NooB Advice

I was doing some reading on moonshine recipes ( my watermelons and grapes will be ready soon) and a wonderful thought came to light. I mean I got really excited!! I wonder ( if I had the luxury of a spare plant ) if I could chopp her up, after she's done flowering and curing, boil EVERY thing even the roots in sugar or some fruit like peaches or watermelon, let it all ferment............

What my question is, .... do you think the THC would travel through the still in the alcohol, creating a stoney drunk????

If so I am getting extreemly STOKED.....All this waiting Ive been doing,,, I'd hate to experiment with my 1st and only plant.... I really want to know if it would work that way though, ANYONE ever heard of this?
i think another term for what your trying to do is create a "tincture" i think it is a little different than your approach, but maybe it can give you some ideas. it would be sweet to take a drink and get stoned.

Agreed, that sounds like a tincture. I haven't tried to do it myself yet, but from the little I've read it's a bit more complicated then what your contemplating.

Just a quick question I can't find an answer to - Do the buds get harder, or more compact the longer they cure? Because I've got decent bud fresh from the dry line, but they aren't compact. I'd appreciate the info, everyone - my ladies can't have worked so hard for fluff... (lighting used HPS 400 watt)

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this, I have been fairly busy

I wanted to make a post that would very simply get Noob's to calm down and stop fretting/fussing over things, by making some simple common sense statements (that I know outdoor growers would get) and get a plant to grow and finish with fewer problems as growing MJ is an ongoing learning experience.

You decided that I was somehow throwing stupid facts I pulled from "somewhere" out that needed to be rebuked???

Here is what I think,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Simply Google "PH of Rain" and you will see that it is now normal for it to be 5.6 unless in high industrial/polution areas where it has been reported down in the 2's (acid rain) It is not the same everywhere and is affected by CO2 level in the atmosphere

They are not "constant" there are clouds, there are days of no sun due to weather, hell there are eclipses. light cycles are different in different locations around the earth. Outdoors there is shade from all different kinds of obstacles

I should have used the word "specific" here it is well known that mother nature adds nutes in the form of natural decay. Things die and are leeched back into the soil, it's how mother nature works, But she does not add specific nutes at specific times. She does not instruct a bat to pop on a plant to make its buds bigger

Actually mollasses is much more, and while over a period of time these things are added naturally, my statement remains true, she does not add mollasses

My point here was more about "light leaks causing hermies" and I used the moon as an example (I could have used street lights) several post here say to get rid of ALL light leaks but outdoors YOU CAN'T so all plants grown outdoors should be hermies we should just accept that? my point is/was not to fret over it

and, I have been smoking MJ for over 40 years, I know for a fact that there are males in all of the many pounds of swag (mexican) I have consummed, so smoking male leafs is not a big NooB reach for me. Read Marijuana Chemistry by Micheal Starks 2nd edition and you will see that there are strains where the males actually have more THC than females.

I am currently reading Gardening-Principals of Horticulture 4th edition, I have over 45 books on gardening and growing MJ in my collection (I also have over 20 movies on growing MJ)

and lastly, calling it a weed is in no way meant to be disrespectful, I love this plant in so many ways and on so many levels. I fully understand its classification, that set aside for a momment, we call it weed because it acts like a weed and grows like a weed

You should consider setting "emotions" aside before degrading someones post that was intended to help others??? my 2 cents

Flame away folks :bigjoint:
Despite the angry guy's views, I find your advice to be top notch. I have the same thoughts about light outdoors - it never is constant - in a sense of the same light hitting the same plant the same way everyday. Good show man, keep it coming! I'm on grow #1 and for experiment sake, I have one lady blooming under a HPS, and just started one under LED/warm fluorescants. Trial and error - just want to clear up what I've read about lighting, and act accordingly! My papaya is three weeks from finishing (hps grow), and already looks beautiful. My LED grow has just begun, but has grown 2 inches in the week the LED has been on it...exciting times!!

not always as how they are dried will affect the final outcome, slightly

that being said sounds like you may a) have grown a sativa dominant plant or b) harvested to early (or both)?

PS welcome to the thread

Hey thanks man, I'm off to read.........what's that green liqure from germany...... absnyth... IDK ........ oooo what if you put "shrooms in it too....an organic "roll"????

I know that the boiling point for alcohol is lower than water, I guess the question would be if the THC would grabb the alcohol as it released or
sit in the bottom with the water and buds, would be interesting to dry othem out and smoke after sitting in fermentation for a week....LOL IF I stop posting I DIED HAHAHA

That is what I am reading.........IDK if ne 1 here has ne experience with shine, but my main goal is to remove ethanol.... I think lol, my understanding is the methenal is produced and you have to "sthill it" to seperate..... IDK back to reading,..... I called my Dad to see if he'd seen nething like that.( him being a true oldschool hippy..).. said" " man.....uh...no I haven't heard of ne 1 doing that........uh......don't waist you prod over it... but .... if it works.... I WANT SOME " hahahah

If a plant hermies is it always the fault of the grower. Out of the 100's of plants I have grown I have only seen 2 hemie and both seeds were suspect to begin with "immature". I knew something wasn't right very early in growth. I may have had more that were culled before they had the chance to flower.

No, it can be very normal for a plant to hermie I have a ditty explaining hermies in my Riddleme's Nuggets journal (sig link)

Wow im gonna have to try that greendragonsoda, My question is it gets you fucked up with only a half of gram?

That seems a little low no?

ok so part of my question is answerd, THC is said to disolve in alcohol better then water.....I guess it would make more sence to make the shine first THEN do this with the bud as to not waist ne thing........

FYI I have read this tech. to increase potency in your bud too....... IDK where I saw it but the thing said if you got bud that wasn't as good as you'd like..... you could take all the stems and leaves and little popcorn, boil and reduce in alcohol, then dip your good buds in the "glue" and cure all over again..... never tried it tho......

with my green shine I am going to make now this sumer is going to be VERY ENJOYABLE

You are boiling it in almost 100% alcohol though....... and THC is "activated" by heat ( why eating a bud out of a bag won't really get you stoned) It would almost make sence......and even if it don't I think they are showing on a small scale to "try it out" so you don't waist alot if you dont like it.... hell put a G in to make sure .... it's only $30, when he gets up , im goin to the d boy's house and comming straight home to try this

Well riddle, the weight is in for plant #1. It came out to 3.25 oz, though it's still just a little damp (I like to start curing while it's still a little sticky). Took down plant #2 today and I'm guesstimating that it's going to yield more like 4 oz, maybe a bit more. My sister also made the first batch of cannbutter, and it looks like that came out fantastic. Instead of cooking it in a pot on the stove she transfered it over to her crock pot once everything was nicely mixed, and slow cooked it for close to 2 days. She ended up getting 5 full sticks of butter out of the material from the one plant, so now we need to bake something and see how well the thc was absorbed. :)

Hi Ed, they have some great recipes on this site, was looking thru them n wiping the drool lol canna-caramel omg yum!! :weed: I need to look for diabetic recipes tho, no sugar

Riddle, I've got a Q for you, is there any reason you didnt use 'warm white' T9's as well as the 'daylight' one. I really, really, really like this idea, each plant getting its own halo/haloes lol and they're cheap as chips, result!! Not sure how they connect to the mains yet (I'm on 240v) will ask those questions in the lighting wholesaler. Been trying to find someone else that has grown using these lights and so far I haven't found anything.

Pulled out the ancient seeds I had today, figured they may as well start working while I'm reading and learning, so glad you posted UB's bit on germinating, chucked them into a glass of water, which I wouldn't have known to do and only 1 sank , ah well, I'll have a go on that one anyway, if it doesnt germ, no loss because I already learnt something. Doing a bit of research on Durban Poison, from my understanding, it's nearly all sativa, and they can get really big , I DON'T want trees, just a couple of bushes, with any luck no more than 3ft high, if you could kindly point me in the right direction as to what/who/where I should be reading next as far as DP goes, damn I love learning about this plant lol. Even better when someone's done all the hard work for you, kinda like standing on the shoulders of giants lol.

Will let you know if I get a sprout

Em

PS I did ask but wasn't really a question more just looking for opinion on the water curing technique, any takers?

Yeah the only reason to use a red one would be to reverse the ratio for veg, ie; a 65 watt 6500K cfl with a 2700K T9

the whole purpose of doing it that way was to mix the spectrum in a way the plant could benefit from it

and a lot of folks consider that T9 my trademark LOL it's not because I will most likely never use it again (in this way)

And water curing IMO would be a way to save a bad crop, nothing I would do to a good crop

Emerald, if you don't want to go tree's then a Sativa may not be the best choice for you. You can keep sativas small, but it requires you to start flowering them with very little veg time, and usually requires some training as well.

Got a few things for ya,

let's start with how many of you have signedup at growers underground?

I'm not into BigMike and I would never use his Advanced nutes and yes growersunderground is one of those internet marketing sites that trades "secrets" for your email address,,,,,but the info is real and presented in a very good way

Someone posted the link to the PH Manifesto, I then read it found it to be full of good info and posted the link in one of my blog posts to share, then I went to the growersunderground site to see what other info might be there and gave em my email, I started getting those auto emails every other day and each one was interesting good info. So I would say doing this is a good thing

the last little ditty was about the abuse of high P bloom nutes (explaining of course why AN is different) but it goes along with UB's post on the same subject and I also posted an article that explains why High P is bad for container gardening,,so I found it interesting as they actually spent a lot of money to test MJ leaf samples to determne nute usage and what they found was very interesting indeed

This led me on a search to locate nutes that had a 2-1-3 NPK ratio for bloom, I realized that my choice of dynagro products was going to work out just fine as,

Foilage Pro NPK = 9-3-6 and
ProtK NPK = 0-0-3

though it is not a true 2-1-3 it will introduce a lot less P and will be my next supplement to Jack's,,,,,which brings me to the good stuff I am sharing

I went to the Jack's Classic site to look at product NPK values and was disappointed but I remembered that folks looking to use Jack's in hydro had to go to thier pro website so I went there and discovered this product PDF

http://www.jacksprofessional.com/products.pdf

When you look at it you will see that they have some pretty cool formulas for all kinds of different senarios including nute mixes for use in peat based mediums, I was like WOO HOO found what I'm looking for,,,but it gets better

They have a lab that will take soil and water samples and tailor make (design) a nute recipe that works best for your garden based on these test, for example (and I must admit I did not know this till I read the articles on this site, link comming) the amount of Cal you need to use is directly affected by the amount of sodium in your water

So advise everyone read these articles, here is the link

http://www.jrpeterslab.com/library.html

hint 3 ways to avoid common problems is a must read!!

after reading all of this I decided to go find the water report for my city tap water and saw that it was pretty good water (low ppm's) but that they use Chloromine to treat it, decided to look into that and found that what I was doing with the brita filter does remove it from the water but also found this DIY recipe to get rid of it

I use Vitamin C tablets to treat my tap water for chlorine & chloramine. 1 500mg vitamin c tablet will treat 20 gallons of water for chloramine at a safe estimate of 2-3ppm, so I'm basically treating 5000 gallons for 5-6 dollars.

My method is to fill up a 20oz bottle half way, so about 10oz of water, then add 3-4 vitamin c tablets. After the tablets break down, I remove the extra stuff in the tablets with a coffee filter. Then I keep the bottle in the fridge and use 1 tsp (5ml) per gallon to treat for the chloramine. Scale up based on your needs.

My plants have been very healthy using this water, so I recommend it as a plant-safe and super-inexpensive treatment for chlorine and chloramine.

Oh yeah, avoid the cheaper tablets with rose hips.. You want just "Ascorbic Acid" as the source of vitamin c.

I've based my calculations on a commercial dechlorination product called Vita-D-Chlor, which is Ascorbic Acid. http://www.vita-d-chlor.com/
You guys know I pretty much never stop my research as one discovery leads to another and I will continue to share the jems I find

Happy Growing

Are you saying you made the butter out of the remains of the plant? I'd like that...I'm needing to stop SMOKING period. I read somewhere that the tar content of 1 joint is = to like 10 ciggs, I smoke bout 4-5 joints a day and close to 2 packs of full flavor ciggs. I can't run 10 feet w/out getting winded. I want to come up with a way to make some hard candy ( like "worthers original" or pepperment ) But with some SUPER thc kick. ++++ NO ONE would ever know I am getting toasted.....I am constantly being called out for smelling like "smoke" ( proll cause I am always smoking)

What do you think, should I start weaning the nutes off and running water through to get ready for her haircut? I want alllll the chems out of her when chopped, and I think I have read Riddle mention that this should be done a week or 2 prior to get a "true" "wash out" ( haa careful with my words) I know I am getting close... I can feel it. You think I could start "washing" out the soil? I want to take her as close to 200% or more 150% nute strenth before I do it,,,,,,she hasn't really responded to 100% other than a lil tip burn..:peace::blsmoke:
