My Mexican Ditch Weed

I'm guessing that Mexey seeds are mostly sativa, and normally grow in a near equatorial area, where there is never more than 14hrs/day of sunlight or less than 10. I once grew a Tia strain that took 50+ days of 12/12 to show sex and then only after dropping the hrs of light. I would drop your light on time to 10.5 hrs till they show sex which will be about a wk. You can then increase the light time to 11 on.

Since I'm always growing some sort of sativa, I start my flip at 11/13 and after 6 or 7 wks I'll drop it again to 10.5.
Thanks WattSaver, I'll give that a whirl as I sure don't want to wait 50+ days.

Today I did notice what may be the first signs of a male pod, but still not clear enough to chop it down

Still waiting for clear signs of gender, but they have grown in the 12 days of 12/12.

I actually don't want them all to be males as I don't have enough room for them all, so 2 or 3 would be perfect

Notice how the runt is so much different than the other 4, as it looks more like Indica than Sativa, but I do know they all came from the same source

cheers

my guess is the two tall ones are male and the two shorter ones are female, but it's the runt (pic 1) that really looks completely different with the wide leaves
I'd have to agree with your guess on the male/female, & the wide leaf with shorter node lengths is expressing something completely different, got my fingers crossed for a chick. I'm really impressed with the girth of the stocks in a 2L. I'm sure they will at least double in height.

With the shorter lights on time they will be showing sex soon.

thanks Watts....so I have the lights on a bit under 11 hours, just may reduce a bit more as they are just not showing gender, but it has only been 3 nights of extended darkness so I'll hang on.

I have heard that using HPS in the veg mode will cause thicker stocks, which I believe may be true and not such a bad thing

once there were 5, now there are 4, as a male emerged, thus it now sleeps inside a poop container in a nearby doggie park.

None of the 4 remaining have female preflowers yet, but at least no balls

BTW: the tall lanky one was male, so typical of Sativa

Just because its brick weed (I assume thats what you mean, unless you purposely bought "ditch weed") doesnt mean its sativa and certainly not that its the same genetics throughout the brick.....only the the traditional families grow their handed down sativas. The cartels buy genetics to "improve" and cross in

Good luck..I love growing brick weed....it can quickly take over and kick out your named genetics

I was in a Mexican resort and a buddy gave me a 1/4 oz of trash weed as a present, so i just called it "Mexican Ditch Weed" because that's what we called it in the 70's

I thought it was cool because the taste brought my back to the old days when we would buy a pound for $200 and there would be 2 or 3 ounces of seeds and stock.

Anyhow, just having fun with this crop, could care less what I may harvest

Glad to see they've started to show sex. Thought you might have one of those strains that need to mature for 2 or 3 months before they even think about flowering.

I did get to smoke a little mex this last weekend, a new taste is always nice and it did what it had to do, but I'm glad I don't have to smoke it day to day.

this is a real day-to-day grow, as there are several things happening which may require the termination of this grow, hence the reason I'm playing around with these low grade seeds.

if all goes well I just may reap some bud, if not it's all just a learning experiment

cheers

They are showing female preflowers with the exception of the runt which is not showing any signs of gender

I really only wanted 2 females as I don't think I have enough room for all of them, but since I didn't top them, there may be enough room for 3 or 4

Typically I would kill the runt, but this one looks so unique that I will keep it going should it be female.

The largest one in the 2.84 litre juice bottle (pic 1) was started in a dirt cube and was 4 days behind the others, but came on strong and quickly became the biggest..... I thought it was going to be male but it's not.

I personally wouldn't say it's a runt, it's just showing indica traits which makes it smaller with fatter leaves, I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all.

I hope you get to finish the grow, I'm subbed up and super interested. I also hope you find something killer in there, would be super neat :)

It does look Indica but it did come from the same 1/4 ounce, so that's why I call it a runt as it's is so much smaller/shorter than the others

In an outdoors grow where this bag seed came from, the seed could have one of many different fathers,,, even from miles away. Could have been from the neighbors killer personal strain, you just never know. Might want to take a clone before it gets into heavy flower. If it turns out to be a boy then you can kill the clone to.....
