Some deficiency during flowering is normal, but too much shouldn't be tolerated. Red petioles and stems are a normal, genetic characteristic for many varieties, plus it can also be a co-symptom of N, K, and Mg-deficiencies, so red stems are not a foolproof sign of P-deficiency. Too much P can lead to iron deficiency.
Purpling: accumulation of anthocyanin pigments; causes an overall dark green color with a purple, red, or blue tint, and is the common sign of phosphate deficiency. Some plant species and varieties respond to phosphate deficiency by yellowing instead of purpling. Purpling is natural to some healthy ornamentals.

i recently had this question about my seedling and i'm going to have to say that one out of 3 of my girls had a purple stem. Upon transplanting the red stem had the largest root mass. I currently believe, from my observations, that the red stem (in seedlings) is a sign that the plant does in fact have a nutrient deff. but only up top. A large amount of nutrients and energy is being diverted to a healthy root-ball. My plants turned out to be extremely healthy. I would even go as far to suggest that a red stem in a week old plant is ready for 100ppm of N nutes. DONT over do it. Especially if you have soil that has been pre-mixed with nutes.

amnesia haze ... everything all great till 1 2 week flower top turned a lil yellow like tiger stripes green yellow and purple redish fan leaf stems i am trying to kick up some N but and slowly lil amounts of canna 13 14 .. im spectating have no clue whats happening just going to wait it out and try raising the N .. added some B52 a lil bit but no luck waiting to see what happens girls are like 3 ft tall

I have the same thing and it looks like this. Im in Flowering, 2 weeks now, it is THC Bomb my first grow, can anyone tell me how i'm going and if these stems are anything to think about, or shall i just carry on like normal?

Iv never seen such careless answers.. at some point your plants were subject to temperatures under 68°.. i personally have purposely done this for a few cold nights to my grow just to make them purple.. the new growth will continue to be purple and the leaves by the nodes will become purple too.. this isnt a issue at all as long as you dont shock them in the cold.

Or it could be a phosphorus deficiency depending on strain, If the strain grows green it should stay green unless the strain is a purple strain,or if temps go under 60. U can get a purple stem due to a phosphorus deficiency its all about growing healthy,watching your ph,and trying to keep it simple like keeping your grow room in perfect conditions . Keep it Green!!! Or at least try to!!

Whatever colour stems you want its not a problem. If you want green germinate in plain water, if you want purple throw in 600ppm of fertilizer.

Maybe some should try this before talking rubbish!

I heard epsom salt can add magnesium to the plant. Add one tbsp of epsom salt to a gallon of water and foliar feed the purple stems.
I'm not sure if your supposed to water the plant with the mag in it but from what I've read it says only foliar feed it.

Firstly this is an old thread so learn to read dates and secondly the abiotic stress cause of anthocyanin due to magnesium is well documented in many papers!

Well sooooorrryyy I didn't look at the date. I was just trying to help but then I have assess like you that come in and just post replies that are just rude, like you. Nice avatar.

Yer the avatar is a dead rabbit and the whole purple subject is just too stressfull to go into. Needless to say purple is caused by stress although heat stress should reduce anthocyanin formation in controlled experiments.

Well in your previous post you were being an ass and now your giving me a nice reply and not acting like an ass. Why didn't you just act this way in your first reply?
Thanks about the heat stress thing but that don't make much sense at all. I think you might just be messing around with me on that one but I believe you about stress can cause it.

The only thing I did was bend down my main stem to train it so it's not too tall. So it's had no stress, don't know what you think.
