So I've got the two seedlings in the box with the lights on for 24/0 for the next week. I'm attempting to revert back to veg with the ladies. They have been in darkness for 48hrs and now on 24/0. Now that I know they're female, I'm going to veg for a while and hopefully full up my screen.

Been a busy couple days at work and haven't had a chance to look after my setup, so should be interesting to see what happens.

My neighbour saw me tending to the garden last night and I was a little worried until this morning when he asked me if he could try some when it's done and that if I need any, I must just give him a shout, so no sweat there! lol

I topped the ladies this morning and hope to see them back in veg to fill my screen!

Good grow this, reminds me of my efforts 15 years ago to make equipment, learning as I went along--you deserve success due to your doggedness and enthusiasm. Pity you don't have decent seeds, you say the seeds were '' bashers '' never heard of that but presuming its the SA version of '' Bagseed '' anyway good luck mate, I know what its like to grow by your own wits

Hi Bilbo, loved your roles in the Lord of the rings! thanks for the comment! I'm really going to make the best of what I've got. Some of the weed you get here from dodgy hobos isn't actually bad, just wasn't cured and dried nicely, so I'm hoping the genetics are there, so with the effort something great can come from it, hopefully!

There's nothing more rewarding than seeing success come from something you've worked hard on, and at least I think I'm working hard on this? Haha

I'll post some pics later, I just keep forgetting to take when I'm home (being a dummy or baked).

Yeh thats my only worry here, you work hard and struggle to overcome lots of issues, get your act together and grow some weed---but its not really very good weed ( hey what do I know it might be the best) but unless you get some decent seeds from somewhere your weed will only be as good as its genetics. Ive been to SA once, got a bro in law lives in Pretoria and in 2002 I went over and scored some '' Durban poison ' outdoor weed from a guy in a kind of homeless campjust, it wasn't that good, although ive smoked Durban poison from an outdoor dutch grow in an Amsterdam coffeeshop and it was pretty good. Is there any reason you cant just order seeds from attitude or any of the other seed companies ? maybe some SA security shit, I don't know--but if you can get some good basic tough as nails strains like Northern Lights or AK47 both of which are tough plants and tolerant of lower than usual light and tolerant of temperature highs and lows then that's the way to go, once you have tuned in your growing method you can try some other more fussy strains--good luck

The weed I buy is apparently "swazi gold" but you never know what you're getting here :/ I have a friend who is very involved in the lawsuit regarding legalization of marijuana here in SA and he recently order about 1000 seeds of different strains from Amsterdam. I hope they come soon and arrive safely as he said I could have a few to try out. Now it's just a waiting game haha. I'm just using these seeds to test my system that I have and see how well it goes and where to improve. Thanks for the comments though, really keeps me motivated!

Just as a reference, this is the weed that the seeds came from, any comments on how it looks?

Smokes pretty good, almost a citrus skunk smell to it.

And a bag like the one pictured below costs around 3-4$ US. So it isn't that expensive. But I don't think it's ever been grown indoors before.

Hard to say really, but it looks as good as any other weed, nice normal looking bud---could be great---'' do you feel lucky punk '' lol

I make my on luck Bilbo, or so I think I do haha who the hell knows!?lol
It's tasty, but I feel that there could be so much more to it. And growing it myself will save me some cash in the long run I guess. Also there's something so therapeutic about nurturing this amazing plant into something that can be enjoyed so much.

It's the idea behind it more than the execution of it.

Update,

So yesterday I planted the seedling in the dwc system. I changed the rez with fresh nutes and water.
Will take pics and post shortly.
The light is bleaching the plants a bit, so I raised the light up abit, hopefully that will do the trick!

So here is a macro of my solo cup plant that I did an experiment on, planted it in late summer and now it's in late flower as out winter is here, but still fairly long days.

Okay so I was just checking in my plants today as I noticed some colour change yesterday.

Now I see that my plants new growth in almost white yellow and I'm not sure why...

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

*UPDATE*

So this weekend I upgraded the grow box a little bit and now I'm hoping the plants are going to like it haha.

I added reflective material to all walls and adjusted the light slightly.

This coming weekend I am looking at installing the screen for my ScrOG! Whoo!!

So the last update was about a week ago and they're looking busier so we are growing nicely with these girls!

Yeah, skip the 400w and go right to a 600w HID system. Search Ebay for affordable kits, they contain everything you need but the cooling fan.

A 600 will crush your needs and be there for you when the inevitable "need" to expand will hit you....

I don't really have cash for a 600, so I will probably get a 250w and use both my lights plus cfl supplementary light with my next grow.

So I'm not sure if this kind of idea has been done before (probably has)and I was too lazy to research it, but this is my idea of what I'm going to do with my girls in my closet (sounds pretty bad when I say it like that!! :/ )

So here's an update.
I flipped to 12/12 today.
Hoping it will give some nice stretch.

Last night I forgot to turn the lights on so the girls had a long sleep (24hours) not sure if this will effect them much, but I'm back on 12/12 from this morning. Will see how it turns out.

Thanks man, I was a little stressed out yesterday! Had my best mates birthday and got a little out of hand as you can see by the pic of me doing a guitar solo at a karaoke bar at like 3 in the morning ... but it was awesome.
Didn't expect to spend the whole day out and hammered so I forgot to do the lights! Thanks for the reply, a lot less stressed now.
