I did switch the soil, but didn't get the FFOF. Just went to Lowes and got some Top Soil (no added or continous release nutes) and made a mix of 70% perlite and 30% Top Soil. The FFOF was too expensive and too far away. I got a local Hydro grower that sells hydro plants (veggies, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc...) and he uses a nutrient free soil and adds nutes, his own special blend that he uses all the way through his grows. I was going to give those a go for my veg in about two weeks. thoughts?

Also, I have 5 gal pots, but don't think I have the room in my closet. Was trying to keep it small and short, LST them. I might transplant in a couple weeks to the bigger pots though. Thoose pots are 1.5 gal's now, thats not too bad though, right??

Also, do you think growth is a little slow? from what I've read and what ppl have said, Auto's tend to root quickly before any real top growth...just curious...so hard to stay patient. Thanks for checking in though, happy for the input and advice!!

quick coment on the nutes I got from the hydro guy; he stated to add about a teaspoon to every gallon, so I figure to use half that recommendation or less and feeding every other watering. He also said they were about a 2-1-1 ratio (NPK). Will prolly start feeding in 2 weeks. Would like to see third or fouth set of leaves before I add the nutes. Thoughts?

Ok, one more post. I started this Mex Bag seed about a month ago. MG and Perlite. Added the nutes from the Hydro guy way too early and the leaves started curling and the turning yellow. I knew I made a huge mistake, but figured I would use her as a test dummy plant for LSTing and Topping. That thing was garbage, but somehow stayed alive. I even took it away from any llights for about a week, though it on my patio where the sun never comes in, and it still grew another 3 inches. I topped it about three days ago. Just wanted to post a pic of the growth since topping. I know not to top AUTO's, but just wanted to see if I could get any feedback on how it looks. Pic Below:

One more post...On my third Trans; she does not look like she is gonna make it. I was trying to remove the covering(not the seed casing) so she would open up and I took part of one of the Cotyledon leaves off (pic below). PLease prey for her!!

Also, here are some pics of the other 2 Trans Siberian's that I have working (they are looking great)

Thanks again for the looking!! :)
as long as she has some green left she should be ok. maybe very stunted, but if you give her TLC (pretty much just make sure she dont get over/under watered etc) then she will be worth keeping! i had the most fucked up seedling, because the shell got left on, then when it got taken off the cotelydons were white, and these tiny two pin-prick green dots in the middle started growing out into leaves. amazing. she died in the end tho coz i let her little pot dry out in the window and she went al crispy like seaweed in the sun

Aiight peeps...for anyone still following, I just wanted to give an update on my little sick girl. I think just the though of giving her more TLC was enough:

View attachment 2271244 Day 4 (but really day two since I took the seed shell off her) and her first set of leaves are coming up. I think she will definately make a full recovery!!

She would like to give a special shout out to 'Lowblower' for the support and belief that she would make it, when all the rest were doubting her !!:-P

As for the others, no real updates to report, all looking strong and healthy!! will try not to post any this weekend so they can show some real progress... Have a great weekend RIU CREW!!

I just wanted to post a pic of the soil combination I used when I transplanted recently (to get out of the MG crap!!):

View attachment 2272224

I also got some responses from my post in the 'problems' section in regards to that yellowing spotted plant I posted earlier. One of the responses was about the lights being too close, I had them at about 8". I just raised them to about 20" now. Any comments on whether that sounds correct would be great. thanks again to all who are lookin/watching!!

Just another update here on all my little girls:

I would like to start with the one that I thought was going to die:

Trans 3 Day 6 7.29.jpg Trans Siberian #3 at Day 6

Trans 2 Day 6 7.29.jpg Trans Siberian #2 at Day 6

Trans 1 Day 8 7.29.jpg Trans Siberian #1 at Day 8

Hawaiian Day 13.jpg Hawaiian Bag Seed at Day 13 (man she is growing so slow and still having problems with her yellowing and spotting. Did a complete flush yesterday with PH'd water and will start giving her nutes prolly tomorrow)

Mex Bag Seed 7.26.jpg 7.29.jpg So my Mex bag seed tester plant has shown the most improvement of all that I have working right now. That figures since it is the shytiest one (seed-wise) and the one I have paid the least attention too. These two pics are three days apart, and just an exposion of top growth. the soil is a mix of MG, Perlite, and Cow Manure compost; which from what I have heard is the worst combination but somehow seems to be doing the best out of all of them, unbelieveable!! argggggg

Thanks for looking and commenting!!

UPDATE:

Lets start with the Hawaiian Bag Seed. Here is a pic from 2 days ago followed by a pic from today. I backed the lights off from 4" to 20" and she is seeing some signs or recovery as the newest set of leaves have grown and are of a healthy green in color (not with burned edges or spots on the leaves)

I would like to believe this is good news...

Update (con't)

Here are some pics of the trans (1,2,3 respectively)(Day 10, 8, 8 respectively)

View attachment 2276320Trans 2 Day 8.jpgTrans 3 Day 8.jpg

Growth is so slow and I just know it should be faster from what I have read throughout RIU in other journals. The first Trans is even starting show signs of the Hawaiian. any and all help would be welcome and appreciated....I feel like scrapping this and starting all over...:wall:

Hey man, I'm a novice myself but I have heard that anything called "topsoil" should be avoided. That would be my best guess as to why your seedlings aren't taking off quickly. That also looks like the one major difference between my grow and yours. How much is the FFOF where you live? For $20 I got a bag I could barely even carry.

Thanks for checking in Avocado!! I messed this whole grow up right from the start by mixing MG and Cow Manure compost to start the seedlings. They must have immediately been over-nuted, only able to pop out and then became stunted and showing signs of nute burn. It has to be the medium. I have enough light, my temps are good in the low 80's, humidity in the 40's, passive intake...it just can't be the enviornment, it has to be the soil. I am going to my hydro store this weekend and will be buying rockwoll cubes, FFOF, and perlite, I don't care the costs, and then I am going to start this all over again. My Auto's have been going for over 11 days now and don't show nearly the growth yours are at 7 days. I think I saw 3-4 sets of true leaves, awesome really, and only under some CFL's. My T5's are putting over 30k in lumens...argggg, very frustrating and I just can't give up.

hey man dont need to give up! maybe just flush the soil with warm water to take out the MG nutes?

Personally, i would go with whatever soil has teh least nutes in it, unless its a tried and tested soil like fox farm.

Im using biobizz light mix, its got hardly anything in which is perfect for the seedlings. Then ive got a load of different ferts to put in myself. Plus garden lime for cal/mag and stable pH

Did you kill them all off in the end??? AAAh man i man really looking forward to the progress of the trans siberian, i wanna get those beasn next. Make sure you start your auto grow journal in the auto flower section ;) there will be alot more people interested and with more relevant advice for you. Ive got a grow just started in there, its called 'Auto LST 500w cfl....' im doing 3 ultra lemon haze and an afghan kush ryder.

i hope you got ur girls sorted in the end man!

OFFICIAL UPDATE!!!

What up RIU!! I know its been a while since I posted, but to be honest I was super close to giving up. I had over 15 days of stunted growth and couldn't seem to figure a way out. On a brighter note, and a few trips to my local hydroponics store, the grow has made a complete turn-a-round!!

I want to start by saying top soil is crap, do not use it. Also, perlite from miracle grow has slow realeased nutes that are no good either. lastly, I over watered and caused an infection at the root of every plant I had started which was, what I believe, the sole reason I was not getting any growth. So lets get to the nitty here and go over all the changes I made and how they affected my grow.

These are my new ingredients:

FFOF, Root Enhancer, Grow Big, Purified Water (not distilled), PH tester, Solo cups, And Hydrogen Peroxide

Each plant at the root right below the soil line looked pinched. My hydroponic store told me it was a bacterial infection and to spray some Hydrogen peroxide at the root (right below the soil). He also told me I transplanted too early. They should be kept in smaller containers until they become almost root-bound. the soil was not able to dry being in bigger containers causing that bacterial infection and overwatering. He also gave me a root enhancer (free sample) that would help my stunted plants recover as well (and boy did they). I got some Fox Farms Grow Big (another free sample) and there feeding schedule. I am only using half the recommended amount and every other watering, which has only been once. lastly, it was recommended to use Purified water as it has the lowest PPM. Now here are the results:

Hawaiian Day 20 8.5.jpg Here is that Hawaiian Bag seed, which was the worst of them all, on the day I transplanted (which was 20 days old from seed)

Hawaiian Day 25.jpg here it is only 5 days later. I transplanted into FFOF and only used the purified water and root enhancer. Amazing recovery!!
