You've basically hit the nail on the head.
Well as you can see there will always be people who "believe" they can determine what being a good christian means to someone else because someone else told them what a good christian is. That's what starts wars.

There is a reason Jews circumcised male babies three days after birth. I can't recall it now, but it has to do with proper clotting, healing and infection prevention.
To keep sand out of vaginas. It's metaphorically the purpose of the bible and the advice and rules are presented were fitting for that time (not saying good, but in many cases it served its purpose). Heck, the approach is still fitting for most people nowadays. People have a real hard time with the facts if those facts don't align with what they so far thought the be true. Many people simply refuse to reason as is so evident in these forums, so they need to be bullshitted to be decent people instead and given incentives (not going to hell...).

I like the principals, I don't believe the bullshit.
Yes I get, you take from it what you can use without feeling the need to swallow all the bullshit to meet someone else's definition of being a good christian. Something others here could learn from... It's obviously absurd for an atheist to determine what makes a real christian... what are the guidelines to make such a definition... exactly, the bible on which christ had no editorial influence unless you believe the bible.

I do however entirely agree with the following, which was my point, there are more up to date and simply better references nowadays than the bible:
You can actually live a righteous life without the bible.

I much rather have a christian turned christian atheist (again only semantically an oxymoron) than an atheist that discusses like a religious bible thumper...

For shits and giggles, like what?

What are the errors or misinformation?
let us start from the first book. God made Adam and Eve who were suppose to be the first two people. They had two sons at the time named Cain and Abel. Cain murdered his brother. When faced with his deed by god, he was told he would be a furgitive and a vagabond upon the land. Cain reply was "Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me". God then told him this would not be so, for he would mark Cain and who ever hurts him will be punishment 7 times worst.

Ok now here is the question . If Adam and Eve were the first people and had only two sons at the time according to the bible. Who the fuck was going to kill Cain. Who are these people he is speaking of in (Genesis:4:13-14)

So, are you saying that a Christian does not have to believe in god? They're given a choice?

The circumcision of newborn Jewish boys belongs to the essence of Judaism, it marks the entry into the Jewish community and symbolizes the ties between God and Abraham and between God and the Jews.

hell he was 600 years old when he built the ark:roll:..and if god is all knowing did he not know that people were going to be so crazy and bad that he would have to drown them. Why make them if he knew he was going to kill them. Sounds sick to me

You're so obviously missing the point again...

You'd have to make a valid point first in order for me to miss it.

In order to be a chrisitian, you have to a) believe in god, and b) believe that JC is the son of god.

The very definition of an atheist makes it impossible for one to be a christian. What you are trying (not very well) to say is that an atheist can buy in to some of the teachings of christianity. I'm an atheist, and I believe that it is not a good idea to kill another man, but that does not make me a christian.

Lol @ christian atheist. You can't be an atheist and a christian. To be a christian you must believe in christ. In fact that is what makes you a christian by the very definition of the word; it is THE core belief that separates christians from non-christians. Without that core belief you are not a christian.

What you mean is that you are an atheist that embraces the good qualities of christianity without the belief in JC or god. I simply call that being a good person. You can be a good person, and be nice, and have many of the virtues that christians strive for, all without god or the bible. In fact if you are able to go through and cherry pick the good stuff and virtues you believe in, while eschewing the hatred, racism, bigotry, and sexism then I have to question why you choose to identify as a good christian at all. You could still be just as good of a person without associating yourself with the bible at all. That's what I would do since the bible is a vile pile of excrement.

According to a study, atheists are less trustworthy than rapists to the "average American. "
I think this is a couple of years old, but shocking.

http://atheism.about.com/od/atheistbigotryprejudice/a/Atheists-Trusted-Less-Than-Rapists.htm

This attitude has to change.

Most of you probably think of me as an ardent Christian, and indeed I am a Christian, however I am an atheist or philosophical Christian.

Why do you think atheists are so looked down upon in this country?
cuz they smarter then every1 else...

Wrong, to be a christian you have to believe in the teachings of Christ. I do.

However, there is no evidence that he was ever even a person. And if he existed and did half the shit attributed to him, there should be.

The gospels are obviously bullshit. The first time jesus fed many with a few fish and a loaf or two of bread his disciples were justifiably confused as to how he would do it.

Later in the book Jesus feeds a bunch of people again with very few fish and bread.

This time his disciples should have no doubt as they had seen this before. But again they all questioned how jesus was going to do this.

The morals and life lessons are solid. The stories and claims made are bogus.

To be a christian all one has to do is emulate Christ. One does not have to believe he is god.

Really dude... you talk to me about validity of points? Petroleum-based... With your level of ignorance you're simply not capable of determining the validity of a point as you've shown over and over like a just like a bible thumper.

What you are trying (not very well) to say is that an atheist can buy in to some of the teachings of christianity.
 A-fucking-mazing... again, you are so obviously missing the point that I can either just laugh and ridicule your stupidity or waste my time trying to explain to you what a. I already explained clearly, b. you're just going to argue with more stupidity and act even more like a typical bible thumper. I will go for the latter :wall: :wall::lol:

Fine, I will point out one more time how stupid you are acting.

You have a valid point there.
THAT, dumbass, is intellectual honesty in practice in a real life example and you still don't get it... :wall: I "disagree" with religion, with most things bible thumpers claim and represent and do, but there, Dan had a valid point, which I was intellectual honest enough to acknowledge. You however are blinded by your personal beliefs and discuss in these forums VERY much like bible thumpers do... pot... cattle...

Any atheist with more than half a brain should encourage the use of the term "atheist christian" instead of ridiculing it and using the bible's bullshit contents (think ffs...) as an argument for why that semantically is an oxymoron. If "atheist christians" are typically people who came from a christian background, had 'believing' parents yet decided it's mostly bullshit and science trumps religion... Guess what those atheist christians' kids will evolve in to...
