Firstly thanks for looking in here. I’ll try not to waffle too much and simply set out the basic aims and principles of my grow, describe the set up and then show you some of the results that have been achieved over the 3 years of working solidly with this method.

Dimensions of the cabinet area I’m using are: Height: 20” Width: 16” Depth: 14”

1.My aim was to grow in a small converted cabinet in a bedroom. I wanted to produce a solid dry OZ every 4 weeks as that’s all I want! This method hits that target and a little more  I wanted to work with CFL’s and for two and half years did just that with no complaints whatsoever. Recently I have seen miniature ceramic metal halides begin to take off and currently have a 70watt cmh bulb running in the box, backed up with 180watts of CFL’s for a total of 250watts. I have a standard PC case intake fan mounted bottom right and a solid metal cased 240volt fan fitted centrally in the top of the case for extraction. A very thin glass ‘heat shield’ is fitted an inch below the bulbs with a 1” gap around the edges to allow cooler intake air to rise up to the extraction fan. Photos to follow will demonstrate this.

2.All my plants are grown from feminised seed and are placed under 12/12 lighting in the box from germination. Around days 18 to 22 the plants will preflower (show pistils). At this point I tie them down and over using LST and continue to train them right the way through flowering so that they finish around 8” to 10” tall max. I have focused on working with strains that I can control within my space. For example, Nirvana Swiss Cheese is a constant in my cab and I must turned over at least 20 of them now, every single one has grown out with no problems and an almost clone like appearance. Other regulars in my cab include Master Kush, Snow White, Lemon Skunk. I do try to keep a good mix of strains turning over.

3.After a couple of years of working with an experimental bottom watering method I am now back to growing more conventionally again, potting up just once, generally around week 5 from germination, depending on available space.

4.I work on a 12 week cycle, most of my strains finish well in 12 weeks total, so with 6 in the cab at all times I average one plant harvested every 2 weeks.

5.I feed just BioBizz Grow and Bloom nutrients, plus molasses and introduce canna PK booster just once at about 3 weeks before harvest (week 9). I don’t use any other additives or boosters.

And that’s about it! Just to add that I’ve been growing weed for about 15 years, and until a few years ago grew conventional large plants under HPS lamps. Having then been busted I decided it was time to find a new way forward, keeping everything as small and simple as I could. Micro growing has proved to be a real challenge and quite a learning curve, but I’ve stuck at it, experimented and refined it until now it’s almost second nature ...... the little cab just sits in the corner of our bedroom, and grows some nice buds 

If you can bear with me I start by adding some pics of the cabinet set up and some of the results achieved over the last couple of years at least. Then I’ll start the thread by describing what’s currently growing in there. Be nice to have some of you along and if I can be of any help or you have any questions please ask away here. Cheers.

This is a nice plan for perpetual grow. How many kW/h do you spend a month for the box? Next grow I will do something more similar to your grow. Now I am growing big Sativa plant but it costs too much. Better is to make small ones but harvest more often. They won't increase your energy bill so much. Which one is Lemon Skunk? I did one in previous grow but it turned out male. So I couldn't witness LS buds :(

he should be using about 100kwh/month including a small fan...about 90kwh for the light itself at 12hrs/day :)

Thanks for the comments. All of those shots are random and chosen as typical of the small size of my plants. I'm about to get the thread started now with current pics. The whole thing runs at just 300watts total and I don't even notice the cost in our bills at all! As I said above this is really a grow for those like me who want to keep things small and can enjoy around an OZ of buds a month....... anyone looking for buckets of the stuff this is probably not the thread for you :-)

OK, currently in the cab are (oldest down to youngest):

Dinafem - Shark Attack (white widow x super skunk) Plant back right. About 2 weeks left.
Dinafem - Critical Jack (critical + X Jack Herer) .... Plant back left, about 4 weeks left.
CH9 seeds - Afghani Milk. front centre .. about 6 weeks left.
Seedsman seeds - Mazari
Nirvana - Swiss Cheese
Nirvana - Bubblicious.

The oldest - Shark Attack is about 2 weeks from harvest, the youngest is a few days old. As said I work on a 12 week cycle, 12/12 from day 1. I aim to harvest 1 plant every 2 weeks on average, sometimes a might get 2 finish close together and othertimes one may need a little longer but it averages out, 6 plants - 12 weeks.

I hope you can see the lighting and the thin glass heat shield fitted in there? Next time I'll try to get a few pics of the little 70watt ceramic metal hallide in there, the 'Powerball' bulb' is amazing and has really supplemented my CFL's well so far.

Here's some pics to be going on with.

Quick question about the CMH bulb:

What fixture have you got it in? Im looking at getting a 150w metal halide floodlight and swapping the bulb for a cmh, would that work?

Looks good:)

Hi MorroN :-) I was actually given the cmh as a gift by a grower friend and I know very little about the technology but I'll ask him for you. I removed 100watts of CFL's and replaced it with the 70watt CMH, the difference in light intensity is remarkable! However, having said that this cab has run constantly on 12/12 every day for 3 years on just CFL's (300watts) and I have had excellent results, the pics below are previously harvested plants under the CFL's only. Having grown under 600watts of HPS in years gone by I can honestly say quality is not in any way compromised under CFL's as I hope the below images prove? I'm a big CFL fan but a few months more growing will allow me to make a proper comparison with the CMH. You can see the bulb I'm using, the 'Powerball', it's full spectrum and is an amazing thing to watch as it fires itself up! If anybody wants, I can grab a shot of the ballast (rear externally mounted) and the fitting (holder) itself?

Thanks for the info. Those nugs look amazing! but tennents super? oh dear oh dear
I always seem to get that reaction to my Super T cans! On the strong side at 9% but I love the taste of the stuff :-) I use them to show the scale of my small, heavily trained plants, a sort of constant comparison. Most of those pics/buds are Nirvana fem strains as I work a lot with them and find that even across strains they grow almost clone like in structure.

Cheers :-)

im Sub'd up son! Those look wonderful congrats on the great growing! I have a few questions pertaining to this? You leave your lights on 12/12 all the time? Even during Veg and Propagation? If so im very impressed with your results and might try that as well. Are Grow Cabs are alot alike in size and bulbs! Are u using 6400k and 2700k at the same time?

Hi hppy2balive :-) Thanks for the comments. To answer your questions:

1. Yes, my cab runs on a constant 12/12 light cycle and seeds are grown on this cycle from germination. The helps me to control the stem size of my plants otherwise I could never contain them in my space. It has other advantages too ..... I can add new plants whenever I have the space (when 1 is harvested another seed goes straight in to replace it. And I manage with just the single cab, I don't run a separate 'veg' cab.

2. Lights. In the cab is a 70watt CMH 'Powerball' bulb, full spectrum, 3 x 2700k 45watt CFL's and a 45watt 6500k 'blue'. I have just found his to be the right balance for me over 3 years of running this cab. All year round, every day of the year it's growing buds for me :-)

supchaka: Thanks for looking in here :-) Pic below should show you my lighting, Don't look too neat I know, but it works. You can see the thin glass heatshield? his helps keep the temps at around 82 when fully closed up.Ambient room temp is 70.

Few more pics as I removed the plants to take the light shot. You can see all the different stages I hope? From 10 weeks down to newly sprouted. The Critical Jack is about 8 weeks so another 4 weeks will fill her out nicely. The Afghani Milk is an 11 week finisher and currently around week 6 from seed, she was fast and showed pistils on day 18! Soon as the Shark Attack comes out she will be replaced with a Greenhouse seeds Lemon Skunk, a favourite of mine due to it's intense 'fresh Lemon' taste :-)

Thanks to all who follow my humble grow :-)

I like the simple setup, I'm probably going to do something more like this after my current grow completes. I'm still going to use clones, but they'll be going straight into flower in smaller containers. I'm probably going to switch to led or induction light instead of my hps, I want to be able to cool it with pc fans. The bathroom fan I'm using is small but still too loud to be stealthy.

Awesome but how do you control odor?
Thank you for the comments folks :-) The whole concept of this grow is simplicity, it's very basic. The exhaust fan is fitted centrally in the top of the cab and exits through a 'tunnel' which is lined with the stuff fitted in kitchen extraction units. BUT there is still aroma in the room. I dont need to hide this from my family (I have pics of my eldest daughter now aged 23 taken when she was 8 or 9 years old standing by cannabis plants in our garden!) my girls have all grown up with these plants around, and this tiny cab is tucked away upstairs in a biggish house, and its the one room in the house where I'm allowed to smoke my weed anyway, so there is generally that wonderful aroma of weed in the room anyway! That said, I'd advise others to always use a CF if in any doubts.

Few more latest pics, taken last night at 'Lights off'. The close ups are of the Critical Jack's buds. I hope to be chopping the Shark Attack (White Widow x Super Skunk) in about a week or twos time. The Afghani Milk has a good 5 weeks left yet and should fill out very nicely in that time.
