My seed order was confiscated.

Yeah, I won't be making any orders from them again. I just don't feel good about how mine got here compared to what I expected.

I'll be honest with you, I didn't even know that a U.S. option was even a possibility when I made this order. I don't live in a medical state, and don't have any friends or local connections with access to seeds. Most of the bag seeds I accumulated wouldn't germinate.

My experience probably isn't the most common, I was just really sick one day and in a ton of pain and my sister's boyfriend offered me a joint. It made all the difference in the world. He lives on the east coast now, and I only have one local connection, so growing is going to be my best option. Plus, with my limited income, growing is MUCH more reasonable financially for me. I just got too excited to order without doing proper research, I guess. The fact that two people I know in real life recommended it gave me a lot of confidence, so maybe mine was a fluke.
Just to point out, when you factor in all costs, if you are growing just for yourself and not selling, there isnt a real huge savings.
Considering the cost of everything, start up costs (tent/lights/fans) soil, nutrients, electricity, maintenance, bulbs, etc. etc. small grows compared to picking up a bag weekly isnt much difference.
The positives are such things as being able to choose what you grow/smoke, not needing a connection, avoiding the shaky store meet up spot, etc. etc.

I am a big fan of Attitude/Choice. I have been ordering from them for many years now and have never had an issue unresolved. I am waiting on a package right now that I paid for by sending cash. It was received, verified and mail is currently on tracking past the ICS. Hopefully arriving at my mailbox in the next 2 days.

I don't agree with that. It's WAY cheaper to grow your own, especially if, like him, you're living in a non-legal state where people will demand top dollar for mediocre bud.

$500 tops to get all the gear you need (including seeds) to potentially grow a pound of nice bud. I bet that same $500 wouldn't even get him 2 ounces where he lives.

You think he is growing a pound of bud? Ok, sure if he is turning out a pound of bud on a very regular basis his expenses wont be that much different.

I also guess if he is a super heavy smoker, he will save a lot of money as well. Sure didnt sound like a super heavy smoker, sounded to me like maybe a 20-50 bucks a week at most kind of smoker.

I grow about half a lb per batch and while I certainly save money, nowhere near like some people seem to think.

I hear "free weed" way too often.

also unless he gets 2 grow spots (1k instead of 500) he will need to veg/flower in the same spot so now we are looking at a 3 month turn around minimum.
I will say he will produce 6-8zs every 3 months.

There's not ? I can't imagine how you arrived at that. This was my start up a few years ago:

Emily's Garden 6 bin hydro unit [included pump, nutrients for one grow, ph test kit, and air stones] - $75
400 watt MH / hps ballast and 1 bulb of each - $119
Timer - $15
6 single DinaFem beans w/ shipping and freebies - $85
I had a closet, but soon added a 2 x 3 ft tent - $79
1 month 18/6 electricity, and 2 months 12/12 - just a guess....maybe $100 ?

So...roughly $475, and all but se-eds and electric came from Amazon.com

12 weeks later, 3+ zips of Ca Hash Plant, and 4+ zips of Critical +. Though I consider both avg for indoor, they were both far better than the usually available bags of bud that runs $275 a sack. At local price, that's 7 x $275 = $1,925 value vs less than a $500 investment.

I used to spend about 200 bucks a month for buds, now I spend about 100 bucks a month on growing.
Depends on what all you are doing I guess. I dont sell so nothing comes back.

That's not a sales chart. Just illustrating costs through past history, and comparing to the buyer's market that I was aware of.

I also failed to add, that after the first grow, the only expenses are nutes and electric [hydro], should the grower choose to stay with a basic, productive one tent grow set up. The grower should have surplus buds to sell, barter, give -away, make hash/edibles/ etc.

I hear most growers in legal states choose to continue to grow, even though they can purchase mega varieties at the dispensary. Just a guess, but if it were no economic benefit to grow, they'd buy at the store, right? I would.

I'm doing an outdoor grow this year, so I'll only have plant food as an expense (for the most part, obviously.)

Decent stuff around here is $350 an ounce -if- I can find it. Plus there's the worry of being caught or arrested, I'd lose my disability check if I was convicted of a felony so there's more on the line there. I've had a hard time finding it lately, I buy with a friend because it's his connection but he hasn't been able to get the guy to agree on a time to meet each month.

I'm currently going through an ounce a month and would like to have more, I have to ration and wait until my pain is at a certain point before I use it. My pain condition is kind of unique, and I'm afraid it would be enough to identify me, or at least heavily narrow it down, if I listed it. But I have multiple instances of pain at a 7-10 level each week because of kidney issues. I've found even Percocet doesn't help the way marijuana helps for this, and it has the added nausea reducing element and the ultra benefit of being a non-opiate and doesn't make me feel weird and exhausted. Pot actually makes me feel like getting up and doing things I don't ordinarily feel like doing. At its best, it can make me feel better than I have in the last few years. It's so nice to have that now; I've been more active since I've become a daily user than all of the previous year.

The other thing is, the guy we get our stuff from doesn't grow. One month I got Orange Kush, one month it was Purple Urkle, one month was Afghan Kush, etc. It was all good stuff, but I had no alternate choice or the ability to get something I liked again.

When I grow I can make my own choices, and grow what I like and know what I'm getting and not being surprised when we go to pick it up.

As far as sales, I'm not super interested in that, but may sell to the guy I buy with. I'm not selling to get rich or anything, just to help him out too.

Yep - the exact thing just happened to me. You could tell the package had never been open since the first time it was taped up. I thought it as interesting "customs" would keep sending through the package and not mail me the "confiscated" letter separate. First thing I thought was it was a scam. The most disappointing part is, I never got my seeds and was super excited thinking they would come any day

Yep exactly.
I can make my own choices, grow what I like, know HOW it is grown.
I will KNOW no one is PISSING OR SPERMING on my buds in attempt to make them better and other such nasty, fucked up, bullshit. I also know it will be cured properly, etc. And I never have to worry about meeting at the freaking citgo to score a bag that might be 3 grams shy but who can check when you are meeting at a freaking citgo.

Certainly, growing your own pot is cost efficient and fulfilling.I started growing a longtime ago.I was introduced to this by my boyfriend who is now on volunteer work in Africa. He can sort you out with the seeds if you fancy growing hard strains.

That's one thing I like about growing my own too. Last year several people in my town got sick because of some bad pot. When I grow it I know what fertilizers/nutrients are being used and I know that there's been no foliar sprays used.

Well when you quantify it with selling, then sure you will more than make your money back. But, I dont sell nor does it seem OP will. OP will be growing small grows for himself. Sure he will save some money, but not as much as it would seem.
If he is currently spending 200 bucks a month (guess) on bud he will spend atleast 100 bucks a month on growing. 100 dollar savings is cool, but not like it is some windfall in your bank account.

Also, if he is in an illegal state, concentrates might be something he avoids. Who wants a 5 year minimum MANDATORY sentence for under 1 gram of concentrate? Risk and reward is way the hell out of balance for concentrates in illegal states.

The 'windfall' will be in his bud jars, if he has even novice skills.

If he or she were only smoking an ounce a month, then two - 3-4 month runs in a small tent would give him much more than enough personal buds for the entire year.

Are the mandatory minimums that strict for concentrates?

I know when Mass. was still illegal there was no mandatory minimum for growing.

Yeah in some states it is just over the top ridiculous.

There is a link to a state in another thread. I know Mississippi has a 2 year minimum mandatory for 1/10th - 2 grams up to 8 years and 50k fine.

Do you live in the states? There's plenty of cool cats on here that do some breeding and/or have extra seeds laying around that might be inclined to share. Stick around for a bit and I bet you get hooked up.... just don't talk about it out in the open. Gotta stick to PM's or the posts will vanish.
I hate to ask this, because I don't want to be seen as a moocher or beggar, but if anyone has two or three Blueberry or Strawberry variant strain seeds they don't want and would be willing to part with them I'd appreciate it forever.

I'm on disability and extremely low on cash this month, but could pay you for them in June if someone would be willing to help me out.

(Honestly, anything that someone would be willing to help me out with and they think is good for internal physical pain would be incredible. I've had great luck with two Blueberry strains I tried, and with Arjan's Strawberry and Strawberry Ambesia. That's why I mentioned those. But anything for pain would be amazing.)

@Herb & Suds Is that Original-SSC or Single Seed Center? I hadn't realized they were so close when I posted the title. OriginalSSC just offered me 50% of the value in store credit and said nothing abut resending it.
