Michigan Politician and Their Stance on Marijuana

It's something we should all know anyway but especially now with primaries coming up and what not. What is our local politicians stance on marijuana. In this thread share where you are from and what you know about your local politicians. Sadly I am a bad citizen and don't know much about mine.

The primaries are over and now the real games begin. We should hear what the politicians think.

My suggestion is to go to the townhalls and ask the questions that are important to us. Then report back, if not, we could lose everything we've worked for.

I'll start with my next post.

I went to a meet and greet with David Robertson. He is a career politician and the district boundaries are: Waterford, Springfield, Brandon, Groveland, Atlas, Grand Blanc, Burton, Davison, Richfield, Mt. Morris, Vienna, and a couple more.

I mentioned MMJ and his response was astonishing. He physically changed his posture and immediately stated that it was mostly healthy, young people (read men) that just wanted to get high legally that pushed the petition drive to get it on the ballot. AND THAT THE LAW SHOULD NEVER HAVE EXISTED AND AS IT STANDS IT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED!

I stated that it was their legal right and responsiblity to do that. He back stepped a little bit and said that, yes, it was their right but he did not agreed with the way that the state voted.

I was sooo pissed off. I could hardly speak. We worked hard to get this on the ballot and the residents of our state passed it with 64% of the voter agreeing that MMJ should be legal.

VOTE AGAINST DAVE ROBERTSON

Thank you Ganja Girl for reviving this thread, and doing so with some great information. It makes me happy to see cannabis users being informed and involved. Bravo for calling him out on the issues like that.

Thanks.

Disclaimer - I am not an R or D, if anything I'm a libertarian.

For those that want to shake things up, like I do, here is something that will give us a hint of what the R's will do, at least in Oakland County.

The Oakland County Republicans will be holding their caucus Thursday, August 12 @ 7:30 pm at Walled Lake North on Bogie Lake Road. Anyone and I do mean anyone is welcome to be a visitor and mix with the caucus delegates before they are nominated for the slate and then elected. This way we get to see who they are sending to the GOP main caucus, I think in December or Feb. I hear the repubs get down and dirty and I'll let you know if they do. If you go you'll get to roam the halls and see all the sub-caucuses and hear what they are concerned about.

I know that the tea partiers will be there (in numbers) and are hoping to get on sub-caucuses so they can direct the way the GOP runs in Michigan. It is an amazing thing they are trying to do. It's not the repubs taken over the tea party, it's the tea party trying to take over the Republicans. Tea Partiers are expecting to take at least a min of 50 seats in the main caucus.

I'm going to find out about the Dems caucus and go to that too. I'll keep you all informed. GG

The Dems are holding their nominating convention on August 28th and 29th at Cobo Hall. Anyone can attend their caucus, I believe, it is free. Their caucus delegates appear to be already elected, so all we will hear is their speeches and tactics.

I hate going into the D, but I'm going because I care about my country and my rights that seem to be disappearing.

As before I'll keep you informed on what I hear. GG

My promise to you all is to report only on issues that pertain to MMJ. Actually, it was MMJ that motivated me to get involved in the first place.

West Bloomfield Township: There is a Township board meeting on Aug. 23. at 7 pm at the township hall located on 2550 Walnut Lake.

IF YOU ARE A WB RESIDENT YOU NEED TO BE THERE!!! THIS IS THE FINAL VOTE!!!!
They are trying like hell to swing these Pro MMJ members, because without at less one of these changing their vote dispensers will be legal in West Bloomfield Township. Go to the meeting, show your support and be heard.

AGAINST MMJ- Township Supervisor Michele Economou Ureste and Township Trustee Steven Kaplan are working very hard to outlaw any dispenser.

FOR MMJ- These 4 board members are standing up for MMJ- Brown, Farber, Rosenberg and Shaughnessy.

FYI- those against MMJ are quoting facts given by the DEA that MMJ is worth $7,000/lb, that MMJ in the smokable form does not treat pain and nausea, that municipalities that allow dispensers have an exponential increase in crime.

FYI

Oakland County's legal counsel has written a 63 page research document and it is going to be made available to local communities.

Basically, it will tell them how to fight MMJ. There are 3 ways-
1. adopt a moratorium like Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Township, Royal Oak, and Southfield.
2. regulate mmj through local zoning and permits, like Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Roseville (Macomb county), and Garden City (Wayne county)
3. is an attempt to ban mmj to the extent possible by banning anything that violates federal law.

The anti-MMJ power base of Oakland county is starting to mobilize

Anti-MMJ - L. Brooks Patterson, the county executive for Oakland county has come out against MMJ.

Patterson favors a ban. He said that we passed MMJ law saying it was for those who are suffering. Now MMJ businesses are now touting the tax revenues and he thinks that 'it's a fraud'

He really objects to MMJ show at the Silverdome and called it a dispensary event. And I love this quote, 'The camel is putting its nose under the tent, pretty soon we won't be able to drive down I-75 because of the smoke'.
