Jack Herer was born June 18, 1939. A former Goldwater Republican, Herer became a political activist and the author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes, a book which is now a classic polemic in the effort to decriminalize marijuana. Herer was perhaps the world's most famous activist for the decriminalization of marijuana and the utilization of hemp.
Herer argued for the decriminalization and utilization of marijuana because it has been shown to be a renewable source of fuel, food, and medicine, and can be grown in virtually any part of the world. Herer was one of the first to show that the U.S. government deliberately hides the proof of marijuana's efficacy and utility. Herer devoted his life in support of cannabis, hemp and marijuana.
Herer suffered a stroke and heart attack in 2000 at another Oregon event. Although he had since recovered, the 70-year-old activist spoke with a stutter and walked with a limp. Just minutes before his speech, Herer looked fit and said, "I'm getting better and better and better. I'm healthier than I've been..."
Herer is a true American hero who spoke truth to power. He stood up for freedom while many others failed to do so.

Iv been lookin for updates..I haven't found anything for a few days..I sent his wife an email telling her everybody from RIU is pulling for him and if she had time to shoot us an update doubt it will happen but I still sent her some love..........

Jack Herer, also known as The Emperor of Hemp, suffered a stroke shortly after speaking at Hempstalk in Portland, Oregon on 12 Sep 09.
Paul Stanford wrote on Facebook that he collapsed of a heart attack three minutes after giving the speech in the video on the right. Mr. Herer previously suffered a heart attack in 2000, also in Oregon, which left him partially paralyzed and from which he had continued to recover.
Various sources report it took twenty to twenty-five minutes for an ambulance to arrive and that he was without oxygen for that period of time.
There were at least three reports that Mr. Herer died 18 Sep 09, but these have been found to be false. The reports were issued by CelebStoner, The Drug Policy Alliance (StopTheDrugWar.com), and Examiner.com (John English, Michael Stone). These articles have now disappeared from the internet.
On 20 Sep 09 it was reported Jack began coming out of the coma the previous day and that his eyes had momentarily opened several times and he was incessantly yawning. Hopefully, he will be able to tell us himself that reports of his death were greatly exaggerated.

he looked in pain while he was speaking... and made sure he finished.. now that's a real champion and well worthy of the title emperor of hemp (dirty word hemp). a stupid word we have adopted to refine peoples views on cannabis its really cannabis with relatively no thc but good fibre pourposes.. there was no such thing as reall hemp untill relatively not that long ago and before that it was ALL CANNABIS.i view hemp as waste of time and they should ban it and grow real cannabis. if the governments would just wisen up people could grow cannabis farms for maximum profit and make it a more applicable venue for farmers as they could get the fibre and send the medacine off the places that need it. with strains of cannabis tht are useless for medacine out there uncontrolled it can play with the fields being grown for medacine with all that loose pollen if ya catch ma drift. ultimately possibly down grading the genpools of farmers in surrounding areas.

jack herer has it right. cannabis should be legal and it should stay the peoples plant the government had its chance and fucked up now its ours.

i feel the same as you but by the same token whos to say the person in that state shares our views. i go through pain every day and i can deal with it as long as i have my medacine and pain killers.. i just get depressed and shit at times, hardly sleep and am constantly in chronic pain lol.

fuck ive gone off topic the point being one of almost every living things main priority in life is self preservation. what this means is that in circumstances people will cling to their morbit life gladly over dying or do some ridiculous things to survive its as simple as that. what we view as a bad choice they view as their only choice.

it may only be a few weeks longer to live but to them thats a few more weeks to live. in this time they can see there family, perhaps get there affairs in order and shit like that (take my aunty for example .. may she rest in peace.. i really loved her). i still remember seing her for the last time sad but she seemed happy. she was doped up but still coherant enough to make her last day with us a relatively good one i think.

besides i doubt they would keep someone whose asleep on drugs kinda a waste dont ya think.jacks a fighter hes got shit to do i think hed want to pull through.
