Hello everyone, I've decided to start this thread to give users a chance to post questions and comments on the Soil/Less Growers Guide without taking up space in the thread for posts.

Thanks to everyone that has left comments on the thread, I'm glad you're enjoying the information. I'll be posting the Vermicomposting article I've been working on tonight or tomorrow morning, hope everyone stays tuned, the updates will keep coming :blsmoke:.

Please leave comments on what you'd like to see covered in a write-up, and I will do my best to do a detailed report on different aspects of organic growing.

Thank you everyone, the link for the thread is in my siganture if you're interested in viewing :weed:. Peace and Love

Thanks for the articles on composting. I have some questions. :bigjoint:

Organics is about creating living soil rich in organisms. Is your set up actually inside your house and created in a controlled situation? What about compost created outside on the ground where it interacts with the earth. Will this soil have undesirable organisms?

Do you plant directly in the compost or top dress with compost?

I have cats that use wood pellets for litter. The result is urine soaked sawdust which I use in an outdoor compost pile after removing the feces. Would this bio matter be suitable in a controlled compost? :eyesmoke:

Yes, my compost is actually split into double duty. I have two warm active piles that compost is transfered and in and out weekly in my grow space (currently not occupied). I use heat mats, usually for germination, under my piles to speed up the compost for short-term usage. I run an outside vermicomposting system as well, no need to ever purchase castings and rich organic soils ever again :blsmoke:. This system takes a little longer (4-6 months), but with the warm pile inside I have a constant supply.

It depends on your environment really. This is the number one way to inhabit your compost and in turn soil, with nasty mites or aphids. If you follow the diagram for the compost pile I included you shouldn't have any problems with insects. I also try to collect ladybugs for my compost piles as they do a magnificent job of eating undesirable insects and such in and around the compost.

Do you plant directly in the compost or top dress with compost?
I mix my compost with my soil mixture, well mixed. You can use it as a topping but once as a seedling and again at the beginning of flowering. It's much more efficient to mix into the soil, that hugely contributes to the conditioning of your soil, but it depends on how much compost you have available to you and how much your soil recipe calls for :)

Yes indeed, sawdust however has a very high C/N ratio (nearly 500:1) so you would need to offset with many lower ratio organic substances.

Good questions, hope you can find everything you're looking mate, I'll be around

Sweet set-up kush. like what you got going on.gotta give you props man. anyways, question i had was, what do you think about chicken maure pellets as a source of nutrients?thanks.once again, solid set-up:bigjoint:

Thank you Doctor :blsmoke:. By placing chicken manure pellets or other controlled-release fertilizer or slow-release organic material in the bottom of plug trays before seeding or planting, you can help avoid plants running out of nutrients, and is especially helpful when growing organically since your plants will always have that layer in which they were first planted to absorb nutrients. Hope that helps you mate

Thanks again Dr, the next update will be the importance and complete break-down of all things ... shitty ;); bat guanos, worm castings, kelp oil, and emulsions of all walks of life. Stay tuned everyone, we'll have everyone growing organically in no time :blsmoke:

I dislike all advertising and most of it is inflated as to the benefits. I'm glad that the owners of this site are making advertising dollars however I choose to ignore banner ads. :joint::-?

you gonna pay the bills for us?
it's only a rip-off if you think you are buying something other than what you are.

I harvested a male this week  he was beautiful. I shouldn't complain because the male/female ratio seems to be bang on at 50/50. I'm not 101% sure about the other males yet but I'm 95% sure. I harvested the tops although I know the debate is still on about potency of males.

Can I recycle the soil? :weed:

This is my first grow and I am using both organic and hydro methods for comparison. Each system has it's pros and cons and the pro of hydro is speed in growth! My hydro plants are almost double in size.

I took the lowest 2 suckers off a girl (I hope) growing in hydro and planted them in organic yesterday. I left the lowest node of each sucker still attached to the mom. Each clone has the main cola plus 4 suckers. I removed the big leaves, scraped the skin off a piece of the stem and used a powder root hormone. I covered in plastic for humidity and left a small opening for circulation.
24 hours later and they have not wilted or sagged and look as happy as when they were still attached to mom. :D :D :D

I do prefer organic and expect it to taste better but don't know when that will be. In the meantime I'm grateful for my hydro girl and a faster supply while I wait for the process of organic. mmmm :weed::weed::weed:

Yes sir, I highly encourage it actually :D. Make sure you put your soil in an oven-safe container and bake it at 150 degrees for 20 minutes, this will kill the bacteria and bad microbial growth, allowing you you to control your medium from the beginning. Next, you're going to want to add your composting materials (a basic list includes: perlite, fresh table scraps, cuttings, and greenery). Once the soil has cooled a bit your worms can be added These are essential to reconditioning soil, they add new microbial growth that will benefit the soil and also enrich it with castings. The whole process of reconditioning the soil takes about 3 months, but if you use a lot of soil like I do, it's best to leave no traces, reuse and be thrifty, and gain a good understanding and connection with your medium. I reciruculate my soil much like my harvests, each are equally rewarding times you'll find :blsmoke:. Happy growing

My first organic planting was done before I found this list and I planted in Scott's and Miracle Grow soils. Since finding this list I have top dressed with bone and blood meal and castings. The plants are doing well although I have not flowered them yet. Two weeks to go! :weed:

I want to make organic soil for my next batch early enough so it has time to mellow. This time, rather than buying Scott's soil I'll look for a simple inexpensive soil medium that has no additives but is sterilized and has good drainage. Correct?

I want to add Bat Guano to my mix and found some in a local hydroponic store however it comes in 2 formats, veg or flower. Which one should I use?

Thanks for the help...:joint::joint::joint:

Go with the fruit-eating bat guano mate, the flowering guano is easier to moderate and administer. Good luck :blsmoke:

On the other thread there is mention of a couple videos that demonstrate the creation of a worm bin, but I cannot seem to find any link to those videos. I'm very interested in this because a mentor who taught me to grow had used a method like this but never full explained how it was done.

I'd enjoy seeing these videos if they are still available.

Thanks!

P.S. Great guide!

I suggest you look at You Tube, they have videos on almost everything. You should also try the Google search engine. I'll bet you will find the videos there.

I now have gnats, probably from the worm castings. I don't think they are damaging my girls but they annoy the hell out of me and the population is exploding. I did a search for information and found some preventative measures but it's too late to prevent and I don't want to use pesticides. I'm going to Bustan's this week in hopes of finding a simple solution. :?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. :peace: :joint: :joint: :joint:

Hey All, back after a long, long, absence. Long and short moving from place to place, no solid place to grow other than to support my friends that took up the cause. Anyways, would love to get this thread rolling again, good to have a place to bounce different remedies off each other, like a Plant Problems forum for the soil-less growers.

Feel free to post away, will be monitoring this thread daily for support and as always feel free to send a P.M. if you have severe issues or concerns. As always, happy growing, keep it green
