What up RIU!! Been trolling the site now for about 4 months while I did my best to work out the kinks in my first grow. Started with a cabinet I built out, but it was in my garage and could not deal with the heat levels and did not have room to move it in-doors. So now I am into a nice little closet grow and thought I would start a journal for any and all help/advice (much appreciated in advance!!). Here is the Skinny:

Closet - 5ft x 2ft
4ft - T5HO - 6 bulb, 56w/bulb - 3 6500k/3 3000k - 30k Lumens (just installed)
Soil - Perlite/Miracle Grow/Manure Compost
TUDE seeds (3 Trans Siberian and 1 bag seed (from what I am told is Hawian something or another)
2 Fans
Temps between 78-85 (18/6 now and I run the air at different temps throughout the day causing the temps in the closet to flux a little more then I would like
Humidity: 45-50 RH

No nutes yet as I was hoping to get that from any responses to my journal. I really don't want to spend a ton on a whole bunch of different nutes. I am really looking for something stable and easy as I get my feet off the ground on my first run through. Then hopefully build and expand after first harvest. I figure to have enough nutes to get me through veg and then will prolly need some help once I switch to 12/12 for flower (lets hope I get that far first!!)

I am on day 6 right now and will post some pics of my progress and room. I started with CFL's for the first 5 days as I was waiting on the T5's to come in, so my progress might not be so great 6 days in. The only good that I have noticed (through using clear solo cups) is a lot of good root growth and production. I currently have my bag seed and one of the Trans up and reaching for the light and I just started germing another two Trans yesterday, hoping they will pop in a few more days.

Here is the outside (door) pic:

Well I will do my best to keep posting (but not daily as I have seen complants about that being annoying). Planning on LSTing and keeping the plants about 20 inches or so. Any praise, criticism, or whatever you want to say is more then welcome!! Thanks for looking and hope to make a few new friends on here!!

Just want too add that I'm running a passive intake, as you can see by the two fans installed at the top of the outside of the door blowing out and there is about a two inch gap at the bottom of the door sucking fresh air in...thanks again for looking!!!

Thanks for the reply Sticky!!! It's called "MG Continuous Release" it also states up to three months of continuous release plant food. I was not planning on adding any nutrients until I start to flower, which I'm assuming won't be until 5+ more weeks. I've heard good and bad about Mg, kinda on a tight budget and will try and switch to fox farm, which I hear is the shizz but expensive. I did mix the Mg with perlite and a cow manure compost, so hope that was not terrible either. Anyways, thanks for the advice and checking in!!

dont give any food at all man you will kill you plant i promis i used the same stuff on my first grow make shure you also flush the pots every 2 weeks cause that stuff will build up allot of salts in your soil man i would use fox farms ocean forest and if you cant get that then go with mirical grow organic trust me on this is you can transplant them now it will save you allot of troubble down the road man

Much appreciate the advice...IM just using that mix for the seedlings, but was going to keep the same mix when I transplanted.., they are only in solo cups right now...I will definitely find the organic Mg or maybe the fox farm if it's not too expensive when I transplant; which I will do one or the other thus week, would hate to kill them thus early on. Thanks again for the help!!

no problem man anytime i wouldnt have told you thoughs things if i didnt have to learn the hard way :( im so glad that your going to take my advice man cause that stuff ruined my crops a few times. weed doesnt need to much food you would be supprised plus that mg releases to much nitrogen during flowering witch make for airy buds :) + rep for takeing advice well

And lastly; Trans 2 and Trans 3 (respectively) on Day 1. Trans 3 is the one I was thinking looks a little on the weak side, with the shell still stuck to her head!!

Quick update with pics and questions:

Transplanted 2 final resting place. No FFOF, store2far, wanted $25 a bag...will do 4 next grow. So I used a basic top soil with no added nutrients (ie. continous release) and mixed it roughly 30% Top Soil 70% Perlite. I got some home made nutes from a local hydro grower who uses a "nutrient-less" soil and adds these throughout all stages of his veggie grows (tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, etc...). I don't plan on feeding them any of these nutes untill at least another 2 weeks (unless told otherwise). Pics below:

Hawaiian Day 9_7.25.jpgHawaiian Bag Seed, Day 9; The Cotyledon leaves are starting to turn yellow, is that normal?

7.25.2012 (2).jpg
7.25.2012.jpg So just a few quick pics of inside the closet.

So I hear these beginning few weeks are the toughest to get through. I feel like they should be growing much faster, considering the light I am using. My temps are a little bit on the high side. The lights are on starting at 830pm and run till 230pm. between 830pm and 830am the temps stay around 79. Then during the day they go up to about 84. Also my Humidity levels are on the low side at about 43Rh. I have a Humidifier in the closet but it does not seem to be doing much. My only conclusion on that note is that my passive intake is bringing in dry air and sucking out all the moisture that the humidifier is generating. Questions are (in a nut-shell): Help with temps(are they ok, don't want to turn the AC and lower = more $$$), Humidity(how to get higher), and is my growth in line?

As for the growth, when I transplanted they all had pretty extensive roots, so I'm thinking(and from what I read here on RIU), they build a solid root system and then the growth takes off at approx. 2weeks+(for soil grows); please correct me if I'm wrong. Trying to stay patient, all and any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Looking good! Not a pro at all but think you may need bigger pots cus autos roots shoot like crazy and I don't think you flip to 12/12 on them. Not to sure though. I'm sub'd!

Thanks for subbing in Kush!! The pots are 1.5 gallons, trying to keep em small and low since t5's don't have the penetrating power like the hid's. Also space is limited and I know I'm posing it with 4 plants. But you did hit it on the head saying the rooting goes like crazy. The amount of root growth I saw when transplanting was insane!! Stay on for the ride, it should be a good one!!!!!

Ladies and gents...quick question: On my Hawaiian bag seed, it looks like the edges of the top leaves are a little brown (pic below). Prolly over-concerned, but wouldn't mind some re-assurance. I switched off the MG (see previous posts for what I switched too) and thinking it might be from Nute Burn, ie calcium build up) hoping it will just go away. Also, Day 10 and limited growth, should I be concerned?? again, always appreciate the responses !!

One more post...On my third Trans; she does not look like she is gonna make it. I was trying to remove the covering(not the seed casing) so she would open up and I took part of one of the Cotyledon leaves off (pic below). PLease prey for her!!

Also, here are some pics of the other 2 Trans Siberian's that I have working (they are looking great)
