I'm extremely interested in this; does everyone agree with this statement about being "up front" with the landlord? Is it the landlord's business what you do? Why is it better to be up front with the landlord if everything is legal? When negotiating with a potential landlord, would you simply say something like: "I have a medical marijuana card (or planning to get one). Would you be opposed to me legally growing here?"

Would you even mention the fact that you may later even want to upgrade their power for them?

Lastly, has it been hard (any experiences) finding a rental, while being up front about possibly wishing to grow medically?

I dont care what anyone says I Would NEVER tell my landlord that i grow or even had a doctors note....as far as hes concerned i dont even smoke cigs.....I dont want him to know what im about and what i do or dont do.........I dont know where you guys live but here in cali if i told a landlord i was going to grow in his place that would be the end of that for sure.....no no ill stick to not telling anyone espically the landlord.....theres no way i want him having that kinda info on me just waiting to use it against me down the line fuck that.....

I live in Cali or I would probably share that opinion. I think that it's just 2 different schools of thought. You see the landlord as a person to be feared. I see him as a business partner. I have entered into a contract with him, openly and honestly, and the ball is then in his court. He has nothing to hold over my head. I have now had my grow inspected by two different LEO to ensure that I am within local and state laws.

However, if I don't disclose the truth, then he may FEEL he has something to hang over my head.(And may, if written into the contract) The landlord should be inconsequential in Cali provided a little research is done. There are ads in the paper for rentals that advertise "420 friendly". There are also management companies and landlords that want to do a quarterly(4X a year) walk through to ensure specifically that you are not growing.

My personal situation is that my new landlord knows that I am a MMJ patient and, for quality control and economic reasons, have chosen to grow my own medicine. I was hoping that the rent amount would drop a little in a barter sense but he is very happy to collect his rent and live his life. All he wants is renters insurance(which should be a no-brainer ESPECIALLY if you are growing).

I get what your saying but im thinking realisticly here......Im not going to spend 6months trying to find the one pothead land lord that is ok with me growing ya i could probably find one but the truth of the matter is that 90% of landlords are not going to say " oh you grow no biggie thanks for telling me that makes it all good" thats not the real world man shit my apartment does credit checks and background checks and reference checks and theres no smoking in the direct area around the apartments all kinda rules no way they would be ok with a grow in there or any of the other apartments i lived in....

ya maybe theres an old timer here and there that has a house you can rent and wont care but the majority of apartment complexs arent down with such things and id have to be in an idiot to walk into my apartment office and say "oh by the way im growing medical cannibas in my apartment but dont worry i have a doctors note.....lol i dont know what part of cali you live in but i found the hole idea of what your saying just plain rediculous like i said "na id rather keep my apartment thanks"

Well, I'm an ex-cop. From age 21(sworn in on my b-day, WAY too young now that I look back on it) until 23. I got tired of the politics so I left and went into construction. Land Surveying pays better and you don't get shot at(most of the time). I have a VERY close high school friend who dates a hometown LEO and I, knowing I'm legal in the state, wanted to make sure there was no reason whatsoever that I would wake up at 2am to a potential shoot-out with the notoriously trigger-happy county NET team. My wife and 11 year old son live in my home and I will defend my home against whatever threat presents itself. @ 2am, it's hard to tell what is a true threat and what's not. I invited her(an MMJ patient) and her husband over for a BBQ. We ate, drank, smoked cigars(for him and J's for me) and talked. He blew me away when he valued my plants in my first grow which netted about 1 1/4oz each at $4000 each! I said "Huh?!?!". He is trained to estimate $4000 per plant for prosecutorial purposes. What a bunch of CRAP!

Anyway, he was good with it, spoke to the chief and I have their back number on speed-dial should I ever have a problem. The other officer is my son's best friend's father who works for a local MAJOR metro PD in Fresno Co. Since his son is over at my house quite often, I only thought it proper for me to inform him of my situation. HE came, had a few beers(common thread amongst cops) and checked out the grow. He estimated the same value. So my 4 plants that netted 5 1/12oz dry were worth a total of $16,000 if the DA were to prosecute. INSANE!!! I TOLD him I WISH I could get paid like THAT!

Long story short, I now have several LEO that will back my medical defense in court should the case arise. My current landlord had no clue. I started well after moving here and found no reason to speak up. My NEW landlord knows and doesn't care, partially on the backing of local LEO. They know I'm legit, abiding by state and local laws. And if I EVER have a problem, I will call that back number as soon as it is tactically feasible.

Now an apt is a whole different game and I think this is where our opinions crossed. I wanted to grow in a formwer apt, but the venting and thin walls made it impractical. I never checked with the landlords since I didn't feel I could secure my grow as required by law.

The best part of the whole deal is that I was informed of the Ca Supreme Court decision in Jan 2010 that states than no limit may be placed on the number of plants a patient grows. I was told that real-speak translated that into 99 plants or less, per license.

Most people arent ex-cops and dont have bbq's with the people that have the power to destroy them....Dont get me wrong im glad you got the hook up(im jelous) but most people dont....
Please everyone else dont call the cops and snitch yourself out even if your grow is legal and your honest and moral theres no way i see this senario helping the average growers cause, this just seems to go against everything ive come to know and experence down to my bone.....NEVER TALK TO COPS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8z7NC5sgik His logic is sound i feel using your 5th amendment rights seems to be the best option for normal non law grads. Just like i feel telling your landlord your colas are lookin fat might not be the best advice eather..

My grow is legal(6plants) but that dosnt mean i need to give up my 5th amendment rights ..no dis respect but i wouldnt give your advice to my friends or loved ones that kinda thing could get someone in unessesary trouble that otherwise could have been avoided....

Am i the only one that thinks calling the local law Enf. over for a meet and great ending with a full tour of your garden might not be the best thing??? LOL

P.S. Please dont have your cop buddies come to my house at 2:00am

Forgot what this thread is about...sorry, but something caught my eye about not knowing what is dangerous or what not and just got curious so like a good google bitch i found out

1 fisherman
2 logger
3 Farmer
4 Structural construction worker
5 Air PLan pilot
6 Roofer
7 Coal miner

then I got fucking bored of hitting the next on those stupid top 20 lists. The pilots have guns I guess. I wonder if they counted criminals where they would rank. Some shit is just too crazy it's beyond believe. Somebody steals a car? Let them go...for real. Let them have an orgy and take a shit like that TV show. INSURANCE. But no, they got to chase the mother fuckers and wreck shit because a wrecked pos car is somehow better than a car that smells like jizz and shit. Fucked up. Sorry. brownie

Not if somebody died, then you'd feel bad about it because you're a nice guy.
No i agree they shouldnt be chasing people down at all costs to stop someone because there lic was suspended ..... but do you really expect anything better? ever been to the DMV? SS office? medi-cal office? its amazing anything gets done at all, let alone whats right for society thats just asking way too much..

Very understandable feelings FootClan. My situation is definitely a unique one. Because of my background, I have a different view of LEO than most.

Landlords CANNOT come and go as they please. You have the right to privacy, they felt so strongly about this right they made a special Constitutional amendment prohibiting the government from ever negating this right. A landlord cannot just5 come up and go in your home, they have to give notice first and it has to be for a actual good reason, he can't just show up to snoop around.

Anyone who says landlords can do what they want doesn't know much about being a landlord.

No one needs to know of your grow. On any level. After all it's legal right??? be smart.
Here in Ca. Landlords are faced with having their property confiscated if they knowingly allow a Federal Crime to take place.

ive been in a house getting a search warrent executed and everyone there got taken to jail. they only found a pill out of the bottle with a script in the house and 5 grams of weed along with some paraphanelia. im suprised they didnt. isnt it still illegal to have that many plants even if you are a patient
