Rosin

imo the consistency of the rosin is more dependent upon the strain than anything.
Different strains can be stored at the same humidity and pressed at the same time/temp, but turn out completely different in texture.

Also, the length of time to press depends on the size of your puck. It takes longer to heat through a bigger puck.

Just got an 8 ton press yesterday. My parchment paper bled through onto the plates in my first pressing so I thought I'd try pressing directly on to silicon mat. Seems promising. Is there a reason not to?View attachment 5119841View attachment 5119843
Sounds like you pressed to fast or too much pressure. Give the material a few seconds to warm up with very slight pressure, then apply more pressure till it's done to where you want it.

Doesn't look like you're using bags. Or is that just blowout material?

Bags are ordered. Also dab tools and silicon containers. I have nothing.

Pressure: I made a 2 gram puck and closed the press lightly to preheat for a couple minutes at 200 then squish. How do you know when it's done lol. Without a gauge on the jack how do you know you've applied the right pressure?? Just keep opening up and looking?

A gauge only gives you the pressure that is in the hydraulic system. Not the pressure at the platen. The size of the surface you have between the plates is what determines the pressure you need to think about.

Think about snowshoes. The larger the surface area of the shoe the less you will sink. Even though you still weigh the same.

When I pre heat it I like to hold the puck between the plates with a little pressure so it can heat the puck right to the middle and I leave it there till I start seeing it froth almost, if it doesn't froth I put a little more pressure till I start to see the frothy bubbles oozing out the bag then I start squishing. Seems to work good for me that way

I press bigger pucks. 4-5 gram. And it looks like u need better flower. Let the puck heat for 10-15 seconds and i press for between 2-2.5 minutes at 210°

I press 6 gram pucks try to get around a gram to gram and a half per puck.
Use the cylinder press and a 120 micron bag.
Seems to work really well, got the same % yield as when I would do 3 gram pucks. Tried as big as 10 grams but the percentage went down a little so I just do 6 grams now.

So a 6 gram puck of flower gets you about 1 to 1.5 grams of rosin?

Is that average or pretty good?

I would guess its strain dependent, but...

If i did my math right, he's at about 20% return. Good in my book. And yes, very much strain dependent and how dry your bud is before pressing. Seems if it goes over to the "dry" side, the returns are shit. I did a press of some 6 month outdoor last week that i was pretty happy with. Yield and color

Makes sense that drier stuff would yield less...

I get between 10 - 25% strain dependent. Hell I think I got less off some strains.
Most I get is from my Twinkle tarts 6 grams gets me 1.5- 1.6, them my sundae driver I can also get 1.5 which is 25% my lowest of my keeper's is cherry garseeya at 10%.

This is all moisture dependent as well. If they aren't 58-65% humidity your just not going to hit the yields I don't think.

And yes like the other poster said, as these young kids say "fire in fire out"

I find the silicone are very slick and sometimes the puck slides. I use paper chef parchment, a nugsmasher mini and never get bleed thru, perhaps you use a lil too much pressure..

Are you satisfied with the Mini? I've been looking at presses and NS seems to always be near the top of the list; the Mini seems like a good beginner press.
Thanks!
