Well that explains away most of the conspiracy theories...

A large financial corporation would likely have someone reading through the submissions to the MM department and knew there were problems. Such a company might sell a large portion of its holdings in a company as a hedge against something bad. If the rig did not experience problems they could buy the stock back a few days later...

And just adds another conspiracy of government inaction.

I don't get it, honestly....

If 6 months ago, the administration had announced that they will be aggressively reigning in deepwater drilling and strengthening the governments regulatory powers over the oil industry, you guys would all have been screeching at the top of your lungs to the fox news, rush limbaugh chorus of "obama is stifling the economy and preventing job growth with sierra club environmentalist bullshit". Now that we have a major disaster on our hands, some of you are bitching that they weren't doing enough?

Doing enough is a subjective term. Members of the Mineral Management services were having sex with employees of the oil companies and surfing porn on government time. I think in that instance they did quite enough...

My problem is having a president with an unpopular agenda that he has no worries about lying about to the American public.

Take healthcare. He promised that it would lower healthcare costs for individuals and the government. We already know that individual rate costs are going to go up and the supposed 100 billion in savings over 10 years was eliminated by some of the additional measures not discovered until the bill was passed. So, we get none of the economic benefits the president promised in the bill.

Now he also wants cap and trade. Green energy is too expensive to compete with gas, coal and oil. The only way to make it competitive (in the progressives minds) is to make these products cost 50-100% more so solar and wind power can compete. So, the presidents agenda (and he has said this on videotape) is to necessarily cause energy prices to skyrocket in this country to force a green agenda. Putting a moratorium on production of oil in the gulf and letting the spill continue are two ways to nudge the populace toward his goals. I dont think he cares about the poor people at all. He will make energy so expensive that we will required an energy stamp program like the food stamp program to subsidize the poor people who will get hurt by the worst of it. More expense, more taxes, more social subsidy programs... Obamanation...
