Question for BC MMAR Growers & Dispensaries

Hi,

New to the forum, very familiar with the site and industry.

I frequent the local Vancouver dispensaries and every time I visit, I ask if any strains have been tested, what are the THC/CBD levels and it's always returned with a blank face. I know the source of their product is top secret, black market, MMAR grows out the back door, etc.

Anyways, I have an idea that i've been mulling over and hoping to get some feedback from the community.

Would you see the value in a website/marketplace that would allow growers to anonymously post their product and connect with dispensaries? Another layer the site would be facilitating testing. I know there are a few local Vancouver companies that test for CBD/THC/CBN and heavy metals and could offer strain testing cards for point of sale.

I see the need for this because of a couple observations i've had:

1. Dispensaries always have the same strains and may find the value in sourcing different strains and products
2. Nothing is tested, no one has any idea the levels and contaminants in the products being purchased.

Anyways, just token and talkin' - would love to hear your feedback.

You might try dropping by the 'Canadian Patients' forum on here. I believe there are a few MMAR growers there.

I've had my bud and hash tested from the green cross society as well as from hornby over at hedron.

I agree that it is hard to find dispensaries who have actual hard results on paper...some places like eedn CLaIM their product has been tested but when asked to produce results they just give you a roundabout answer.

ALOT and I say ALOT of products I have purchased through dispensaries have turned out to have bugs mould chemical residue etc in fact I would say 80% of what I have bought down there didn't burn properly!

I can see some value in this.

Exactly. I know there are some companies in California that offer testing services. Dispensary gets a results card that lists test results along with picture of sampled bud so you can do a visual comparison at point of sale. It also has a QR code that links to testing site with details so you can view on your phone.

I've spoken to growers and dispensaries, all seem keen on the idea at first. But then the reality kicks in and they know they could be out cash and they all come to the unsaid consensus that ignorance is bliss.

Which brings me back to the marketplace idea where growers can get their product tested before sale to dispensaries. And dispensaries can choose to purchase from growers with accountability not someone maxing yield at all costs.

yes we need a cannabis oriented lab up here asap. maybe it's time for the werc shop to open a franchise in BC.

I can get testing done if needed. There are labs offering the service but it's hush because of health Canada restrictions.

I've spoken to dispensaries and they are not interested.
1. It costs money - between $70-$100 for a sample
2. If they buy without testing first they have a moral dilemma to deal with if the results are negative

I think the grower should be paying this cost or a split between both party's.

I remember reading about a home testing device/ system coming on the market awhile back. That would be a game changer. I'd like to know cbd/thc levels in mine, but for personal use, it's not worth paying to know.

ya it's called a mydx. my buddy has one. it seems accurate but needs more lab verification. I would not rely on it yet.

here's a test we did on some nice outdoor organic timewarp. we did 2 tests with 2 random buds and they were quite similar to each other. the unit costs US$700 I believe and is supposed to have improved capabilities as we go along. buddy actually sent in an indoor bud to mblabs and tested the same bud with the mydx and they were pretty close too.

how much for potency + contamination tests? I've heard Chimera complain about hedron analytical not being up to spec.

Damn, I guess I shoulda pulled the trigger on the MyDx in the kickstarter phase. They were like 200-300$ for early investors

I guess my real question is for the growers:

Would you post your products on a marketplace?
  • Upload pictures, describe your product, display test results (results must be verified using partner lab)
  • Communication between buy and seller is via email no transactions happen online
  • Essentially create a store for your products
  • Sell clones, dried and extracts

Sell a stand up product first and foremost.
Pictures are a must.
Communication won't be needed if the first point is covered.
A store product? clones?
Dried and extracts are a different business the way I see things.

I wouldn't trust most growers, even with a test they could be bait and switching all day long.

MB Labs in Sydney are legit and work with MMAR papers. Slow turn around at times though.

Basic Potency - $90
HC Safety - $85 - most bio contam not including aflotoxins
Metals - - $70
Pesticides - $300
Potency plus - $120
Terps - $120
Solvents - $70

Pricey but they are using good equipment.

Why are they listed as separate tests? Properly calibrated, all the criteria that you listed can be done in a "single" liquid chromatography test.
