Hi, Here i have a light im looking at purchasing. Does anyone have any idea how many lumens this would put out? Also its a 125w, is that actual wattage? Or would it be equivalent to a few 100w incadecents? Bit confused as i see compact fluros that are 20w etc but are actually equivalent to 100w. Just wondering what actual watts this light im looking at would put out. Thanks.

Im in New Zealand. Thats the only light available. Of course there are hps etc but i dont think i require one of those for one plant..

I'm telling you, that's a big rip off. You should just get an HPS... you want a few plants anyways, not just one, it could turn out male...

I considered doing cfls from a hardware store but im not sure on what fittings i would require. I would prefer something that i can plug in and not have to wire to the mains! Can you help out fittings? I would use 4 20 or 25w cfls. That would be equivalent to 400w right?

It would add up to 400w incandescent but nowhere near that of a 400w HPS . Incandescent is about the most inefficient bulb out there .

Please do yourself a favor and red up on the types of lights before you buy anything . Don't just listen to one person - research and make an educated guess for you and your set up , budget , availability , and time restraints .

You could use CFL's this time around if it is all you can get and you may find it is enough for your needs . If it isn't , you can always use them for vegetating and/or supplementing another light source your next run .

This should be a good place to start - GROWFAQ

I haven't read through it but I trust it is accurate . I started doing this before the internet but when I was starting out I would of killed for resources like this - especially for free !

looks to me like its gonna be alot easier if i just stick to the light i was looking at originally. I cant use a hps because i don't have room to keep it above the plants at 1 foot all the time. That's why i think cfl will suit me best here.
