Jade, just wanted to chime in and tell you great job! the foxtaiing is more than likely just genetics and I wish ya could go longer but I inderstamd the early harvest. If you want though, many people do what's called staggered harvests, where you take the upper growth first and give the lower more time to mature. I have done it before and it actually works, not overly amazing, but makes those lower popcorn a much better high!
I agree on the foxtailing being genetic. Some verities start very early like his with still mostly green pistils and others will not try to regrow until almost ripe.

I also stagger my harvest by usually cutting the ripe tops, then let the lower buds go for a couple of more weeks. I never starve my plants before harvest either or give them no water or no lights for days like some do. I think that is just plain inhumane. I wouldn't feed and nurture a warm fuzzy little lamb until it was nice and plump then throw it in a dark box without food or water for a couple of weeks before slaughtering and I won't do it to my MJ plants either!

The macro shots were really very lovely Jad. Little crystal forests.

If you have to take them a bit early, then you might find that the smoke
does not suffer much....I find that stinkiness increases late in some breeds,
but strength and flavor can be very good at seven weeks for some breeds.

Remind me of what day # you are on, the days recommended by
the breeder, and what target you are hoping for. (sorry...kinda out of it)

Good luck,

JD

Thanks guys for all the kind comments! I've improved because of your support. And I'm glad you've kept me company so far!

These seeds where all rated between 8 and 9 weeks. One of them said it should be ready about day 65.
Right now I'm on day 59. I'll be chopping on day 61.

I'm harvesting early because I study abroad, and for the Christmas Holiday break I'm going back home for a few days.
I can't leave the tent turned on because my "landlord" is coming over to feed my cat every once in a while, and I don't want her to hear no strange sounds nor smells.
So I get everything clean and tidy before me and the girlfriend leave the house.

This is also why I won't leave it for a staggered harvest.

As for foxtailing, I'm not concerned. It's not an out-of-hand situation, and the nug feels very solid, so I kinda like how it looks. =P

As of now, the water is coming clear from today's flush, and I'm about to sit back and enjoy these last few days of my babies. It's been a pretty cool grow this time around.

I'm very happy overall.

Once again, thanks for all the love!

So then can we expect some good harvest pictures in a couple of days? Congrats on the nice grow! I have been going crazy with the pictures and macro too... upgraded to a nikon d7100 and a Tamron 90mm macro lens...My biggest gripe on bud macro is that only a small portion is in focus... I have been experimenting with a technique called focus stacking where multiple pictures (I used 100 photos once) are taken at slightly different focuses using free camera software called DigiCamControl, then the sharp parts merged together using photoshop to produce a crisp photo. The only other hardware you need is a tripod. I'll PM you an example..

That was freakin' lovely! You should post it here for them to see!

And yes, you can expect harvest pics for sure haha

As for focus stacking, I've studied it, but I never really used it for weed photography. Will try, for sure!

That image is sublime.

Thanks Jad. I'll post it. I'm still learning with mixed results. I found the amount of focus change between photos is important. If the change is too large then you will get blury strips in the pic... if the change is too small then you have to take a bunch of pic to get the whole focus spectrum.. This one had to have 100 pics... way too many... choked my pc for an hour. If you decide to try it I found that I get much better results if you have the bud suspended in the air instead of laying on something because lying when lying on something you can get background reflections or shadows from the flash. I use an alligator clip and wire to suspend mine.

The bits of web looking things that you see are just dust bunnies, not bugs.

And at last the time has come.
That wonderful time of the year where this lovely characteristic smell fills the house and leaves everybody full of joy and warmth!

(nope, not Christmas)

HARVEST DAAAAAAY!

SO, I've been hurrying around from early in the morning up till now. Chopping, trimming, hanging, cleaning everything up. I even baked the trimmings and made express CannaButter. Can't wait to try it!

Here are some pics:

070.jpg 071.jpg 072.jpg 073.jpg 074.jpg 075.jpg 076.jpg 077.jpg

Finally I've got a harvest with some decent sized colas! Those main colas weighed 24 to 29 grams each. So I'm starting to do something right! haha

It's a lovely sight to look into the tent and see that harvest. Specially knowing it came from an old 150w HPS bulb. I wonder what I'll be able to do next!

All in all, I'm a happy boy. Can't wait to come back from the holidays and have this present to open up! haha

Any bets on final yield? :P

So, we come to the end of this season's grow. I'll be leaving the house tomorrow morning and will be away for about 2 weeks.
I'm not sure I'll be able to check RIU while I'm away, so without further ado,

MERRY CHRISTMAS RIU FRIENDS!
May you have a great holiday time with your loved ones. I'll have you guys in my mind.

And here's to a great year of 2015! :peace::joint::mrgreen: :leaf: :bigjoint::peace:

Take care brothers n' sisters!

84.435 gr after it is dried and clipped off of the big stems!! You have a great holiday too! Let us know how the express cannaButter turned out. I have been making treats from it too, only firecrackers (ground bud, peanut butter and graham crackers). Eating it was a whole new experience. My only gripe was that they varied a lot in strength.

Use coconut oil, much stronger and it will be consistent if you make larger batches. Have a good Chirstmas Jade, can't wait to see final #'s and a smoke report....and maybe a early LED Christmas present for yourself!

Amazing job, gratz!

You did not mention anything about drying/curing part. I'm a bit worried if you will leave those nugs just like that for three weeks they will dry too much and curing will never happen. You can still bring back some smell and flavour into them with something like boveda two way humidipak's but curing will not reset.

Happy New Year everyone!

Thank you for the kind words!

The holidays treated me very nicely. And I treated myself even better yesterday when I arrived and opened my box o' buds! haha

I just took a nice chunk of Northern Lights and threw it into a grinder. Blazed of, and WHAM! WHAT A HIGH!

I was seriously doubting I had made a nice crop this time around from having cut so early, but yesterday I proved myself wrong. That NL was one of the best highs I've had, ever! Top grade, for sure!

A very nice, comforting body buzz/presence. And an awesome balance of super calm & tranquility mixed with some racey trippyness from time to time. The Smoke is still very harsh seeing as it's been drying in a box for only 2 weeks. But I can already see it becoming one of my favorite strains in about a months worth of curing!

Anyway, now I'm really excited to see what the Purple Haze and Purple Trainwreck hold in store for me! haha

Right now I'm weighing everything and jarring for some nice long cure time.

See you soon,

Have a nice sunday everyone,

allthebest :weed:

And finally the results are in.

It wasn't as much as I had aimed for, but it was still a better bounty than last time, so technically I'm satisfied.
Also, I just came out of a nice Purple Haze ride, where I only smoked half the joint with my GF. So I can imagine that when I get to smoking a complete one, It'll kick my brain in the balls. xD

Here are the results:
NL - 26g (nice heavy colas. the biggest ones are around double the size of that Clipper lighter)
PTW - 12g (can't wait to give this one a ride. It was the youngest of the group so it never had a chance to start bulking up as the others did)
PH - 23g (awesome high, racey mind and body tingling all over. Hard nugs, but I'm sure they would have gained a lot of weight had they stayed alive for 2 or 3 more weeks.)
078.jpg

The funny thing is that the NL was the biggest yielder and was also planted in the smallest pot! A 2L pot vs 10L pots. I guess it had awesome genetics! Or perhaps being in a smaller pot changes the watering cycle just enough for the plant to benefit from a nice dry phase... I wonder.

Anyway that's that. I'm happy with my 2.15 ounce bounty. And I'm in love with NL and PH strains already.
Now on to trying the butter I made and the PTW.
It smells sex.

haha

Tonight I put a few beans down for germination. Once they start popping you shall hear from me!

take care brothers and sisters.

I have read NL was a big yielder but dang! What breeder was that from Jad3? Nice haul btw, 2 weeks-ish early and still yielded 2+ ounces of good stuff. Homegrown lasts so much longer than anything else anyway! Great job, what are you popping next?

This NL was a freebie I got from another order I placed. I'm not completely sure about the breeder, though I have a vague idea it was a sensi seeds bean.
Anyway, it packed a perfect body high, not too much couch-lock, just nice relaxation. And a wonderful dreamy calm euphoria trip. It's quite delightful for a nice relaxing end of the day.

I threw a bunch of seeds onto a paper towel, and I'm going to grow them out differently this time. For practice at with new growing conditions, to practice the art of "The Single Cola Plant", and to be able to try even more strains.
I threw 12 beans in, and am going to grow out 6 of them. I'm selecting the best phenos and picking out any males.
I guess this is the first Jad3d Pheno Hunt. Even though it's at a laughable tiny scale =P

Fun times ahead. =P

The germinating seeds are:

-Sleestack
-Sage n' Sour
-Devil's Weed vs S' Stack (my own seeds, which I'm sure will yield hermies, but I'm giving it a chance =P)
-Amnesia Lemon
-New York Power Diesel

I've got lot's of NYPD seeds, but so far I have been unable to germinate them. They are huge, heavy seeds, that have an awesomely hard shell, and I think the tap roots are having a tough time breaking through...

Let's see how many pop and move on to the next stage! Fingers crossed.

I have good luck germinating seeds. For hard seeds like your NYPD try putting them into luke warm water and let them soak overnight first. This will help to soften the hard shell.

I use the paper towel method too... first set a rockwool cube in a plastic container, add a little water, then set a dampened paper towel with the seeds on top of the rockwool, cover loosely and set the container on a heating pad set to med or low. The humid conditions really help. The idea is to just keep the towel moist, not soaked. I used the rockwool cube because it siphons the water up to the towel without soaking it.

Nice! And I agree^ soak them, and even scuff them a bit with your fingernail! I have even one time slightly popped a seed that was just sitting in a Rapid Rooter after being soaked for 24 hours and it dropped to the bottom. Why not do 12/12 from seed with all of those man? Seems like it would fill your space up perfectly as long as you get enough females!

Thanks for the tips!

I don't have a heat mat, but I do have a nice warm TV signal box. I just kept it on these past 2 days, and there's already 5 tap roots showing, 2 of which belong to the NYPD seeds. I'm pumped. I guess they just needed a little warm love =P

And yes, my idea this time around is to make a 12/12 from seed run. I've been reading alot about it, and decided to challenge myself to try and get a nice yield from that style of grow. Let's see how it pans out.

Welcome aboard skunkd0c, it's an honor having you here. Enjoy
