Molasses doesnt do anything

I heard from a master grower that the compounds of molasses are too complex for a marijuana plant to break down do you think its true??

I disagree with that but what do I know.

True. Plants cannot utilize complex carbo's. But as our local token says, it's not for the plants, but to feed the micro herd in the soil which will in their turn, feed the plants.

It's a great chelator.

ya in the soil ive never heard of anyone putting it on their leaves. ive never used molasses i was just curious what people think. this guy is a #1 grower in northern ca, santa cruz and has studied plants of every kind for years. i think people might be wasting their time.

Molasses is mostly sugar (sucrose) with some extra minerals; iron, calcium, and potassium being the ones probably of most interest to cannabis growers.

The sugar, bluntly, is a disaccharide that the plants roots can't absorb, and it does nothing for the plant.

On the other hand, adding sugar to the soil is a great way (in my opinion) to attract insects and other pests. Hurray! It probably does improve the flavor of the soil. Yum!!

The minerals might help, if the growing soil/medium were short on those. As mentioned above, molasses can act as a chelator, potentially locking up certain minerals, though I don't think this effect would that pronounced with only small amounts diluted with water.

I won't exclude that adding sugars could feed bacteria in the soil that might help fix nutrients, though its not clear to me why trying this would be preferable to adding necessary nutrients in a controlled manner via a properly formulated fertilizer/nutrient mix.

I think its just as likely that you're going to cause fermentation by yeasts in the soil, potentially altering its pH and inhibiting growth.

In short, in my opinion the thesis that molasses adds nothing is correct.

I used it last harvest and you can definately taste it, made the smoke so smooth that all i did was hang and dry, no curing needed. 2tlbs per gallon, water reguar for last mo.

I use molasses in my teas religiously. From everything that I've researched, it is almost always a component in the teas to feed the microherds. Hard to go against the sheer amount of canna\organic gardening info out there about it. If you're using syn chems, sounds like a completely different story at that point.

OBVIOUSLY THATS NOT A MASTER GROWER.

Remember everyone thinks they are grandmaster, but it only until you consistently hit 1.5 gram to watt. By the way I do 1.5 g/w in SOIL/Coir both so I can call bullshit.

I left this forum because I outgrew it and wanted to progress other members that I could learn from. This forum is more active so I have got to speak up on what I consider a post that needs to be corrected.

I have used all of these and the biggest increase in late flower is the sass. NUFF SAID. TRY to flame and list your g/w cause thats like your sat score.

Yeah as said before, your master grower friend is no master. Otherwise he would know that the idea is not to feed the plant with the molasses but to feed the myco life which will in return feed the plant.
