Need help with DIY venting

ok i think im going to install a small pc or pc TYPE fan like small small one if i can find on in any junk i have around my house
but if i add ONLY 1 filter and ONLY 1 fan on just the exhuast hole with the intake hole just well just a hole and no filter and no fan will it be smell free?:S sounds dumb becuz it would be open with no filter wouldnt this spread the smell? im going to add ne but do i need one now or can i just add 2 about 2"-4" diamiater holes in the back do i need a exhuast and intake fan for the plant to survive or can i just add one once it starts to smell?

you only need the exhaust fan and the filter on the exhaust. the reason you dont need a filter on the intake is that no air is going to be leaving the box through that hole, the air will only be sucked into the box through the hole because the exhaust fan is pushing more air out of the box faster then it can come in, so its going to be only sucking fresh air into the box through the intake hole and no air will escape through it

but thats with out a intake fan? and ur sure of this?

becuz i cant have any smell i guess noise wont be a BIG problem cuz im going to try and say i want more privicy so i can get a lock on my door

and if i do add a fan could i only have it on during the light cycle hours of when ever im awake/ at home and jsut shut it off and seal the intake empty hole so no air will escape? would that work becuz i dont want to have it on when im not home so i can make sure that the noise wont be aa problem and my parents dont hear it when im not home and there in my room could i just have it on at flexible hours?

you never really need an intake fan no matter what size grow. an exhaust fan creates negitive pressure in the room. intake will only let air in. try to drink through a straw while your blowing bubbles. the air pressure cant move in 2 directions at once.

there basically silent and if you turn it off ull probaby get smell leaks

its fine if you do that for vegging though since it wont smell until its flowering

i honestly think your grow box is going to be a complete failure for your specifications man. you cant cover up smell without fans blowing into a filter, if you cant cover up the sound of fans then one way or the other, your grows getting found. theres different ways of blocking sounds, or even leave something on in your room that makes a noise a little louder then the fans are to draw attention away from it. i always have my roof fan on which gives a louder noise in the very center of my room as opposed to hte faint buzz of a fan going in my closet, leavin xboxs or computers on works also

i know i shoudlnt grow in my parents house but im not getting my own place for 3 years and im only growing 1-3 plants with clfs and odar control im making it un-noticable to my parents let alone a cop will find it lol my family dont even let a cop in our house (my dad smokes chron, i smoke chron, my 2 borter smoke chron shit the only one that doesn't is my mom lol my dad just doesn't like me doing it so i do it a friends on the weekend or whenever i have extra time just not at my house unless there gone for a hour or more but i wont get caught especially by a cop cuz i got odor control, micro grow, low electricity bill and everything and also im using this for the whole stage germinating->vegging->flowering->curing->harvesting so i need the best way to add a venting system either without a FAN or with ONLY one fan for a exhaust (obviously have to cover up the intake) with either a cloth, or a homemade filter i need ideas about venting please anyone all i need to know is DO u need a fan sorry f someone already stated it im fucked right now and i just want to get this idea out of my head i cant stop thinking about it can i use no fans? can i use one fan and a normal hole with a filter on bot hand one with no fan? like how u said just leave the hole open but im flowering in it so if i flower in it couldn't i just add a filter on the hole without a fan as a intake and have one fan on the top near the lights with a filter too and the pressure from the exhaust fan would suck in the air threw the filter in the intake hole wheretheres no fan right? also u need the intake weaker then the outtake? there it is would this work with 2 filters and just one fan on the exhaust hole and none on the intake hole?

thanks for that idea but just to ask could i just add one fan to the exhaust part and a filter ad then another filter on the intake hole but no fan on the intake hole? becuz wouldnt the exhuast fan becuz of the pressure of the air pull air threw the intake fan well exiting it threw the exhuast part? and if they both have carbon filters on them when the fans off (when im asleep or not home) could the smell still leak out? no matter what with whatever outcome i get im still adding sryer sheets too and would it work if i only turned on the fans during the time that im home(not interferring with the light scudual that ill ovbisly have on a timer) i usailly get home at 2:45pm or 3:00pm i could leave it on til 10 the earliest and probly 11-1130pm on adverage would this be enough air flow? im going to adjust the light scudual so its on most of the time im home ovbisly not the whole time but the closest i can get to start so i can be home durring the HOTTER periods that the light bulbs would reach (CFLs dont get hot but just for my,family,pets health) to make sure theres not a fire id rather be home jsut too feel safer

you only need one fan for exhaust and a hole for intake
you ONLY need a carbon filter on the exhaust fan for no smell to get out, putting one on the intake is useless and harmful actually if you have no intake fan because then your blocking air flow into the box. here maybe this will help

this is your box, the fan is mimicing a vaccum basically, it will suck air in through your intake holes. have you ever seen a vaccum blow air while your trying to use it before? i havent. i hope this helps

yes but when the fans are off and the plant(s) are in the flowering stage then the smell will leak out the intake hole if it has no filter thats what i mean but would i be able to only run the fans for the hours of 3pm-10pm (minimum)? 7hours a day is that ok? ahd instead of a computer fan(i dont have any) and instead of wiring it all and shit i thought of buying this

this one looks like it takes batterys (so does the other one) but i was going to connect it to a DC adaptor i have (somewhere in my room)(hopefully)

but i dont no how loud both would be but if i only turn it on when im at home then it should be FINE would 3pm-10pm minimum be a good enough time line for the fan?

and what do u guys think would be the best/cheap soil at the site www.canadiantire.CA ? i heard fox farms good but id only be able to bring it to my house in my backpack so i have a way to get it into my room without my parents saying what do u need soil for :S whats the best starting soil for a beginner to use? with no ph problems or any of that bullshit

i wanted to use just plain old dirt frm my backyard lol becuz this is more for expeirence and to see if my grow room will even SPROUT the seeds which i doubt but could u use just plain old dirt? or do i need to buy some? cuz i doubt i can fit a bag of soil into my backpack lol

fans need to be on 24/7 man during flowering, during veg its not a big deal if there only on for a few hours a day as long as theres a way for air to get in, the desk fan looks alot like my exhaust fan but if im listening for the fan i can hear it faintly throughout my entire room. but i might also be confusing the quiet sound for my pc or roof fan, but within a few feet of my closet i can hear the fan, so i dont think that one will be good for you. find a 12v computer fan and hook it up to a charger using around 6v and im telling you its almost silent.. not too strong but strong enough to push air through the filter i would think.. also a carbon filter might muffle some of the sound too, mines not hooked up yet so i couldnt tell you

yeah u can use backyard dirt, to sprout my seeds i used dirt i dug from under some grass until i got some money to buy soil lol, i cant tell u a good one to use bcuz im on my first grow as well and i have no experiences with diff soil.. im not sure what brand it is even but my friend recommended it to me when we were at home depot gettin some supplies for our grows, as for bringing the soil in.. why dont you leave it in the trunk of your car or something (please tell me you got a car) and bring it in when the parents are MIA

sometimes plain old dirt is actually better to use to sprout the seeds since it will have very little amounts of nutes to shock your sprouts also

ok since this is my first grow and i probly will fuck up some how im going to use back yard soil(ill dig it up soon winters comming) next for the fan i CANT have it on 24/7 becuz my parents would hear it at night they got good ears so i can only have it on for a little bit of time(it wouldnt be like the plant would die right?) but i can have them on for a good amount of time but deff. not night time the air could still get in a little bit with no fan on but i made a grow journal so im going to be adding a rough outline on paint or something tonight so if u suscribe to that and help me/correct me then i can give u rep++ but im going to make a new tread about if my outline will work or not so post on either on if u can thanks
