My seedling has pistils!?

Hi all I'm unsure what to think of this as I've only seen a couple cases of this in google... but it appears my two day old sprout has pistils coming out already. Also I have it on a 24/0 light cycle right now so it can't be the lighting.. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Anyone know what I should expect? I'll definitely be growing this out just to see where it goes. I've taken a picture though it is fairly hard to see as I can't get my camera to focus. If you check out this thread https://www.rollitup.org/t/pistils-from-seedling.449751/ you can see what is happening with my plant.

it's not pistils man, that's a mutant seed/sprout, the first set of leaves will be wrinkley, and hopefully the second set will have normal looking leaves

oh and you are wasting a lil energy too, i'd go with a 16 hr day, or 18 if you want them to grow faster.
my vege room is at 16 hrs

GMM, look close. It does have two white pistils. I have seen this many many times on young plants but never a seedling, especially that small! Maybe its a sign of a hermi, but do NOT quote me on that. Wait and see if those turn green, if they do they arent pistils. If they stay white then start turning redish, orangish, or brownish later as the plant matures they are pistils. What to make of it im not sure.

Contrary to some beliefs plants DO need a few hours of darkness to complete the cycle. Plants photosynthesize in the light but its darkness they actually use the energy and carbohydrates produced. 18hrs of light is standard but anything over 14 will keep you in veg. Anything under 14 will produce flowers. 12/12 is standard flowering and durring the dark hours it must be completely dark, no illumination at all. With autos it matters not. I run 16hrs with 125w cfl's for seedlings and clones, I run 18hrs with 1000w MH for weeks 1-3 of veg, then I switch to HPS at 12/12hrs for bud production. I do all my topping and (recovery after barerooting) under the CFL's before I switch to MH to start actual veg. My plants are usually around 18" tall once flowering cycles begin. Everything is timed and climate controlled but I do not use gas. Benefit/cost ratio us not good enough for me to consider gas. Plus keeping gas levels stable its a pain in the arse! Everytime you open your tent to change water ect your gas dissipates and has to return to optimal levels. That shits not exactly cheap either, atleast not around here. Sorry for all the extra info, that's just the way I am.

i do this too, it doesn't seem so popular though, are you old ?
i think its pretty oldskool to veg for 16 hrs
or maybe you're young and 16 hurs is back in fashion, you're a trend setter lol

peace
I ran 16/8 for years till I switched to the Gas Lantern Routine

and I'm old LOL

Im in my late 30's and been growing 21 years total, 12 years on a serious level. I veg 18hrs, 16hrs only for seedlings and clones. Some veg for 24hrs but knowing what I know about horticulture this is a mistake. Optimal veg is 18/6. Plants do need some darkness every 24hr period. Will they survive and produce? Sure they will, but one must decide if they just want fast growth or if they want quick growth and overall health. A healthy plant is resistant to temperature extremes and pest attack. Think about it, for optimal results you want to imitate the plants natural climate conditions. Plants dont even get 18hrs of light in nature. Plants have adapted to climactic conditions over millions of years for survival. Part of a plants cycle occurs durring daylight hours and the rest durring darkness, and they need a rest or they can become exhausted. This is the reason plants need recovery time after a barerooting/transplanting and after a hard cut back. If you demand plants do what you want them too they become weakend and must be rewarded for there work.

The debate of veg times seems nothing but personal preference to me. There are so many posts about the pros and cons of each, and many swear by both methods. Either way I'm going to try both and see what works best for me. Still I'm more curious about the original topic of the thread which is why does my seedling have pistils. Not about veg times.

????? Cannabis does NOT "need" a dark period on a recurring sched. to veg (grow)! Just because it's a C-3 plant does not mean it has to follow all C-3 rules of growth!

With that said, I do NOT subscribe to running them 24/0 at any time!

AND! those are NOT pistils!

People have the right to believe what they want to. Im not saying it cant be done, but just because a plant is green and grows does not mean its healthy and has a strong immune system. Plants live off the exact same nutrients, vitamins, and compounds humans do. I person can live off fruits and vegetables alone but they will not be healthy. People that eat nothing but fruit and veggies and dont eat atleast fish and eggs are some of the unhealthiest people alive. Same with plants, they will live without a lot of what they need but it wont last long. With cannabis they generally have a short life, they grow a few weeks then they are killed. Try keeping a plant alive long term without it getting what it needs to be healthy. Take any kind of tree temperate or tropical and give it 24/0 all the time long term and see what happens. It will exhaust itself and die. Same as putting a maple in a greenhouse year round without it getting at least 50 days winter rest. Plants that are grown 24/0 are not truely healthy, they make it because they are grown one cycle and killed. Well 2 cycles I should say. Watch what happens to one of these plants that suffer a pest attack or heat extremes. The key to not getting pests is health and immune system. Pests attack weakened unhealthy plants. Strong healthy plants they will leave alone.

depends on the strain

some auto`s love 24/0

some plants will turn male if you veg over 16 hours

and some plants will flower under 18 hours

c99 sex`s up for me at 18 hours probably would at 20 or 24 too, if I veg c99 under 18 hours it`ll flower maybe I`d get away with a 3 to 5 week veg @ 14 to 16 hours, funny as most other strains seem ok to veg @ 16 hours some even like 14

but the fast flowering hybrids seem to like a longer day time in veg

I have not had the pleasure of growing autos, I have no experience with them. Its very hard for me to get seeds because crooked cops randomly run a K-9 through the local post office. I have to have them sent to other people so I usually don't mess with it. Autos may be a whole other story because of thier breeding in captivity. I wish I could get some good auto seeds.

I DO understand your point.
I agree to a point.
I disagree (strongly) to another point.

I see constantly (through a little growers "club") other particular growers, who have "forever" vegged at 24/0 for extended periods, say around 4 weeks till they begin with a lights out period. They have for almost as long as I've known them, to be trouble free and have some very healthy and well vegged plants.....
I have gone on and on with them about the why's and hows of Cannabis and it's reactions to light and the plants physical reactions to it and darkness - Right on down to the cellular peptide level......
I can only conclude that the plants during veg have an innate ability to "carry on", even under high Umol/lumin (whatever) conditions and still be able to produce great results....Keep in mind these are well above average growers and have adjusted their methods over years.

There are those on here that run a 24/0 veg and are beyond well versed and educated on the growing of Cannabis. I respect them and yes, I still make the choice not to.....

I believe that you can run 24/0 "safely". I will agree that that's not a "stress free" situation....I do not see anyone (with the "skills"), here or at home. Having any increased problems with bugs or infestations of any kind...

You have a general idea, based in actual science, on your mind. You have formed a conclusion based on that. I'm interested to know if you actually know why (the science) your against 24/0? You see, even though I do have that knowledge.....I still see things in life that contradict that exact knowledge....Therefore, I must conclude that it is "ok" to practice something I "feel" is wrong.

Trust me on this! A Dutch Master - schooled me on it, when I made your style of statement! ( AND I still say "Light saturation point in C-3 Plants" ;);) )

PEACE

Looks perfectly normal. 24/0 for the first week or two is fine then I think you'll have better growth by switching to 18/6
