Making my hash with paint thinner(mineral spirits)

I think acetone is the cleanest thinner. Thinners are just plain old alcohol with funky chemicals in it so alcoholics won't drink it. I don't think I would drink acetone either. Grain alcohol would be the best imo. I have smelled plenty of back woods "hash" that smelled like diesel fuel. I always say no thanks.

Actually thinners do not have any alcohol in them; they are petroleum based, which makes them really bad. So "Methyl Ethyl Keytone" does not have Ethyl alcohol in it. :)

Back around 1970 one of my street hippie partners "found" an old-fashioned olive press that has been retrofitted to make hash. After a lot of experimenting and consults with other hippies we came up with our own recipe for pressing hash. I remember using a blender to pulverize the product as we mixed in a pint or so of kerosene or white gas as well as some varnish for color and taste. We would start with 16 ounces of pulverized ditch reefer we bought by the laundry bag. (When we were moving so much of the local reefer we bought/sold as much as you could stuff into a large 50-gallon trash bag, that was called a bale and went for $600-1100). Anyway, we would squeeze the mixture by turning the big wheel on top until we got a drainage through the bottom drain holes. I can't remember the exact process (no wonder, eh?) but it was a lot of pressing, draining and drying. What we considered our finished product was spread out on waxed paper and pressed one last time. I do remember coming up with dried product about 1/4 by weight of what we started with. Anyone wanting fuller instructions is welcome to contact a couple of Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti original hippies; Fat Rat and Bowl Of Cement. By way of context -- Fat Rat was the person who found and set up the U of M chemist who went on to make all that purple micro-dot in '70-72 that so many of us got fat on. BigSteve.
