my first indoor setup in 4x4 rockwool cubes and my timer only goes to 8 hours...so here are my options.
1 water 3 times during 18 hour at 5 min 10 min?
2 set it on a 24 plug timer and water once a day. i heard it's hard to over water ?? what do you think??
25 gal res cgc1 controler ebb and flow. dont mind the readings in the pic it was before i got up and running the water sechedul goes by seconds up to 60 than 5 min 10 min 15 min up to 60 min and timer will only turn it off for a max of 8 hours. it takes 3.5 minutes to start flowing back down to res.

4" x 4" rockwool cubes I would water once/day at that size. Very nice looking setup by the way.

What light do you have there?

Out of curiosity what is the strain? Are these clones you picked up from a dispensary?

It all depends on what size cubes your using, each cube can only hold so much water, after that any more just washes straight through.

When the cube is getting close to being dry, this seems to be when the plant gets the most rapid growth, so I tend not to go on a schedule but more when they need it.

purple kush yea clones from harbor bay club my buddy said they are a good hardy strain that can take some abuse from a first timer, 1000w hps yea 4x4 cubes speaking of rapid growth my friend just came by and said when they start to get dry is when they "reach" root faster for water to get a good root base you should let the cubes almost dry up than let them feed. wyat do you fellas think??

Thats the way I work, but its walking a tight rope if you let it get too close

I think that's bullshit...rockwool is a fairly forgiving medium unless you let it dry out too much. Water once daily for 15-30 minutes and they should be just fine. You definitely don't need to water more than that unless your temps are high and that 1000w light is sucking the moisture out of your cubes quickly. The plants only need it once/day right now and will need it 2x /day starting in about 7-10 days. Once flowering starts you'll want to get up to 3x/day in that setup.

Are these plants sitting on top of a rockwool slab or are you planning to add hydroton? 4x4 cubes don't provide enough rootspace and you'll lose a lot of yield. I used to grow that way and once I switched it changed the world.

tight rope sounds good but this is my first round...no rockwool slab..i don't know what a hydroton is..fill me in if you have time. they're just in 4x4 cubes..b/c a good friend of my use to grow this way wit this set up.. I know pk is not a big yield but would like to have nothing but good yields in the future...all help is neede and thank you guys for your time! anything comes to mind, please send it my way.

Check out my Fucking Incredible journal and you'll see what I mean. I started in 4x4 rockwool cubes, then a week or so ago I transplanted into pots with hydroton. They are clay balls that will give your roots the room they need so that your plants can take up all the goodness possible.

OFR - I agree with laserbrn. Put the 4x4s on a mat or slab. This will give your roots somewhere to go and become large enough to support the uptake they will need in the coming days. Keep the mat moist and in-turn will keep the roots alive and happy. I have seen friends do what your doing but they ran their pump every 2 or 3? hours day and night and the roots just filled the tray and yields were much more than if they relied only on the 4x4 as the base.

so these "mats" are like coco mats or something that you lay on the bottom of your trays and it gives a place for the roots to go? Where can I find these?

hey laserbrn, are their any problems with the cubes drying out while they rest on the hydroton or are yu still wetting them a little? If not I assume the roots do fine with the top half of them, stuck in rockwool while the lower half is free to grow in hydroton. Do yu now flood every two hours or still on the rockwool water schedule. I read your jornal and did not see this answered but I left you a question. any answers I would appreciate as I have some 4 in rockwool I wish was in hydroton.

I originally changed the watering to every 2 hours and the plants looked overwatered. I now have them setup to water 4x/day which is more than I would do with rockwool and less than I would do if it was JUST hydroton.

So far the plants seem happy with that, but they are still small and I imagine that by the time we get to full stride in flower they will be back no every 2 hours.
