Mixing CFL and Fluorescent?

The following is a good definition: Feigning piety or righteousness

Righteousnes simply means right ways. This is a way of feeling good about oneself by diminishing another. Where does this idea come from that it is proper to do research before asking a question on a forum because otherwise a question might be too elementary? The authority of anyone to suggest that others comply with that kind of standard exists only in the imaginationof the person making the suggestion.
It's really just a general question of respect. Asking an obvious question happens on accident at times, granted. The issue is that your question indicates that you don't give enough of a shit to do a basic google search to find out what a CFL is, yet you expect other people to give enough of a shit to do the legwork for you. Some people may be offended by the fact that you hold your time in so much higher regard than ours, that you expect us to provide you with things you have free access to already. If you can't see that and expect some degree of flaming on your horizon, then you are really new to forums. There is a standard here, if you had looked around a bit, you would have realized it: If it's easily googled and not complex, someone is going to give you shit for asking about it.

So you know righteousness, according to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary is "acting in accord with divine or moral law : free from guilt or sin". Sounds like moral superiority. I'll stick with my interpretation.

Everyone who saw the question thought it was stupid, no one got violent about it until you decided to put a tinfoil hat on and call us all self righteous. While also, at the same time directly attacking someone who actually in my opinion used pretty good reservation in not being rude about some pretty obvious laziness.

The idiot that said do research before you come onto a forum, isn't helping anyone's case. But Before you can do any research at all you need to define terms, or in this case, abbreviations. You had no concept of what you were asking, which is what makes the question that much more stupid.

Just because the fairly cool chick with glasses in her avatar defended you doesn't mean it's a good idea to get a big head and try to legitimize what clearly was a very poorly formulated question.

It's just a matter of language, and terms, if you don't know what a term is, don't use it in a sentence. It's simple, and it's not higher level thinking, it's basic communication.... and it doesn't require research.

What you also might not realize is that most people weren't actually offended by your laziness, we just ignored your dumb question. I know because that's what I did. It was your rude and hypocritical self righteousness that pissed me off.

You're lazy and rude, and I have a hard time believing I'm the first one to tell you that. So quit the acting and please just disappear into a seam in the internet.

Right buddy, because creating this piece of fucking shit thread was way easier than typing 3 fucking characters "CFL" into google.
If the cunt doesn't know what a fucking cfl is don't fucking come on here posting fucking bullshit like this piece of fucking shit thread.

This site is full of good information. But it is also full of fucking bullshit like this.

Also my first response was a genuine one trying to help the guy. If you read it it is simply a suggestion of maybe try reading first to avoid this very situation. It was only after he reacted badly that I replied with that.

Go fuck yourself ;)

That's got to be one of the stupidest remarks I've ever read. How exactly does one educate themselves without asking stupid questions? Isn't that like getting in shape before going to the gym? Learning how to swim before getting in the pool? People come here to learn, not to be talked down to. You made a choice to open the thread, read the question, and respond to it. It would have been much simpler for you to hit the back button and move on. But you chose to post your demeaning response. Take your own advice, and take the easy route next time. If you don't like the thread, get the fuck out.

I just think how can a fucking human being be so fucking retarded that they don't know what a CFL is. It's not even a growing specific thing. It used everyday by millions of people everywhere in the world. It's a light bulb FFs

he's probably a 13 year old kid who still lives at home with his parents who shouldn't even be here in the first place. But damn kids of 5 are probably smarter than him.

I really don't think he's 13 dude. I honestly don't think he gets the "kid" excuse.

There was this dude in my dorm 9 years ago that used to get irate when he could hear anyone having sex in their dorm room for more than 15 minutes. It wasn't that he was getting pissed off that was the issue, it's that he had a very wrong / skewed concept of what sex was. I compare bartow to Mr Gore (leak!) in that the reason his outburst is unjustified because he has 0 concept of what he's asking, or in the sex metaphor, what he was complaining about. Gore was 26. bartow is probably very similarly in his mid twenties early 30's and similarly incredibly lonely.

That's the bit that gets me. I knew what CFL stood for before the thought of smoking, much less growing, was a twinkle in my mind. I've never even grown with CFL's, and even I knew what it means; it's not like you have to request secret government documents. I don't think anyone around here expects total knowledge of growing, but an attempt to meet people half-way seems to be expected.

A stupid question only exists if there is an obvious answer. If you ask "Why does 1+1=2?", that is a stupid question; there would be no contest. Yet, if someone asks "Is mixing a Compact Fluorescent Bulb and fluorescent lighting bad?", that reeks of an obvious lack of concern for an actual attempt to gain knowledge. If you wandered into an electronics forum, would you ask "Hey, what do AC and DC stand for? I don't want to look them up."? I mean honestly, if you wander onto any site where the premise is an exchange of information, you are expected to at least attempt to pull your own weight.

Poly! Haven't seen you in a minute. How's shit going for you?
its going pretty good, got a new journal and a lot more strains, been breeding and what not, you know the same old, got into a new hobby growing mushrooms seems i have a knack for it. had an unfortunate accident recently but besides that all is well. feel free to drop in my thread some time.

No one asked for you to answer though. If your so angry about his question move on. I think it's funny you are trying to defend someone who did get snobby. And to the guy making all the "intellectual" comments trying to impress everyone, get off it bud. The fact that you continue to speak down to people only confirms your a jerk. He could of researched sure, and sure the comments after tended to come across rather ignorantly (as anyone will when they feel attacked). But people learn differently and when I read the response i feel the responder just is on the forums to much and gets angry for no reason. Just take a break, smoke, and relax, we are not here to prove we are better teachers, growers, smokers, or debaters. We are here to cultivate a passion with millions of other people, that takes an open, accepting environment, not a condescending one. Happy Growing To All!

I respect where you're coming from dude, i really do.

A community will decide who it wants to induct, and who it wants to associate with, that is just how communities work. You can have a login and not be a part of the community.

His lack of respect, social grace, and excessive laziness will always cause him to be outcast by society.

No one asked him to be pro to get along, no one said he had to be smart, he's clearly indicated that he has 0 intention of pulling his weight and his interest in RIU is completely instrumental, so I see no reason to waste energy defending his position.

If he can't learn to not scream "fuck you" when he gets embarassed then I'm pretty sure no one wants to read through his ramblings and mood swings to find what little he might actually be capable of contributing.

All good points. I just get a lil peeved when ppl get going on here, it should be a happy place haha :) I'm just smokin and enjoying my time here.

Aye man, the wealth of knowledge i have gained through RIU and personal sources in the past 3 months is staggering.

I asked some stupid questions, I still get shit for some of the newb mistakes I made, but that's life. It takes a level of humility to learn, either internally to motivate to do the hands on research, or social and conversational humility to ask those who learned by getting dirty. you can't just be a douchebag and argue you have the same right to learn.

I'm truly glad there are people like you guys on this site, but i don't take kindly when someone comes in and just starts insulting something I am actually quite happy to be a part of.

Admittedly, I did come down pretty hard on the OP. In an age where I have access to previously unheard-of amounts of information, it's incredibly lazy to be unable to figure out what something as common as "CFL" stands for. A simple search of "side lighting" would have informed the OP of how common it is as well. The reason people are annoyed is because it's been covered before, ad nauseum. It's like walking into a class and telling the teacher "I want all the answers for the tests." the teacher will tell you "Look in the course materials."; if you then tell the teacher "That's too much work.", he would most likely just drop you then and there. Nobody wants to help someone who has made no attempt to help themselves.

As far as my attempt to impress people with how intellectual I am; this is not a front, it's just how I talk and write. Is there something wrong with how I write? It seems like perfectly legitimate English to me. If my way of writing offends you, I am sorry. I don't like to summarize, it leaves too much room for misinterpretation.

Exactly, everyone has asked a dumb question and gotten hazed for it. It's what keeps you from doing it again. :p

It's just important to remember we ganked him for being an asshole, he just happened to be a newbie. Not the other way around.

You can answer this question by going to college. The smartest people on the planet got that way from research, not from asking questions.
