New LED Setup

I'm planning to upgrade my setup in about 6 weeks or so. I have a few ideas but i was just wondering what other knowledgable people thought. Not saying money is a major factor but at the same time i'm not trying to just shell out money for the hell of it either.

Tent will be DR90 (3x3). Have a few LED options in mind. Just looking for the best 'all around LED option. I'll start out with the most expensive first. Apache Tech AT200. At that price only one light would be in my price range(the high end). Would it cover a 3x3 without having to add any supplemental? (Before anyone says it i know 2 lights don't compare to one but a comparison isn't what i'm after) Then there's 2xRW150 + 2xRW75(present lighting). Either that configuration or add 4xRW75 for a total of 6 75's. I thought about those DIY Cree cob 3070 that i'm seeing. 2x3000k at either 70 or 90w, maybe get 2x5000k and put one in between both 3000k having both my RW75's in the center. But if i went that route i'd need the parts that need the least amount of tools because i don't have a solder, never used one and have no where to use it. Idk too much about what special tools are needed to build a DIY but i know all i have is a few BASIC tools. Ha. So needing to by certain tools would add to the overall cost. Which is ok to an extent. If i knew where to get all the LED components i need to DIMyself and what tools i need i would have priced it already but i don't. If all else fails i'll just get 2 more 75's and call it a day.

Kinda feel like the DIY option would be the best overall. But idk how much everything would cost so i can't say. All helpful knowledgeable info, along with people that actually have experience with these lights is appreciated. If you need more info from me just lemme know Thanks! :peace:

Seems like you did not see my last grow using a BML SPYDR 600

It provides a full 3 x 3 footprint, passive cooling, select your own colors/spectrums

Based on recent 3000K COB grows, f I were doing it over, I would combine ~ 90% 3000K + 10% 5000K for a complete veg/flower light

Click on Multispectrum link in my sig

The AT200 will cover a 3×3 just fine. I know scotch has a thread or two on here where he did it. I love my apaches. You cant go wrong with area51 either. The cree cobs are killing it too but like you said investing in the tools can add to the end cost.

You can order individual BML light bars in any length you want. Pricey, tho. The A51 RWs are a good choice, as you can use them for veg or flower by flipping a switch.

Yeah those cob grows are looking nice. DIY projects are fun. And you usually save money that way. Probably a good idea to head over to a DIY thread and get someone to chime in on that. But i'll look for that Scotch thread and see what he's working with. The new AT200 uses less than 200w and covers a 3x3?! That's crazy. I'd need two A51 RW150 to do that for around the same price and more wattage. Not taking anything away from them as it's still an option. Guess the added benefit would be the fact that 2 of those would offer a little better coverage.

Lost me at 'pricey'. ha. Haven't seen where they're proven lights anyway. Maybe one day they will be.

Yeah, check out the diy threads if it sounds fun to you. I haven't started in on the diy cob scene yet. Just know that the guys here know their stuff and are posting great results. If I do get into it, i'll probably wait until next year when some newer cobs are out. Two RW150s will definitely have better coverage than one AT200 and will have excellent results. I would ideally use two AT200's in a 3x3 but that's just my preference. My last round i did an AT120, AT200, and Area 51 SGS-160 in a 3x3 and it was borderline overkill but had stellar results.

Then you haven't been to my thread

Added ~ 2 weeks into 12/12 now completed and weighed

Next month I will start seedlings under it and go to finish

Each ~50W 300K Cree 3070 will cost around $80-100 depending on your sourcing of parts and driver selection. They aren't that hard to make once you understand everything but understanding everything takes a while. I'll be making a step by step tutorial in the next month or so on my brand new 4X setup in a high end stealth setup. Should be very easy to follow.

I honestly think that these DIY setups are the way to go. They wouldn't be very hard if someone laid down a comprehensive tutorial. They're not that expensive, can be upgraded as new lights come out, super quiet, low heat, and produce frostier buds on shorter plants. As the tech grows, the prices and options are going to get even better and with these cob setups you can upgrade!

2xAT200's would be BEASTY in a 3x3. But that would be close to $2K. You could build a bomb COB set up for that price too. Do you have a grow journal for that 3 light grow you did? Right now i'm leaning toward the DIY setup. I think it's dope to look at something you built yourself and see the results and just be like "Yeah, I did that!".

For the diy route rapidled.com
Soldering irons are like dirt, cheap . but they have solderless kits too.
They also sell the onyx (not to be confused with the reef onyx at rapidled.com) Onyxgrow.com
You could diy the veg onyx I believe since rapid sells everything you need, the onyx uses 10 watt Cree xml2 . Rapid sells these in cool white but so far I haven't seen them in warm white. they'll even sell you an onyx housing if you like, heatsink and all.

You can get an AT600 for that price. Three times the power of an AT200 and made for a 4x4. Might not fit into a 3x3, tho. Not sure how big it is.

When you came up with that price that's including the LED plus the parts and driver for each unit right? That's not bad at all. How many of those cobs would be equal to 4xRW75's. Yeah i'm with you on them not being hard if someone just laid down a general tutorial on how to build a setup with all the info you'd need. I'm in no rush to get more lights so i'll be hanging around to see what you d with your tutorial. Looking forward to it.

Oh no i never had intentions on getting 2xAT200's. IF i went that route only one would be in my budget. And that's on the high end of my budget. Using 2 in that space was Puffs preference.

Yeah, cost is a big deciding factor in what to do. I've acquired all my lights gradually over time so it never seemed like such a large investment. Here's the link to that journal I did.

Thought about going that route. Haven't seen anyone else try a DIY from them. Do you know of anyone on here that went with them for a DIY build?

Oh yeah makes sense. I bought both my RW75's at separate times and thought about just getting two more later for my new setup as opposed to have just waited and gotten all 4 at the same time so i know what you mean. Gonna go check out your thread now.

Diy was my first intention when I contacted rapidled .
I had some questions and told them just what I wanted to build the light for and that I wanted, warm whites and cool whites.
Rapid in turn suggested their new Onyx that wasn't even on their website yet.
I decided the onyx was what I wanted since it had 10 watt emitters and Cree xml2 at that.
Great customer/product support.
I can't wait to buy from them again but at the moment have no choice according to the ol bank account.
