Cannabox: they look like boxelder bugs. Boxelder Bugs

Yup, I think you're right... that says they rarely eat house plants, but apparently they like cannabis. The bastards have good taste at least.

Remember when you said I should get my light figured out or it would kick my ass later? Boy were you right. When the light came on today, the tall plant had grown another 4 inches and was touching it, and I had already moved it as high as it would possibly go last night... so my plan had been to remove the top shelf from my set of shelves, and just drop my bin down to the one below it... it didn't fit(I could have sworn I measured this when I bought the shelves. I ended up ripping the last set of shelves in my closet that were bolted into the walls out, then, since I couldn't find a stud in the ceiling, I tried hanging my light in a crazy way it wasn't meant to be hung, and ripped a rivet out of the reflector... jury-rigged that back together, bent the crap out of at least 2 drill bits, and fixed it(it's stronger than it was when I started). Got a crappy stud-finder from wally world, and hung the light from the ceiling like I should have done in the first place. It doesn't hang quite over the center of my grow... so when I have more plants, I'm going to have to do something about that(don't worry, I have a plan)... anyway, bottom line is my plants sat under my normal bedroom light for about 2 hours while I fixed all of this(don't think that'll herm them, right?), and I have a massive headache... but it's done, and I shouldn't have to move anything around for awhile. I also hung my fan from the wall while I was at it, so it will hit the tops of the plants instead of the bottom, and isn't using up valuable space. I also switched the table around in such a way that it will drain a little bit better, and got more room for the plants so they're not up against the wall, and moved the ballast to the floor outside of the closet(it was on the window sill to keep it cool, but I don't think it'll be a problem where it is).

Still only one plant(the big one) is showing sex organs, but at least they're the right ones. I wasn't expecting to be growing hemp trees. I hope it gets tired of this burst of growth it's going through, or there's not going to be any room for the other plant.... I know most people don't complain about that sort of problem. Anyway, will post pics tomorrow when I'm not so exhausted. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to smoke myself into a well deserved coma.

Hmmmmm LOL you should be ok with the light i think its when you screw with the times you run the chance of hermage. keep going your doing fine.

So, I'm 10 days into flowering now, and my plants are starting to grow buds(I took pictures, but they didn't turn out). I'm stoked... except my one plant still hasn't shown any sign of sex as far as I can tell. The one is clearly female, but the other one seems to be neuter. :P Is this normal, for flowers to start appearing before genitals? If it's flowering, does that mean it's female, or herm? These are the best pics I managed, but I'll try to get better once the light comes on tonight. The first 2 are pictures of the nodes of the genderless plant. There could be balls there, but I think it's just new growth. The third one is a blurry picture of the flowers starting to form on that same plant.

So, I got drunk and didn't come home tonight when my light turned on... Icarus finally grew too high and fried herself on the light. I was afraid this would happen and I let it anyway. :wall: The good news is that it was just the leaves that fried, and the new flowery-bud-like thingy that's growing seems to have been mostly unharmed. I broke off the burnt leaves. I don't think there's really much else I can do unless it's not too late to top the plant.

I'm not going to mess with it any more regardless until tomorrow when I'm sober. I'm really pissed off at myself right now.

The other bad news is, I think my other plant is a male. I started a thread here https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/131194-can-you-tell.html to determine for sure.

So, looking at the plants this morning, the burn damage doesn't look all that bad. The moisture came back into the flower, except for the very tip, which was brown, but I snipped off the dead part. Only a few leaves roasted to the point of no return, and I cleaned them up a little too. I think it's going to be ok. I'm about 95% convinced that my second plant is male. I'll probably pull it tonight. Here's likely the last picture of the whole family together.

So, as I suspected, one of my plants was a male... so I chopped it and shoved it down the garbage disposal. A crowd gathered to mourn.

Or maybe they just wanted to eat it... not sure.

Plant is doing good. One of my roommates keeps burning incense, so I think he's trying to tell me something. I built myself a carbon filter, using plans from this thread(I added some modifications) ->> https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/7074-easy-build-diy-carbon-filter.html

I also purchased a 6" 250cfm fan, some dryer ducting, and some other things. The plan was to connect the fan to my cool tube, running air from the room through the light, out the top of the door, and through the carbon filter. I, however, failed to get one of the connectors I need, so that project's going to have to wait.

Anyway, here are some new photos of my plant... I say plant even though I still have that little tiny one that's not getting any light. I'm thinking I may give it to my friend as an early xmas present... make it his problem.

This plant germinated 10/7, making it 42 days old. It's been under 12/12 for 13 days. It's a little over 3' tall, but thankfully, seems to be done getting bigger. Maybe because it's lonely since I took its brother away. How's it look?

It seems like it's doing pretty friggin' well to me, but I'm no expert.

:weed: that looks really good!! if your going to chop her right there put something in the bed like hydroton. so the roots can get out more.

Surprisingly enough I don't seem to be having root problems. They just barely even come to the surface of the rockwool. I was thinking maybe hydroton gives less room thank other mediums because it's bigger chunks, so there are fewer gaps? Might be interesting to see if you use perlite or something if you can manage with the 6" pots. Could also maybe just be a strain thing? Some strains have more roots? I dunno.

Anyway, I finally got around to stealthing up my closet...

It's still easy to hear from my bedroom, but nowhere else in the house. The smell seems to be improving already. I was kind of thinking it might over-heat, because there doesn't seem to be too much airflow actually getting through my filter and everything, but it's staying right at 80 degrees. I'm going to have to get a step stool and probably some of those adjustable light hangers, because adjusting the height of the lights is going to be a royal pain now. The plant is still doing the same. It's putting all its energy into growing bud. One of the bottom leaves is yellowing, but it sounds like that's normal, as the plant draws nitrogen out of the bottom leaves to put into the buds.

The cats are disappointed because they can't bask in the light anymore.

Man, I'm horrible at keeping my journal updated when nothing exciting is happening. I keep meaning to take pictures, but with so little room in my closet, and with the buds being well over my head, and the fact that I'm usually high when I'm going to do it, I usually decide it's too much work. I'll try to get some pics tonight.. maybe.

I'm 24 days into flowering. The plant's put on a little burst of bud growth in the last few days after not doing much visually for awhile. I think it may have been in shock because I let it get too close to the light again. I also accidentally "supercropped" one of the branches... so we'll see how that turns out. So far it looks just as healthy and productive as any other. I haven't added any molasses or super duper bud grow or anything... still just using the same GH nutes, though I've upped the PPM a bit. I plan on doing some research in that particular area after work tonight.

My carbon filter isn't working very well. Actually, I don't think it's the filter's fault, it's the way I have the ducting set up... it goes from a 6" fan straight into a 4" duct, and most of the air blows back out, creating very little air flow. I plan on rearranging it in the near future, but I have the house to myself over the holidays, so there's no big hurry to take care of the smell, and the temp's still good, maxing out at 82, though it did get down to 62 one night.

The little plant is starting to flower. I dunno what I'm going to do with it because it's not going to be done when my big one is, and I don't want to put off the next batch to wait for it to finish, but I don't want to let it go to waste either, since it is a female. I may just put it in the window or something and see if I can get a bowl out of it. If nothing else it gives me a general idea of what a plant looks like going straight from seed to flower, though it's been under very suboptimal conditions.

Anyway... yeah... pics, tonight, maybe...

Here are the latest pics of my buds... the light's too bright, so I couldn't get it without lines.

Maybe someone will be able to see this and tell me what strain it is. The buds are very white and it looks strongly indica... other than that I dunno.

Alright, I'm into week 4 of flowering, and I thought I'd post some pics... unfortunately, the plant's overflowing my closet... there's not even anywhere to stand to take pics, and the top of it is over my head... so I can't get a full view of it at all. On top of that, it's way too bright for my camera in most of it, which is why the pics are all top-down.

As you can see, there's a little bit of burn on a few of the leaves. Not sure what's causing it, so I started a thread to try to figure it out.

So, I'm fairly certain that the burn I was seeing was heat stress. The closet gets up to 90F sometimes, which I know is a wee bit high. I raised the light to get it further away from the plant, and am channeling air into the closet from my open window. I still need to work on the air circulation, but I'm waiting for my next paycheck. I haven't noticed any new burn, and what's there looks a little better. I don't know what I'll do when summer comes... but I guess I'll cross that bridge when I there. The buds are looking good. I've only ever seen weed dried and in a bag before, but I'm guessing there's already at least half an O on the plant, and it's only half way through flowering... I'm going to be ecstatic if I can get a full ounce off of one plant on my first try. :)

Looks really good so far good job! You are one of the new growers like myself and a few others here that really research and understand and only ask questions when needed. You have a good looking grow there keep it up.

And a far as how much you will yield off your first grow I like to use my patented Poundankage table. Use the directions along with my meter and you should be spot on. LOL

A 'Poundankage' table

The PoundDankage Table (measuring 8 metres by 4m) with 4 'pockets' (measuring 0.5m and placed at diagonal slants in all 4 corners) contains 10 balls (each with a diameter of 0.25m) placed at the following coords:
2m,1m...(white ball)
...and red balls...
1m,5m... 2m,5m... 3m,5m
1m,6m... 2m,6m... 3m,6m
1m,7m... 2m,7m... 3m,7m

The white ball is then shot at a particular angle from 0 to 360 degrees (0 being north, and going clockwise).
Just to make it clear, a ball is 'potted' if at least half of the ball is in area of the 'pocket'

Assuming the balls travel indefinitely (i.e. no loss of energy via friction, air resistance or collisions), answer the following:

a: What exact angle/s should you choose to ensure that all the balls are potted the quickest?
b: What is the minimum amount of contacts the balls can make with each other before they are all knocked in?
c: Same as b, except that each ball - just before it is knocked in - must not have hit the white ball on its previous contact (must be a red instead of course).
d: What proportion of angles will leave the white ball the last on the table to be potted?

When you find the angle of the from the proportions you will have your POUNDDANKAGE!!

What a brilliant system! I used it, and it told me I'm going to produce 1/4 pound, 19 oz, 2 grams, 1.3 microtons and 1.73 newton/m^2. I'm so excited! though I'm not sure if that's a British microton, or a US microton... so your system needs a little clarification in that area. I also used it to determine the strain of my bagseed, which has been a burning question in my mind... it came out to be Red Widow Sugar Baby Whackenbush Blue!

This is week 5 of flowering.

I managed to get a couple pics before the light warmed up and blinded the camera(and me).

The top cola is huge. I dunno if it's normally supposed to look like that, or if it's because I DIB(Damn I Burn)ed it, but it branches into a whole bunch of buds at the top. Some of the side branches are starting to have trouble supporting themselves... so they just lean against the wallls. I think I'll tie them up to keep them a little closer to the light. The branch I supercropped is actually the least productive by a small margin. As you can probably see, there's still a little bit of heat stress going on, but I got paid today and I'll work on the venting tomorrow. I've already managed to cool it down a few degrees in there.
