Iso \

In the pic of my old runs...the one with the lighter greener oil was an attempt to heat and whip. It did change the consistency and color but didnt budder or wax up all the way. I'm thinking it wasn't enough material, long enough whip, and/or not high enough quality ( was a 2nd or 3rd rinse I think.) but I do believe alternating on and off heat and constant whipping is the components to make it work but def need to be high quality rinse with no chlorophyl

I will most likely be elaborating on how to make budder/honeycomb with iso oil. I think ISO has such a bad rep due to the unappealing appearance/unstability that is most obtain. In my opinion making the oil and purging the oil are two totally different components. Purging the oil esp ISO oil seems to be a big problem that people have. Like I said before, heat and whipping are involved but each have their place. Count you have some good stuff I like your first rinse..and am interested to hear about the red oil because I have done some research on that and was wondering if that was just strain related or was "sun" involved in your process at all? But until I elaborate more on the methods of making honeycomb/budder out of iso I will say this I only whip my oil once when making honeycomb, Always constant heat(dont fuck with it, no alternating heat), watch your heat..once you reach a certain temp on your oil you will never get it out of that runny/sappy state..the fridge might harden it for a bit but it will always turn back once you have gone that far, and lastly patience is key. Any specific question feel free to pm or just ask..Im not the quickest at responding but will def get back eventually if not answered in the main feed. Peace!

Looks nice man, I havn't seen the honeycomb from qwiso before either. Heres a look at my most recent run next to my rig. I can't find 99% either anymore but have done side by side comparisons in the past and have not seen any difference in the outcome as long as the water all evaps it all evaps. I do a 24hr evap ( when I hear purge I think butane) at very low heat (under 115 I think, I'm buying a laser thermometer today actually) on top of my dehumidiifer. This seems to get me a very nice evap with a clean outcome.

Its got a nice stable consitancy (the pic makes it look real oily, but its like a taffy that snaps when you pull it quick), stays where its supposed to, and dabs very smooth. Different strains I've used in the past came out different textures, but its always clean clear oil. I made some bubba kush oil a few weeks ago, that yeilded huge (over 15%) and is very definitely a nice gooy yellow sap, very thick and easy to dab.

The red stuff was my very first iso attempt if I remember correctly the powder was the first rinse and the oil with the red tint is the second and third rinses mixed then evaporated. They were left out in the sun with a red bandana for contaminate protection. So research says the sun is responsible for the red but I have wondered if the red cloth made a difference.

The one pic I mentioned with the one I whipped was done over a hot water bath with out a thermometer so I had no idea what temp I was working with and I added hot water when it seemed to be cooling down. That is where the alternating heat thought came from. I'm guessing I passed the temp you mentioned is the point it won't get out of the oily state. Would love to know if you find what temp that is!!

Lately I checked back on my oil today and the first rinse has changed color to more of a lighter green color with a more opaqueness to it. not as oily in spots more soft crumbly wax almost. a small peice that was a final scrape, after I took the original pics, I had whipped it without any heat and it came out similar to the other but today looks like soft crumble wax all throughout. I am hesitant to call it budder but looks like the best thing I've made. Pics when I get to my computer.

Yes it is the sun! It has something to do with curing and chlorophyl if I remember correctly. Awsome job count! Your so close and your proof that you really don't need any tools. I obtain mine with a griddle which i recommend because it makes life easy esp for us anxious stoners:). But as you can see patience is a virtue! It's all trial and error until you get what you're looking for..and eveyone is different. Peace and dabb that stuff.

I used to use a portable stovetop to evap but always got to hot even on lowest setting so not I use a heating pad and fan. Much slower but better quality end product. I'm interested in vac purging and how it would affect the final product.

So I am purging my 2nd rinse from the last batch I made and as usual it got to a point where it is milky and there was a ton of oil settled on the bottom. I did some searching previously and found others have the same stage occur and everyone says its normal and it all will eventually evap off (which has always been the case). I find it is what forms the white crystal powder type substance. I decided to pour the milky liq into a jar and continue purgin the oil. I placed it in the freezer 35 mins scraped up in a waxy oil which I spread back out on the dish and purged some more. Scraped up into semi solid state flipped over and is currently purging. Looking quite good tho.

side note:I saved the milky liq which seems to decreased in volume and something has settled on the bottom.

I am wondering if the white powder is actually some traces of iso or if its actually the good stuff. Has anyone tried doing this or any ideas on it. Should I toss the milky stuff

Its called an azeotrope.. if you take the milky fluid on a butter knife and heat it you'll end up with oil

What is the difference between the oil in the pan and what's in the milky fluid? If one is oily and one is powdery crystals that melt into oil is the former have more waxes and such and the milky have a more pure thc.

Id like to see pics of what you are talking about. Ive had milky substance towards the end of evaporation and from what I have been told that was the water left from the iso. Are you in purging stage or evaporation stage? And if it was an azeotrope would it than be a mixture of the small amounts of water and oil substance those being the two liquids? or water and alcohol? azeotrope- a mixture of two or more liquids in such a ratio that its composition cannot be changed by simple distillation. Would need to see before commenting more but is most likely good material..iso definitely doesn't leave major traces like that!

What you need to do is hurry up and put out the purge part haha. Hell even videos!

I too get the white milky stuff, but I always thought it was water as well. It always evap'd away so never really worried about it.

The milky substance appears at the end of the evaporation stage. I have read the same about it evaping off but the parts of my dish without oil have a white residue substance that hasn't left for me. so like I said I drained the milky into a jar which is the only pic I have of it. it seems to change in consistency. I added a little iso to get it out and it is currently evaping now. will let you know what happens. the dish pic is after draining the milky.

Count looks great! And the milky stuff is def water. I even see it in my rig sometimes, the water will start to get cloudy from mass oil buildup. I think its getting powdery or that substance because you are separating it from the rest. It will dry/cure faster because it is a smaller amount. Just my two sense.

I will most likely be elaborating on how to make budder/honeycomb with iso oil. :)

most likely shmikelyyyyyy.

will the secrets ever be revealed? :fire:

im trying my very first run

froze everything. did a few minutes rinse with everclear and straight buds. (i feel i used sooooooooo much everclear just to saturate it :wall:)

im now going to crush up the buds, and re rinse them with 99% ISO. hopefully i get some purty stuff like you peepsas

Yes everything will get covered don't worry. No secrets tho just getting the method down which is easy when explained/ practiced. Freezing everything is good. I freeze my 99 overnight if possible but buds not so much. Ive never used everclear so as to how long the wash i cant say but a few minutes sounds long. I do a 30 sec first wash with light swirl. Dont worry how much you used thatll just be more to evaporate just might have wasted some if you use alot, no problem tho. I just cover my material and a dash. I always break up my product lightly by hand before I do either rinse. Never like to break or destroy the trichs too much tho. I dont mess with it for the first rinse but I will strain with my hands on the second rinse to get it all out. Letting the cold solvent that you use remove the trichs is key to getting just the good stuff, frenchy explains this part very well in his videos on water extraction. Im also curious to the everclear than iso route that you chose to take.
