Unfortunately everyone seems to be of the "bigger is better" mentality, everyone wants more buds from their plant than the other guy ... but everyone's circumstances are different.

If I had a dedicated room (fireproofed) for growing then I would fill it with HIDs and end up with pounds to dispose of ... probably end up being a drug dealer :-)

I don't have a huge grow space, and as I own my house I don't want to burn it down with an exploding light accident, so LED's are my choice.

Can't flower with LEDs? My last grow (Barney's Farm L.S.D.) produced 1.125g/watt using LED light and very cheap supermarket quality nutes in hempy pots.

I flower under a single Kessil H150 Magenta LED, although I have 2 lights so I flower 2 grows 5 or 6 weeks apart (perpetual system).

1.125g/watt sounds a lot, until you realise that my light draws a total of 36 watts ... last grow was 40.5g of manicured buds dried to 65% humidity before weighing, that will last me longer than I will wait for the next harvest.

Two pikkies - the second has had the fan leaves removed.

If I had 300 watts of Kessil H150's (8 lights), I know that I would be producing serious weight ... I would probably even pay for decent nutes and really push he gramms per watt ratio.

LEDs are the future and for some of us the future is here.

I'd like to see a 300W LED go up against a 400W Lumatek Boostable Ballast with a new 400W Lumatek HPS bulb "WITH A 20% PAR INCREASE" :) :) :) I'am researching these bulbs as we speak - Here's a LINK if anyones interested??

I am not biased as I have used LED's, I just want to find the Ultimate Setup at a low cost and think these new breed HPS bulbs have the answer...Like I say I would be very interested to see a showdown between these 2 different setups :) - STELTHY :leaf:

They would need a lot more than a 20% boost (especially if that kills the lifespan). A good 300w LED will outdo a 400w HID. Yeah if you want low costs LED won't be your thing, they save you money in the long run not the short (although it isn't hard to apy them off with their first harvest, they just cost way more $ to set up than HID. I don't think anyone needs to pay more than $3 per watt in LED up front, and the best ones for cheap I've seen were about $1.9-2.1 per watt (when you do this math for HID you gotta factor in bulbs and possibly ballasts over 5 years, plus the reflector hood). LED saves money in power not wasted as heat (and more power wasted on airconditioning for that heating) or on useless wavelengths.

Did you own a glow panel? It works. TRUTH
No I don't. But they don't even use 40w of electricity (apparently new ones only use 28w?), in wavelengths that are not quite ideal, with lens angles too wide (if they even have any at all), on 1w diodes run lower than 1w can be. Everything about their technical specifications says they are a complete waste of money compared to say those '240w' blackstars (which are much much better for the money). I imagine they are fine for seedling and very early veg, but not worth it otherwise IMO*(based on the specifications they will actually tell you about).

If I were you I might as well keep it for seedlings, but get more '240w' Blackstar as those are the best LED for less than $300 in my opinion

ok people. here it is in a nutshell!!!!led produces more usable light.hid produces more intense light for penatration!hid produces less usable light but alot brighter for taller plants.and yes i do have a 300 watt led.(it uses 6 watt led bulbs)not 1 watt or 1/2 watt bulbs!these are automotive grade led bulbs.they will veg and flower just fine, make no mistake the quality is still there.been smoking 32 years and i am very picky about what i smoke.i want the best i can possibly get.it as good as what the west coast is producing.havent smoked swag in 6 years, thanks to the cannabis gods and cross breeding.say no to swag.enough credibility. 300 watt led no fans to go out and burn out the led lights.300 watt led 6 watt bulbs $720 usd on internet.room must be set up right for best results.good light,fan,co2,and alot of attention, like a child.any neglect will show.anyone using hid probably want change there mind.seeing is believing.obvisouly the bigger the plant the more it will yield.depending on the purpose led will work just fine.cant teach old dog new tricks i guess.shorter plants for led or sog.the cheap led lights may only be good for veg.as a plant will live under any light.although there is something about the 1000 watt hps that seems to do wonders i am told.this would be the only way not to use led is if using 1000 watt hps.led does not compare.up to 600 watts hps led is in the running of being equivalent to 300 watt led.looking at usable light that each one produces.but dont forget hps throws light alot further for taller plants.
