Returned item and getting charged. Thoughts?

I bought a CMH setup from growershouse and when I plugged it in it was making electrical arcing noises. I had bought two setups and only one was making the noise. Swapped everything around so the only constant was the ballast and still the noise.

They accept a return, test it and find it doesn't make those noises and try and get me for shipping both ways as a favor by not charging a restocking fee.

We ended up settling on splitting the shipping since me getting away free wasn't gonna happen.

I realize im biased, what do others think?

To me I feel wronged because at the end of the day im the one who has to use the ballast thats making arcing noises. Or not use it which is what I would end up doing as the fear of it setting my house on fire isn't worth the price.

I sure wouldn't use it. Burning you house down sucks, lol. Been on both sides of that equation . I guess you know for future purchases that they will not stand behind your purchase. Just my opinion.

That's bullshit. Maybe charge for shipping one way, but I wouldn't even want to pay that. I usually do HTG supply or Amazon, they are both awesome about returns. Too many vendors out there to be treated like that, fuck those guys...
HTGS is fabulous. We have a walk in store 30 miles down the road. Point rewards card with numeric ID.....I use their store brand digital balasts, probably the same internals as the other name brands anyway. Blew a 4 wk. old MH bulb once, instantly replaced...no problem. They treat you like they want your business AND they carry your sacks of soil out to the car. Nice guys!

since they split the fee(s) with you it's kinda sorta fair but i would register a complaint with the local BBB if they are listed and do business elsewhere. i would also write a letter to whoever is the CEO/owner of the company. be nice but explain what happened and include copies of whatever. Sometimes when you talk to the boss, you get results...sometimes

Was my first time with them. Will be last. If you dont factor in returns into your prices then you suck at business.

Dont make your customers pay because they are unhappy with a product making strange noises that you cannot replicate.

We settled on splitting but I wasnt happy about it. But agreed because their return policy is plain english.

I usually go thru amazon prime but they wanted like $70 more per unit.

Heard nothing but good things from HTG. Pricing is high. But guess you get what you pay for and growershouse has some of the best pricing but look how you get treated when you need to make a return.

That doesnt make sense but could I expect more from TnT?

And no it was 3.5 bills. Not terribly expensive
pardon the triple post, but if you like the concept of a CMH, check out the new(er) 600 w mh setups.
ballast for 2 bills, bulb for 80.
more lumens, and you can switch the ballast wattage or use a hps.

So I haven't read all the post, but I use to be a General Manager of a hydroshop in Dallas. We did not take returns. And the other dumbasses that worked there before me didn't know how to tell the customers how to make a return.

So there are two major warehouse distributors in America. Sunlight supply and hydrofarm. (there is one more but it's a northern cali thing)

But you should have called the supplier not the hydroshop. I've had a couple ballast go out on me, and I just call the costumer sales rep and they pay for the shipping and everything. When you take it back to the hydroshop they actually have to pay for shipping so they will indeed charge you for it.

Just a heads up for next time.. If you order from online I highly suggest 1000bulbs.com they seem to have the cheapest prices.. I paid 150 for my nanolux ballasts, 20 for solarmax bulbs and 55 for aircooled hoods. They have DE ballast complete sets for $300.

Bulbs shld be guaranteed for up to one year. If you look close on the metal socket, there is already a code for the month and year for retailers to scribe date of purchase onto bulb.
