Hi, by extracting 99.9% pure isopropyl from 100g of buds, after 48 hours of ventilation in a 12 degree environment the following emerged:


the buds were dried/cured for 3 months NOT decarboxylated!

the question is the following: if I wanted to obtain a compound (powder/oil/resin) to be inserted into capsules to ingest, how can I proceed with the decarcoxylation at this point?

it looks like boiling off alcohol decarbs

Yea I would read that link really helpful and easy to learn. You want some grain or iso to make back to liquid then cook out alcohol and decarbs it. But need a decent thermometer candy one digital if can afford.

No you want to add enough to turn back to a liquid then cook till bubbles stop and get tiny and get it to 240* Fahrenheit but there's a little more to it. Easier to do the quick wash like you did then let it filter out inside freezer. Other people can help better if can't read that link. You need small metal bowl and something you can put bowl on to be able to cook it. Others do in oven with mason jar but with alcohol little dangerous.

so can I get it to 240* Fahrenheit without adding isopropyl? for about 30 minutes?
Just add back enough ISO back to turn back to liquid and cook at 240 till all big bubbles evaporated. Really need to watch that video to see what I mean to help understand better. If you do it in oven with mason jar have to watch it as cooking. If you tried to just cook that won't be right probably just harden it ruin it.

Now in this situation should I add isopropyl alcohol to avoid burning the extract?
Why are you decarbing? If for edibles i would use coconut oil or something.
Tincture, everclear. Try to be safe, and at a minimum, use an electric burner outside
The iso served its purpose in the initial extraction

if not decarboxylated I think it won't have any effect... that's why I would do it
I am saying to heat it in oil to decarb. Then fill your capsules.
Returning it to iso is not going to help you.
I have made very very strong oil decarbing hash in coconut oil

Last time i made oil my math was off by a factor of 10, and my single dose was unpleasant. Dont want to lead you astray

Lot of confusion going on in this thread.

As long as there's ISO in the oil it won't get hotter than the boiling point of the ISO which around 84C. I don't think that white stuff is just water but some and the waxes and water soluble gunk from the plant material. You get a lot more of that crap when you grind your pot before extracting. If it's just sugar trim then wash as is and with buds you can keep them in the freezer with the ISO then pour in the cold ISO then use something to mash them around good for just a minute. Rather than pouring directly thru a coffee filer, (one is enough), have another ice cold jar big enough to get all the wash and pour thru a fine mesh strainer so it goes fast then you can add some more cold ISO, swirl for 10 sec and dump thru the strainer. Most strainers have pretty big mesh but if you have access to stores that sell all sorts of classy kitchen and housewares you should be able to find one with much finer mesh. One that's about 3" wide is big enough. When I'm doing a big wash I'll have a larger mesh strainer above the finer one so the top one catches the bulk of plant parts and the lower one gets a lot of the finer stuff. I have lab stands and clamps to hold everything in place but you might want to find a helper.

Once you've strained it all it can stay at room temp. Your ISO mix should look all cloudy as there will be a lot of 'fines' in there so just let it sit for a day or more until it all settles to the bottom then have another jar with your coffee filter ready to do a final filtering. If there's too much ISO to pour it in one smooth pour then pour it directly into another jar first with no filter. This is like decanting home brewed wine or beer where you do everything smoothly and make sure you are standing so once you start the pour you can do it right to the finish stopping just as you see the sludge about to go in. Straining with a funnel into empty liquor bottles that are cold too makes the decanting easier than using mason jars. Really easy to do a slow steady pour getting 99% of your ISO mix with zero sludge into the next bottle or jar.

Mason jars, glass bowls made for cooking and lab glassware are made of borosilicate glass, trade name PYREX. Thrift stores are great places to find small glass bowls for small batches. Jam jars and drinking glasses are not tough enough to take sudden changes in temp and can easily crack losing you your goody.

This is 130g of RSO made with ISO using the QWISO method after heating to 250F in the small oven until the decarb bubbles were barely coming up any more. I used 550g of sugar trim and popcorn bud plus 103g of dry sift keif. The numbers on the side of the jar are it's weight before putting the oil still with some ISO in it so it poured easier. That way I could weigh it after and subtract that weight to know how much oil I had.

This stuff was not winterized or cleaned up doing a separation with naphtha. Just a QWISO wash and tho you could smoke it and get stoned off your ass it's gonna taste nasty.

That's a 1gal pickle jar with all the pot and keif in the juice jug. Imperial gallon too so 20% larger than a US gallon.

That's the basic rundown on how I make my RSO. I put all the ISO mix into a still to cook off and reclaim most of the ISO but when exposed to air and heat ISO can form ketones that can cause an explosion after a few uses so usually it's best to just evaporate it off but I can fractionally distill it over salt brine to clean it up for safe reuse. That doesn't happen with ethanol aka ethyl alcohol aka EverClear so it's fine to reuse that without any special treatment. If you like to make oil fairly often using everclear then an investment into a 4L countertop still with a temp control will pay for itself if you are using it often. Everclear here in Alberta at any liquor vendor is about $44 for a 750ml bottle. I quit drinking so don't keep it around the house to tempt me.

Tip: Set your oven to 150 and let it heat up for a half hour or so then put your pot on a cookie sheet, I like parchment paper under the pot, turn off the oven and slide the sheet in to dry out the last of the moisture. Then put it in something airtight and put it in the freezer to await your ISO wash. Could be 8 - 10% moisture in what seems like very dry pot that crumbles when you squish it.

Tip2: If all you can get is 70% ISO get some pickling salt as it has no iodine added and put a bunch of that in the ISO, mix it well for a while then let it sit. A layer of brine will form above the salt holding all the water then you can use a big syringe or turkey baster to take the top layer off and have close to 99% ISO.
