Maybe a dumb newbie question, but here goes....strains from seeds

man you could read here all day but unless you're pointed in the right direction you're wasting time. Do as @Jus Naturale says and read up on affects of strains, Sativa, Indica, hybrids and also though even though something might be indica it may be completely different high than a different indica… if you're going to be popping seeds I recommend getting the right kind of strain for the high you want but also get something popular (doesn't have to be expensive) thats been around a long time so you can find plenty of info available on it.
That sounds right. I might see if I can get some dispensary stuff to try, that way I can check out the high the strain gives you, without committing to a 3 month grow and not getting what I like.

All this is going to be so much easier once it is legal again...

If going from seed, I can't recommend Master Kush x Skunk# 1 enough (Mr Nice Seeds), check out anything crossed to purple urkle, I really like my Royal Purple Kush, keeper, if you find that indica pheno you'll be in love.
Good for a first time grower? I am bound to make a ton of mistakes before I get settled in, it was that way when I brewed beer. (I got pretty good at it after a while though, if I say so myself...)

From everything you've posted it sounds to me like you prefer indicas (me too). Sativas make me feel paranoid, anxious, racing thoughts etc. No thanks. Many sativas don't really do anything at all for me besides those qualities.

There are so many amazing breeders but an equal amount of SHIT breeders. When you've narrowed it down to a few that sound good you should post in here. There are some we could probably unanimously steer you away from (barneys, greenhouse etc)

I wouldn't recommend a tough to grow stain to you so yea those are good, I ran it my first grow (after not growing for 10 years) Whatever you go with only start 3 or 4 the first time so you don't waste a pack on a possible rookie mistake.

THAT is exactly the effect I am trying to avoid. It was probably the sativas and the effects you describe that soured me on weed for so many years. I'd get tuned up and start feeling lousy....then say to myself, this sucks, why didn't I just stick to beer?

As to the seeds, I am leaning towards this master-kush-x-skunk, given the recomendation I got from Grojak http://www.seedsman.com/en/cannabis-seeds/mr-nice-seedbank/master-kush-x-skunk

but I don't know if that will work, because I would prefer feminized seeds (one less mistake for me to make) and they spec them as "regular" which I take to mean I have to sex them myself.

The grow tent I am looking at is only 3x3', so I think it is going to be a one-plant-at-a-time deal

You are correct about sexing them but it is rather easy and we could help on here. But going with fems could be a good move. Just for the love of god don't do "autos". Yuck.

I don't really mess with feminized seeds so I don't have many breeders/strains I can point you to in the fem area. If you decide on regs. I have a ton to recommend :)

Also you can fit more than 1 plant in a 3x3 for sure. I used to be the king of cramming in plants and getting a nice "sea of green" style garden

Whoa. I didn't know that.....how many plants CAN you get in a 3x3?

And yeah, first time out I think I'll go with indica fems, just to reduce the fuckup factor.

(Your avatar? Sam Elliot is the MAN. Great actor, I loved him in Gettysburg, We Were Soldiers, Lifeguard, Roadhouse, Thank you for Smoking....good stuff)

Grojak, have you any recomendations on a good feminized indica strain? One forgiving enough for a first time grower?

Big Lebowski! lol. Yeah dude is a great actor.

It really depends on your growing style. Some people may jump down my throat and say I'm wrong (happens on here. lol)
You COULD veg longer, and grow one really big plant in a really big container, or you could veg to about a foot high, put them in 2-3 gallon pots and fit in several.

When I first started growing I put a 1000w light in a 6x2 foot closet. 1 month veg then into 2-3 gallons pots. I always fit between 10-15 in there "tetris style" if you will. I just made good airflow a priority and alwayd pulled around a pound outta there. That's only 12ft sq. and you will have 9ft sq. IMO def could get 4 in there no problem.

2 breeders I can vouch for that have fem seeds and many nice indicas are "illuminati" and "Pisces genetics" Both are available at cannazon.

Yes you can run multiple strains. I'm might be a little harder because of variance in strain. On the flip side you will learn faster that way.
I never run autos before. I got a pack of Buddha auto variety pack. Ten seeds range from 60 to 90 days.
I will run 4 at a time. When one is done pop another.

Just have at it And have fun. Try different technique with each plant.

Damn, that sounds awesome...a POUND in 12 sq ft. I was only figuring on yielding an oz or 2...

(hey...I'm also pretty sure your sig line "You can't teach the old maestro a new tune" comes from Kerouac's "On The Road"...)

I should also add that I got away from weed for around 25 yrs, smoking only abt 1x every 3-4 months or so. Now I am pretty much a one-hit wonder, that is generally all I need to get tuned up. Guess I'm a cheap date :bigjoint:

(Now I am doing abt 1-2x a week)
Start by going to leafly (website) and using the explore option, and select the various keywords that you are looking for...

You say you play, so you want a.... creative, euphoric, energetic high... so u select those, see what pops up, tweak a bit here n there, find half a dozen good candidates, then go to attitude, and use their seed searcher to find a breeder that has the most legit genetics of that strain you can find. If the strain has a breeder named on leafly, use that breeders seed.

Each strain has like 4 main phenos i think as well, so get a pack, u may get the short scraggly pheno the first time, and the monster tree with the mack truck buzz on the 3rd /shrug

LOL! Remi Bonceur..... I recently went on a long road trip and listened to the audiobook... (already read it like 10 times. ha)
One of my favorites ever.

Ps... it took a few tries in my little closet, but NEVER under a half pound even the first couple runs. IMO if you can brew beer this won't be so hard for you. I've done both and brewing took more work in IMO. Growing just takes more PATIENCE. :)

Getting the right strain is why I grow my own. Where I live you can't pull strains off a shelf and I haven't been able to meet a dealer who cares about strain. I chose lemon skunk and another after checking out reviews on its effects.

Only the lemon skunk has been successful but when I can I will try other strains. Getting started will teach you heaps as will these forums. Just remember that if you have one grow box you will need to revert to vegetative lighting at the end of harvest to either reveg the plant to go again or reveg to clone a new batch of the same plant.

Good luck.

Ha Ha PATIENCE!

Of all the things a person can be bessed with, GUESS which one I don't have a bit of...

Still, that is good news about the yield. I will strive to get it there. And thanks for the encouragement.

(Remi Bonceur....couldn't remember his name, but they were on that abandoned boat in the SF harbor with his girlfriend...and he was the one that tried to teach his dog to steal paper money. I liked the scene where the narrator go drunk with the hillbillies he was supposed to be riding herd on as a security guard, and raised the flag upside down)

Good site, and I was able to pick around andfigure out a few indica strains that might work. Thanks!

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you were trying to tell me in the third paragraph. :dunce:

Bearing in mind that I have never done this:

I figure to take a few clones off the plants close to the end of the veg period, get them started under CFLs while the originals flower out, then put them in the tent after harvest.

I don't know if this is even workable, but that is the plan. (I am figuring to bite the bullet and use a multi$pectrum LED lighting $olution, so I won't be dealing with MH vs HPS for the different cycles)

Trying to stay covert, even from the folks I am living with.
