Marijuana is much more potent today than in the past...

Fact or fiction? Fox News is running a series of special articles on the issue this week. There is a pot link on their main website.

Now, one of the major arguments seems to be that pot is twice as strong as before. So, where are the massive societal side effects from this super weed? How many people have overdosed on the incredibly high doses of THC?

I am so sick of the misinformation that even relatively balanced news organizations distribute.

Its a fact that MJ is much more potent than in the past... but its still harmless.

I am kind of thinking it is the same generally. It's just that so much study and work has gone into growing and learning about it that the plants today are producing more bang for the buck. We are more in tune to keeping the plants healthy and that effort it repaid back with more potency that the plant can now reach.

Which is it? Is it the same? Or is it more potent these days?

Its one or the other. Can't be both.

Also, better plant health isn't the only aspect that makes MJ more potent these days.

For quite a while now, people have been breeding for potency. They've been taking the more potent plants and have been breeding them together over and over and over. Thats how we've come up with such potency.

Its like a dog breeder who wants a mini poodle (for example). What they need to do is take a smaller size poodle and breed it with another smaller poodle. Most of their pups will be smaller. THEN you breed those pups with MORE small poodles. Repeat the process until you've bred out the largeness in the breed thus giving you a smaller version.

Thats putting it in basic terms... but you get the idea.

id say yes my mom said all they got had like seeds in it normally, she still prefers weed with seeds in it so she can grow plants haha sometimes she'll even ask her dealer to get her a little gino of weed with seeds in it ,

Higher potency pot is more widely available these days but I'm sure there was some bad ass stuff back in the day. There are so many people these days devoted to selectively breeding the best cannabis plants, way more than in previous decades.

I say more potent cannabis is safer because I smoke less of it so I get less of the harmful side effects, which of course are entirely attributed to the inhalation of burning plant material not the cannabis itself.

Its funny to hear older folks talk about how great their pot was back in the day. My friends mom was doing that and I showed her some kind bud
(Dank, nugs , whatever you call great weed) and she thought it was laced because all the crystals.. She got high as fuck

This is your answer. Of course marijuana is more potent these days! Its exactly like GS is saying. The public wants a bigger high, so the growers are going to make it!

I think it's partially true. Selective breeding has definitely spawned some trully mind warping weed. There is more quality weed in the market these days, most likely due to less shit weed being imported into the country. When commercial, schwag weed became harder to get as a result of the war on drugs, people filled the demand by growing it in their closets and basements. There has always been really potent pot around but due to the way it was grown and handled much of the potency was lost. In summary I think weed has gotten more potent, to be sure, but it seems like there is just a lot more quality herb around these days also.

my dad and I have this argument all the time. But after finally smoking some of the herb that I get, he finally agrees. People just use more selective of a process, we have fine tuned our genetics. I think that there was some potent stuff back in the day, but we have higher quantities of it today, and it is easier for us to get it.

Now all we smoke are females. Of course it's better.................

It just means your not smoking a virgin female plant. Males (true males not hermis) do nothing but pop pollen and die. They make no buds what so ever.
