. Is it supposed to be ind. or sat. dominant?

I just want to throw it out there that your problem might not be the soil, but the cfls. Those things are so close, and the leaves are wrinkling showing their too hot, it really doesn't HAVE anywhere to grow, 'cause it'd just get it's ass burnt off. Just a suggestion, but I'd switch to the hps before you do anything drastic with the medium.

Oh sorry, I just read the last post and it seems my advice is too late. Anyways, good luck.

the ends of the cfls aren't very hot, i can leave my hand on them indefinetly and not have any discomfort.

there's a link to the strain. I had another plant fail in this same soil, looked like shit. I put it outside in SAND with guano mixed in, topped the soil with more guano, watered, and a week later it took off. I really think ocean forest needs cut with perlite. I'm going to buy some today and put a new seed in the perlite.

strain looks good. I'm not at the point where I've ordered genetics, but I'm trying to learn everything I can about different strains so that I'll know what to get when I do.

any changes since you made the move to new medium? I had a friend swear FFOF was the best stuff around, and that I should just throw away the plants I had in MG and start over, but he always used clones, so now I'm glad I didn't take his advice.

It's fairly strain dependant. some strains can handle the hot soils right off the bat, and some cant

Most bagseed is less sensitive to these types of things.

MG soil is also pretty "hot" as far as nutes go. Ocean forest is a better choice all around. It's just better quality.

It's just finding a good mix to cut your soils with and knowing your genetics well.

It looks to be starting to recover in the drip system. This is my last seed of this strain, so i'm really trying everything i can to save this plant!

I bought a bag of light warrior today and started growing another plant in a 50/50 mix of light warrior and ocean forest. These strains seem to be very sensitive to nutes so I'm playing it safe this time.

I actually put this thing back in a 50/50 light warrior/ocean forest mix. It looked dead for about 3 days, but now is coming back to life.

I think you guys will like these pics.

Also started a WW mother plant in the same soil mix and it's kicking ass after just a couple days

Well, this was the last seed i had of this strain, and i had no existing plants.

The plant didn't react well to the transplant from hydro into soil, but after 3 months i nursed the seedling back into good health.

It's now just a little over 1 foot tall, looks healthy besides a little burn in the top set of leaves from where they just got too close to the light.

she started showing hairs a week or so ago, so i just took 8 clones last night and just flipped her into 12/12.

Oh, and here are some pics

It's under a 150w hps.. Not looking too shabby for 10 days.

I took 8 clones from it 2 days before it went into 12/12. They are all pretty much rooted now.

This plant has been through so much. It started out in straight ocean forest soil, which was WAY WAY WAY too hot for it, so i put the seedling into my gH hydro bucket, which i've been having issues with, so it started to come back but didn't last long in there... i transplanted back into light warrior with very very light nutes and nursed it over the course of a couple months. It has rewarded me very well, as you can see!

This was my only seed from this strain, so i really really wanted to save it. I have a good feeling about it.

wat up dood! im fuzzybudz~! nice growing dood! love it. i use 150 watt hps fer flowering right now, bout to get a 400 and use that fer flower and the 150 fer veg. but i got sum ak--47 four and a half weeks flowering and and in my xperience with this light (this is my second grow under 150) how far is that 1 away from the canopy?? looks a bit far, careful tho they will burn ur buds tho!. but yea im sub'd and checkin this strain out.

i try to keep the light about 6" from the canopy. I moved it up a little extra the day i took those pics because the plant was still going through it's stretch and i was going to be gone for a day.

3 weeks in!

Kinda wish i would have transplanted. I give her a liter every 2-3 days now with full strength GH nutes... I'm sure within a few weeks it will be every day.

Supplementing with molasses.

Trichs just started developing within the past day or two. Not sure if I have a purple pheno yet because I've never grown a purple strain.

I got a little too close with the light and burnt a couple leaf tips. no harm no foul.

I can't wait to scale back up into a real setup. About to go buy a couple 600's and go back to aero soon enough :D

Got bored and threw in another 150w light in the closet. Put two clones underneath it today. I think I'll put another there tomorrow. I think i can run 6-8 plants under this thing as long as i just use 6-8" clones. I plan on keeping one strain under one light and the other strain under the other light.

This plant hasn't went purple. Kinda disappointed. I don't think I'm going to keep the strain going unless i really like the bud.

I'll grab more pics tomorrow.
