Is this a russet mite?

The good things is even if you are in a non legal state - you can go to Wal Mart and Grocery store and get Bronners, Canola oil, essential oils, Ivory liquid dish soap, Fels Naptha soap and other stuff to kill mites. I buy essential oils at Piping Rock.com and they usually have sales. Also eBay and Amazon have essential oils or other bugs stuff.

Another supposedly good one and I do not know the right mix is supposedly liquid Aloe (cheap at Wal Mart nears asprins) and liquid Silica which is good for plants.

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=248897

Another one is powdered Silica. You only need to use a tiny amount per gallon of water like half teaspoon or less. Shake it up good.

http://www.mbferts.com/Agsil-16H-Potassium-Silicate-Soluble-Silica-Powder-545.htm

This is a very good foliar or leaf spray for MMJ plants. Silica makes the plants stronger. Foliar spray or also when you water add a little silica. When using as a spray - The silica powder supposedly leaves little jagged microscopic shards that cut the bugs up. Diatemecous Earth does the same thing but it is dangerous for you lungs even food grade DE. Have to spray under the leaves.

I think the powdered silica is also good for fighting powdery mildew. Just keep spraying. It's a war.

Dr. Doom is a few bucks cheaper for fogger.

You might want to check with the local furnace guy about the pilot light. If in doubt, don't bomb. Forbid 4f will take care of the plants but it takes time.

The essential oils and soaps with dogs is probably fine. Pyrethian, not sure.
I love dogs but dogs and cats in the grow will bring in bugs.; You go outside and walk around the yard may also bring in mites,. These little bastards get on everything. I would really try to keep the dogs out. I know.

One that I kind of like for every and even into flower is 1 gallon of water - half teaspoon of neem oil, teaspoon of Bronners Peppermint soap, 5 to 7 drops of Rosemary oil, a few drops of Dawn blue or Ivory dish soap, maybe a half teaspoon or less of Canola oil ($1.00 for 16 ozs at Wal Mart or any stores). If you have other essential oils like Peppermint, Lavender, Cinnamon - throw 4 or 5 drops in. The big 4 in order are Lavender, Rosemary, Peppermint and Cinnamon. Others that are also supposedly good are 4 parts Cedarwood/1 part Lemongrass oil. So probably 12 drops in a gallon of water of Cedar wood to 4 drops of Lemongras. I love the smell of Lemongrass.

If you are looking for top of the line products - this video is good. He talks about stuff like Grandevo or the new biological pesticides that use fungus, spores and other biological killers. The younger dude from Oregon highlights some of the newer top of the line stuff.

This guy Natty G is good for a laugh and he is always stoned or smoking in his videos but he is pretty sharp. Warning about the F word.
Sulfur - cheap and safe. Bonide makes it and he is saying it is good for russets
and well as spider mites.

Natty G again pointing out that everything has Peppermint oil in it. A really good MMJ bug killer is SNS 217 - which is mainly just Rosemary oil. So I always hammer em with Rosemary and Peppermint oil plus a few drops of soap. Say 10 drops of each ina gallon of water. If you have Neem oil, add half a teaspoon. Shake well and as you are spraying but you have to get under those leaves with the spray.

The Bronners I have is Peppermint oil but they also sell Lavender. I got a lot of what I do from this video. Citrus and other oils especially have something called limonene (sp?) and mites hate it. .

Just keep hammering them under the leaves and the areas around the plants - floors walls etc. Try to keep dogs out.
Okay sweet. Well I think you'e answered everything, many many options, love it.
I'll work on keeping the dogs out of the entire basement.

I appreciate all your help man. Should be able to save the crop and end up with some nice nugs, all thanks to you guys.

Hey, was wondering, I get these packets of silica in protein powders, or other supplements, could I drop one or two of these spherical silica balls into the water for same effect? Win they dissolve? Good/bad??

Here is a good video. I always wanted verification that less expensive Green Lace Wing larvae would eat spider mites. They chomp up aphids like I enjoy chips and salsa. I never 100% confirmed that they would also go for spider mites. Lace Wing larvae are like the freaking Terminator.

Skip to 2:14 to hear about them eating spider mites. these little larvae will travel up to 100 feet for a meal. If there is nothing to eat, they will eat each other.

Cheap cheap too.

1.000 eggs $5.95 and take 3 to 4 days to hatch to become larvae.

Also, are "no pest strips" effective against russet or broad mites?

If so I was going to put several around the basement after I'm done spraying
Pest strips are very dangerous and toxic. Not good for the dogs and you.
Bad enough so it could kill you and your dogs or cause cancer.

Guys use them in tents but I would not. I would spray every day with oils and soaps before I use those. I would stand in a room and spray with avid and floramite before I would use pest strips.

Forbid 4F is 10x times safer.

If you want a hang around thing in the room - look into companion plants like chives, cilantro, garlic and others. Mites hate them. Another idea is a sucker plant or a decoy. Spray all your MMj but have a decoy non mmj plant you do not spray. Let them flock to that plant then spray it.

You may be in a non-legal state but older ladies and men who grow roses, tulips, veggies have to deal with spider mites. Go to a nursery and ask them about a companion plant to keep spider mites away. You might be able to buy some small garlic plants or other things for a few bucks.

https://www.planetnatural.com/pest-problem-solver/houseplant-pests/spider-mite-control/

I laugh at know it all stoner "master growers. A lot of old ladies growing roses or vegetable gardens know 10 times more and have been fighting mites for decades,

Oh okay, didn't know those strips were so unsafe. I'll pitch the one I got. Just got some nuke em in the mail today. Next up is a spray with this Dr earth stuff tomorrow and nuke em this weekend.

This Dr earth has I believe all the oils you mentioned. These oils and citric acid fights against russet and broad mites too and not just spider mites right?

Those Hot Shot and other pest strips are bad news. Some guys use them but it is a very bad and toxic idea. It will kill the mites but the vapor, even from the basement to the house, could get upstairs and make you and your dogs very sick.

Nuke Em is good. I think you can also use small amounts, like Big Time Exterminator, when you water say once a week to protect from Root Aphids. Yeah they suck too.

Dr. Earth stuff is good too. All essential oils. You should be good to go with those two.

In the future, you can buy say the top 4 oils listed on the label from Piping Rock or ebay or Amazon. Add a few drops of dish soap and you will save a lot.

Maybe 6 drops of each oil and a few drops of dish soap (maybe Ivory) in 1/2 to 3/4 of a gallon of water, shake and you will have Dr. Earth for a year for about $25.

You spend a few bucks up front for bug killing stuff but you have it on hand so you are ready to attack them right away.

Not sure if this is a myth or not, but I overheard 2 guys talking a guy beating broad mites by playing trap music in the grow space. He saw the signs and was able to complete his flowering cycle by playing some guy called 69 or something.

So I scoped again after looking up pics and watching videos on just broad mites, so that I could get a good idea of what they look like under some magnification.

I looked at the upper main stalks around node areas where preflowers are coming in. F****** INFESTED. All up and down the main stalks, under the hairs of the stalks are endless amounts of broad mites. Greenish see through oval shaped, so many that they had to have been standing on top of each other too. It was unbelievable.

So now for an infestation of that magnitude, will forbid, nuke em, essential oils and an occasional neem spray be enough?

I was planning on the essential oils tonight, but I've only sprayed forbid once on Sunday. Should I spray them again with the forbid before moving on to something new?

My biggest fear here is not completely eradicating them and them coming back after a few months as resistant "super mites"

Forbid takes a few days to work. Do the essential oils ASAP. Get under the leaves. Even with a table spoon or 2 of Canola oil and 1/2 teaspoon of Dawn or Ivory soap per gallon of water. You can spray forbid on top of the leaves but oils or oil/soap has to get under the leaves and soak em good. You might want to use Nuke Em next because it supposedly kills Russets and broads. Did you get Nuke Em or are you waiting.

After this harvest you will need to 10 to 15% bleach to water the room a few times. I also hit it with 30% alcohol to 70% water. I do it a few times. Guys go on about super mites but the technology just in the last year with fungi, spores (BotaniGard MaXX), yeast and other things has advanced a lot. Even soaps and oils plus old stuff like Pyrtehian and sulfur will suffocate them.

You can come back with Forbid about 10 days later.

I already got the nuke em. Haven't used it yet though.

I'll add the canola oil and dawn blue dish soap to the oils mixture that I have and spray that today after I get off work. And I'll get looking for all the essential oils you mentioned so I don't have to pay 10 bucks a bottle for the stuff I got.

I have a two gal sprayer with an angled wand so I'll be able to get under the leaves good, I soaked 100% of them when I sprayed with forbid but I have heard you only have to spray the tops, just did the bottoms too for added assurance.

Lastnight I began cleaning out the entire basement. Dogs kennel was moved up stairs and they're no longer aloud down there. By the time I'm done, the only thing that will be in that basement besides some grow supplies and equip will be my washer and dryer. Not even keeping dirt down there anymore, it's going out to the garage. Basically going to make the basement nearly bare, then spray and wipe down everything. I'll probably get a pair of shoes too that will only be used in the basement.
I will win this war.

Sounds good. Yeah - you have to keep things pretty clean and dogs (and humans) can brings bugs in from the outside or anywhere. I once saw a grow room setup and the young guy kept it incredibly clean and organized. Most people will not show you there setup for good reason even in a legal state. The less people and fewer people know anything, the better.

The Dr, Earth probably cannot be diluted into the 2 gallon sprayer. You might want to do Dr. Earth tonight and then do Canola oil/soap tomorrow. Forbid is the best but it takes a little time.

Yeah I finished taking basically everything out of the basement and cleaned it tonight, haven't sprayed it down yet though. I'll do that tomorrow. Tonight I poured the two bottles of doctor earth into the sprayer, about two tablespoons of neem and a few drops of dawn soap. Oh and I poured a few cups of water in too for adding the neem oil since its fairly thick. Barely had enough to finish the plants. The last 5 didnt get as much as the rest but I probably over did the rest anyway, there's a small chance that on the last plant I may have not gotten a small spot or two on the underside. I focused mostly on the bottoms of the leaves. Honestly I guess now thinking about it, I probably covered every leaf of all of them. I was pretty thorough. I would've added the canola oil but I don't have any at the moment and was way to busy to go to the store.

So I'm suspecting possibly a couple hermies. Will all these sprayings and stress from the mites cause that?
And also can male preflowers open and release pollen in the veg stage?

Usually what happens with herms is a light leak in flower. Light, even a small amount, can sneak in during lights out and it confuses the plant.

In flower you are 12 on and 12 off. This is when light leaks can cause problems - veg is not an issue. In veg you can go 18 on and 6 off or 24 hours on.

This one is beyond my expertise. Maybe post pics in a new thread asking if it is herm and possible reasons.

Bugs and spray, as far as I know, would not cause that. Did they come from seed or clones?

You may want to look at them later tonight or tomorrow. I would guess you probably killed the mites. Neem is supposed to kill the eggs. One or more of those essential oils may also get the eggs.

The thing is, as good as you did you job, if you did not get everyone - they can come back later. After this harvest - lots of spraying in the room and cleaning.

The Forbid stays in the leaves for about 25 days so you should probably be fine for now. The Nuke Em can be used up to harvest day so you keep that in reserve. I would probably do Forbid again 14 days after your first spraying.

When are your predator bugs coming?

Ok guys, got a few more pics for you to diagnose.. I still don't have my scope yet (mail) and I got the peppermint oil, but I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to wait till the end of lights "on" to spray it to avoid sun spots?

I can't tell, but I think I might be able to see a mite? If I zoom in on the second to last "V" vein towards the tip? It almost looks like there's multiple? The vein looks kinda translucent scraggly, almost like there's more but I just can't determine without a scope??...
IMG-2978.JPG IMG-2929.JPG

I cant remember who, but one of you guys suggested russet mites do to the discolor of the main middle vein from yellow/green to brown?...
IMG-2969.JPG IMG-2971.JPG
Then I plucked this leaf to get a better view front and back...
IMG-2974.JPG IMG-2975.JPG

Here's one without the darker vein for comparison...
IMG-2970.JPG

And also I'm wondering what you guys think about these spots, are they from the mites? Or is it septoria, some fungal thing?

Any suggestions welcome, advice always appreciated!

I cannot get the pics to enlarge. It looks like a brown vein in picture #3 is russet mites and the healthy one below that looks fine.

If you have peppermint essential oil then add about 9 to 10 drops per gallon of water and add 3 drops of Dawn dish soap. If you can get Ivory white dish soap ($2.87 at Wal Mart for a big bottle) or Fels Naptha Soap then add it to a one gallon sprayer and shake. Use those instead of Dawn.
You can get a 16 oz bottle of Canola oil at Wal Mart for $1.00. Add a half a teaspoon or a little less to the mix.

Spray under all the leaves then turn the lights off. Let sit for 45 mins to 60 minutes then turn fans on.

I cannot understand people who try to grow MMJ. You tell them to turn the lights off to avoid the lights burning the leaves and you get excuses. They think they might have mites and they drag their feet spraying for mites. What is the old saying about people being stupid and they shoot first and ask questions later? When dealing with mites - shoot first and ask questions later.

The mites don't give a shit - they are destroying the plants while supposed growers drag their feet in doing something. Spraying will not hurt the plants. All growers should have a $9 bottle of Neem oil, if not, then do something else.

If you do not have $9 then make some Fels Naptha Soap on the detergent aisle in every store for a $1 plus $1 for a chees grater at Dollar Tree and a jar. See below. You have to grate it, add water and heat the water up. If you leave it in the sun it will probably get hot enough. This is the soap great grandma used to get stains out and wash clothes. It will not harm your plants but it will seriously f**k up mites.

http://www.hansenfamilyfarm.com/blog/make-your-own-non-toxic-insecticidal-spray-soap

I trained some guy on a growing system. The system was taught to me that cost me some serious money.
It is consistent and as the dude who taught me said - "I could teach a retard this." I showed this younger guy what to do - I told him he needs to drip 5 to 6 times a night because it is a coco mix. I told him over and over and over. His yield is not what it should be and my guess is he under watered.

Powdery Mildew? Tea Tree Oil, Clove Oil and Rosemary Oil. Rosemary will also kill mites. Clove may help kill mites. tea Tree not sure - I would add rosemary, peppermint or lavender with the Tea Tree.

Sorry if I sound like a prick but I have seen too many videos on you tube with spider mite webs and lazy people with dirty grows. One guy holds himself out to be a talented grower. He takes a hedge trimmer and electric chain saw and cuts down a whole room of plants because he or his friends were just lazy.

Spider mites or Russets will jump all over your shit in a few hours if you are not paying attention. They are relentless little pricks. I have spent countless hours on the web, youtube, asking people, going to stores, reading probably every mites spray bottle you can think of to battle these little shits.
