Platinum LED

What company would you suggest to do better on with the epi diodes?
If you really want to do an epi-whatever fixture, I'd do Vipar(eBay) or MarsHydro/TopLED. A 180w actual light will cost about $150-$200 compared to $370 for the Platinum rebrand.

Or, spend a little more and get 150w of efficient LED for $420 from Area51. You get a lifetime warranty, the ability to upgrade (at cost) as LED technology evolves.

Platinum, Lush, Kind, HydroGrowLED, Blackdog and GrowBlu (to some extent Blackstar) are ripoffs. A lot of money for epi-whatever diodes.

Ok...So I was able to cancel one of the platinums before it even shipped and I might even be able to cancel the second one...So now I need to figure out what I am going to buy. My box is 4x4 and since I dont think I can afford to buy enough high quality LEDs to light up the whole box I am going to keep a 400w hps running during flower. So now I need recommendations. Apache seems to be out because they are just too expensive. I´m thiniking I could spend a little more than on the Platinums and get 2 Area 51s 150w. Think that would be enough together with the hps in the 4x4?

Buy 2 RW150 now and then buy another 300 watts from Jeff when he releases the new Bridgelux Vero29 .u need 650 to 750 watts to properly cover 4 x 4.

Ok. I was ony able to cancel one. The one I cancelled would have apparently been one of the "new" ones...Apparaently now it´s 12 band instead of eleven... I´m thiking I´ll just keep the other one, shipping it back plus the 15% restock fee would mean I would only get less than 250bucks back which seems to be about as much as it´s really worth. On Area51s website they say that they are coming out with new diodes soon, now seems like kind of a bad time to buy from them no?

And what really makes the area 51s lights better? I just watched a video by Kind LED it seems that par, spectrum amd lumens are all good...

Quality of parts and efficiency of those parts, those KIND LEDs use those lowest quality parts and charge top dollar for them, much better options out there, the LEDs that are in KIND LEDs and their like do not produce as much lumens per watt as the LEDs in the A51 LEDs as well so you have a more powerful light that uses less wattage in the area 51 lights.

Ok, so obviously these other brands like KIND and Platinum aren´t as efficient as area 51s, but if you have enough watts in your tent wouldn´t the plants do just as well?

Watts are a measure of power consumption, they have nothing to do with light output or the quality of light. They are simply a unit of comparison because incandescent lights have been the most widely used for the last century.

100W incandescent bulb = 5W goes to light, 95W to heat, 1,500 lumens

100W COB LED = 40W to light, 60W to heat, 10,000 lumens

I think so. If you want to run 50-60w/sq ft of MarsHydro or Vipar(eBay) you can get good results. But, it would be cheaper (per watt) to buy CMH. You'll get the same heat, better light, and it will be upgradeable as the bulb burns out.

Cheap epi-whatever LED fixtures don't make a lot of sense. They're not a lot of money to lose either.

What is a total loser are the re-branded epi-whatever lights (like Kind, Lush, Platinum, HydroGrowLED). You pay almost efficient-LED prices for MarsHydro performance. The only value you get is (presumably) better support.

With efficient LED you need about 35-40w/sq ft. You don't have to buy as much light, nor spend as much on cooling it (if you're in a hot climate).

I agree. It's probably better just to keep the one platinum units. They make great veg lights! Buy a 200 watt optic in the vero29 4k for full cycle or 3k for straight flower. The next best bet would be a51 rw . The Rw units are better than 90% the units out there.

These so called 12 bands are using too many blues n greens n yellows for a flower spectrum. They are just not the best for flowering. A51 uses 5500 and 620reds and they work great and there on sale too. U can't go wrong. Esp if u buy 800 worth and get free shipping. Good luck man. A rw150 will grow a 4 ft 4oz plant no problem!!!

So you guys think the vero29 is better than the area 51?
It's the new and a51 will be using vero29 on there updated units. RW use cree xpe. A rw150 is 425 total now. Buy one try one.what's 425? I bought 2 of em in January and they paid for themselves 3 times over. In3 months!

So isnt the Optics Vero 29 better than the rw 150 if the new Area 51s are going to be using Vero 29 on their new models?

No.right this moment.. I would buy optic lighting 200 watt cree cxa3070 in the 3000K 80CRI. The best value at the moment are the a51 Rw . On sale
I'd say that both CXA3070 and V29 Optics both are slightly more efficient that A51. But the price and performance is IMO very similar and you won't go wrong with either of them.
