Nirvana Papaya aka Who's Yo Daddy? Who's Yo Mama?

Papaya is a great strain for fibromyalgia / pain / insomnia / couch-lock. I had this for several seasons indoors and was always happy with the quality of the final results. It was not a heavy yielder, YMMV.

I was recently looking at the write up on the Nirvana site and am now scratching my head... The lineage listed on there says "Jack Herer x Skunk#1", when I know that it was originally written up as "Citral #13 x Ice #2" and is even backed up by searching Leafly, kindgreenbuds, and other sites. I know that the lineage description when I ran it was the Citral/Ice and when I see now that the description of the lineage has no commonalities with it.

https://www.leafly.com/indica/papaya
http://www.kindgreenbuds.com/marijuana-strains/papaya/
https://www.allbud.com/marijuana-strains/hybrid/papaya

So I'm both bummed and interested in which of the following is true:
  1. The seeds being sold are now what they claim to be (JHxSk1) and the smoke will be different (similar yes, but as a patient I wonder if the cannabinoids and terpene differences alters the medical effect?)
  2. Another possibility is that this is the "OG" Citral Ice#13 x x Ice #2 seeds but being given a "new lineage" / marketing "name recognition" with the JH x Sk1?
If it's some jiggery-pokery fake shenanigans that's deceitful and not cool.

But, at the same time, if Nirvana has tried to "beef up" the Papaya genetics, wouldn't that also effect the number of possible phenotypes thrown? A 4-plant lineage of C#13 x I #2 x JH x Sk#1 will create a lot more genetic diversity any potential seed may express through phenotypes, it would seem than a 2-plant lineage.

Or, there could be some other explanation, but it seems somewhat shady otherwise.

Anyone have anything on this?

I seen that one (and have used that site before to try to learn any and all I can about how each one grows out) but thought that by throwing a third variable parentage in would make this thread a little too "Maury Povich You ARE NOT the Father" drama lol.

Maybe it's me? I have spent too many sleepless nights in pain and with insomnia from FMS, reading threads, watching videos, and actually putting it all into practice. I try to get that one "silver bullet" strain that will help me help myself. I've gotten to the point where I have a feeling that there is really nothing to the naming of strains, and there are so many out there that I could spend the rest of my life on the lookout.

Never tried any other Nirvana strains except to smoke. I've got no brand allegiance, except I've found that a few companies strains I've gotten as clones at the dispensary are fire. And then you never know what it is if you didn't pop the seed the cut is from.

here's what may have happened
first, Nirvana gets its seeds from multiple breeders and those breeders may change
i ran nirvana's cali-o just before they dropped it, it was a 'reworked' version of the previous cali-o
basically, these were 2 different strains(word sucks but much used) and different lineages
what you've read may well be true, different lines from different breeders

I saw that on leafly too when researching the strain. Makes you wonder what's really going on over at Nirvana. I decided to order some fem Papaya as well as some Aurora Indica to run at some point. I might message Nirvana and ask for an explanation. On a previous order I got some bunk Pure Power Plant seeds, but they did give me a $15 voucher to make up for it.

I ran a pack of the pure power plant back in 08-09 and in typical nirvana fashion only one female was worth a damn and she was a keeper. Wonderful anti-depressant high with a wonderful hard to explain flavor and rock hard buds. I'd hook people up with an 1/8 and they ask if it was a half 1/8 so I had to show them the scale. I've thought of trying them again but I'd have to run a lot of packs to find another and that's a lot of shitty plants to run just to find one.
