Ok if I was without a working water plant in my community (BTW what did they do for water before this plant.) I would do things like drill a fucking well or pump fresh water...... sounds like please do things for us cause we don't remember how to do things for ourselves

It adds too much Chem to the water.... stop filling the Chem tank ..... ffs
rez's are and were always on undesirable land.

when the colonist came over they gave them land plots (rez's ) that were not good for crops or living on essentially it was land that white people would not live on or use because of the soil or water conditions etc

and so they have continued to be problematic because thats how the land is ...it takes a ton of money to fix land problems, like water or soil issues, and because the FNs are already soooo limited on funds and where they go and how they are distributed, its easy to see that the water conditions or land problems become essentially money pits where they can only try so hard before the problems become too much money too fix

but they cant do anything without government permission

thats the problem we have this thing called the Indian Act and it basically takes away every single right natives have even on the rez.
they HAVE TO ask the government before they can do anything about anything or every other one of their "rights" gets taken away

you do know that natives even over 18 if they live on the rez are considered wards of the crown they arent even legally adults ever

Unpublicised costs of fossil fuel extraction. If it were my land, I'd sue those who are contaminating my water supply and make them provide a trucking service- out of their own pocket.

If you had a big water plant ... yeah
They never stated in that article why they needed a water plant in the first place

I live off the land.... I have well water
I get water issues.....

this was studies in school i was going ot be a social worker for aboriginals, advocate and lobby for better rights
i dont claim to know indian act or every policy off memory but pretty much i have been studying everything related to aboriginal policies for the last like 3 years
i was really surprised at what they cant and can do, and i was even more surprised half this shit is hidden and no one knows about it
i admit was really unfair towards native people before i was soooo ignorant i feel so bad, after seeing the truth

i was going to go into more mental health and addictions because thats where i feel more work and help can be done to their rez's
but i would and still advocate for policies and laws

i protested quite a bit
heres me for the cindy gladue case protesting, canada actually went and reopened the investigation
sorry for cropping and blacking out everything, i mean i guess if you really can you could figure out where the hell i was considering im standing right infront of the courthouse lolme.jpg

the water in my old city has so many problems, the rez;s around it no different. the rez's where i used to live VERY VERY close like walking distance like only a street separated them

they fixed our water in the city
but wouldnt cross the street to fix their water.
why?
because the government wouldnt fix it, and the rez's couldnt do anything about it without the government not because they want to rely on the government but because they have to according to law

Breaking news rez takes over their own water supply.... raises funds to get it fixed without govt help.... locals learn how to operate water plant themselves.

once off the rez living on canadas economy you are no longer consider native.
theres a reason some choose to stay and some leave

the majority of native people who do not live on the rez were some way usually affected by colonization either they were apart of the 60's scoop or residential schools
they do not know anything about their native culture aside from that they are savages
the majority of natives who choose to live off rez are completely unaware of anything about themselves, they usually believe everything that the majority of white people believe about natives
this where you see a lot of lateral violence

a casino owned by a native i promise you is not a someone who values native culture or knows anything about it
casinos or gambling is what colonist introduced to native peoples along with alcohol and drugs once they stole their children from them

Fwiw Sunni.

I voted lib because JT promised huge amounts of cash for infrastructure, ( that I hope will put decent water on reserves and schools in those places ) aboriginal education and of course legalization.

As much as I talk about legalization, the education and infrastructure funding is what got my vote. An educated society is a productive society imho, the infrastructure spending should create jobs and help Canadians as a whole.

The Indian act essentially turns the gov Into babysitters and it's wrong, what gets me is that a native person can't even own their own house on the Rez. Home ownership comes with great pride and a sense of accomplishment.

I have always lived in an area that is surrounded by many reserves, I know and am friends with plenty of native folk. Their culture, while extremely different than mine is pretty interesting.

Here's something I learned from a buddy a few weeks back.
Tobacco: never throw it, and if offered to you don't reject it. Quite offensive from what I have been told by a handful of people.

Always learning
