JealousGreen's adventure in mycology.. . . . please help

I recieived innoculated jars from a friend, two of the three are totally colonized. I put them in the fridge for 36 hours, then removed them from the jars, and they are soaking in r/o water now. They're supposed to float right?

I intend to follow it up with pics. All the experiences that can be shared will be appreciated. Please sub in and help me out with the questions I'll have.


The thread in my sig also has shroom pics from the dear friend who gave me the jars.

try and put something ontop of them to hold them under water, but yeah they float other wise

What would you suggest earth? I'm scared to mess up the cake.

A Dinner plate... I'm pretty sure the hard part is done so little to worry about. Just keep them moist and humid enviorment and you should be good. Once your done "dunking" them of course

I placed a partially full cup of water above each cake inside the cups they are in. I cleaned the cups with alcohol and let them dry before I used them. Each cake is just below water level. I'll take them out around midnight tonight.

I look forward with great anticipation to the consumption of my harvested fruits. I had an intense dream the other night where a mushroom grew up out of a cake right before my eyes. I picked it off and it turned gold in ny hand. After which I consumed it by placing it against my forehead. At that point the dream became surreal psychadelia. The mushroom has been calling me for about 2 years, and I think it knows the time is near for our relationship to change.

whats the point of putting them in the fridge for 36 hours before dunking? never heard of that neing done before.

you can put them in the fridge if your not ready, it sorta pause's them... sometimes people do it because some species of mushrooms will give more fruit after cold shock, cubensis are not one of these species though

I did what the person who gave me the jars instructed. I guess it was unnecessarily done?

I was told this would help induce fruiting, but I'm also pretty sure I'm working with cubensis. There are pictures of some if them in my bud shot thread... let me know what you think.


My fruiting chamber seems to stay right between 60 and 70 degrees. Once in a while maybe getting into the high 50s. That is acceptable?

yep putting them in the fridge doesn't hurt cubesis, it just doesn't do anything extra. its a step you can skip

Yes. I'm not even sure what 60c would be. Isn't that like an oven on low?

No idea, I think anything under 70 is to low, maybe 65-60 but thats pushing it I would think... but i live in a warm area and dont really have to deal with that someone else could probably give you a better answer

Will the cooler temps make it go slower, or just halt it all together?

couldn't tell ya.. temps stay around 70 at the lowest here. in the house

colder temp will slow it bro high 50 is too cold for sure.. im not sure it will HALT it but def will slow it down. Optimal temp is like 81 but when fruiting its lower like room temp. pics?

It's currently 66 in the room. Should I put a heating pad under the tub? How much light if any should it receive?

Minimual lightening is needed as fungi do not derive their energy from light but it helps to direct the fruits (mushroom) into growing towards one object instead of shooting out all different directions over the cake if I'm not mistaken. 66 sounds fine but not "optimum" it may prolong the maturation cycle of the mushrooms by a day or two but it won't completely halt the growth process.

I was thinking of putting a cloning heat mat under the tub. I figured it would raise the interior temp and humidity as long as I keep the perlite wet. I'm getting a new thermometer for inside the tub today. I figure monitoring interior temp and humidity is probably wise.


Good idea?
