Please use proper English

I can hardly stand reading some of the posts on here. Phrases such a "dat" and "yur" and "ima" etc, are so irritating to try to read and decipher. You know proper English so why not use it. Don't let me think that the $120,000 of public funds it took to babysit your ass for 18 years was wasted.

It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are stupid than to open your mouth and let them know for sure.

RIU does have several rules concerning conduct but I have yet to see any guidelines concerning the use of proper English or any other language requirements, thus I'll just say.... jo de puta!

I'm in college and i find it just as annoying so I think it's more of a 'being bothered by mental incompetence' thing than an 'age' thing

Let's just say this. Many of the people on this forum and people in general will be more willing to help and communicate with people that use proper English.

I like to help out in the Newb section.
If I see someone either lacks the skills or is being lazy using "text" shorthand I just move on to the next thread.

I don't even bother trying to decipher that crap.

I'm rather tolerant of those that don't speak/read/write English as a first language because it's not an easy language to master, even for us born and raise speaking it.

I'm less forgiving for those that have bastardized our language just to make it faster or easier to text or post.

I use a PC/keyboard/mouse to surf, the younger generation prefers a cell phone or iPad, with soft keys, hence the shortcuts that often lack proper English.

translation(for those in their 80's and 30's): That is very true, my friend. Everyone needs to speak proper English in forum. We take this very seriously. I feel sorry for those without a firm grasp on the English language.
