Is Obama Cleaning House and Raising the Price of Weed?

MJ is like anything else, and all one has to do is follow the money. Contrary to popular belief, Washington is NOT stupid. It is all about the money. Obviously there is more money to be had by keeping pot illegal, or you can bet your ass it would be. SOMEBODY or many somebodies are making money by it's illegal nature.
The "war" on pot has made law enforcement and corrections such a huge machine that the impact of legalization on that front alone would be devastating. Obviously they have weighed the pros and cons of legalization and taxation, and find that the money generated from that would be less than it is now.
It has nothing to do with common sense or the will of the people. It's all about the Benjamins.
You forgot about one other thing. The power it gives them to keep such a large police state.
I think that the current administration has added 140,000 federal workers, when the private sector has lost millions. How many of those workers are HS or DOJ?

Well, it is a shock to see raids in California on clubs.

I am not sure what is going on but I am trying to really see what is happening and why.

One of the aspects I am considering is that our Cannabis is showing up in places like New York and if so that is a clear violation that the Federal Government has a right to act on.

But another possible aspect is that President Obama is adjusting the Cannabis market and the effect will be to shore up the price of weed which has fallen this past year and could fall even more with a larger supply.

Is it possible these raids will keep the value high?

Will the little guy make more money after this is done?

Sure Obama will look tough on crime and pot but will it also beef up the price of a zip?

I welcome your thoughts.
Closing 16 clubs out of several thousand does absolutely nothing to the price of bud.

Here is a Canna-business that is not afraid.

Have a read and see who is left standing and why.

Rapid Fire Marketing: Medical Cannabis Management Not Affected by Federal Changes

Those businesses will ultimately be what preserve medical marijuana in the United states. The government doesn't give a fuck what stoners have to say. You're opinion doesn't count to the federal government. The only thing that counts to them is money. And guess who has money? Canna-businesses. If they unite under this FED pressure, they have the power to affect real change on the national level. Your voice does not. This isn't a democracy. The only thing that can bring us real change is money. A cannabiz lobby.

That's because stoners will not unite. Many professionals who indulge are doing so "in the closet", and coming out in favor of MJ could effectively end their careers. The middle class (whats left of them) fear ostracizing. Imagine if all pot smokers got together and had a legalization lobby in Washington.

Jack has a good point and Dan, we must realize we are moving, or should I say, being pushed backwards.

Never mind the nit picking and let us unite.

Even if stoners united, the government wouldn't care. We may have limited democracy on the state and local level, but our federal government is not a democracy. Public opinion isn't the most important factor in determining policy. ~75% of Americans agree that cannabis should be legal for medical use as well as most oncologists. Campaign contributions trump public opinion just about every time. An organized well funded lobby is what can bring change at the federal level.

Now you are into the Politics forum stuff Dan. This is the legalization forum.

Do you have any news to share with us on how the raids are going?

Maybe you can list the ones already shut down.

I am discussing how medical marijuana can be made legal. Perfectly relevant to the discussion.

They haven't happened yet. I don't have any personal interaction with the clubs being shut down. But what I can tell you is that the many dispensary owners I know aren't the least bit worried about this. However they are considering pooling their resources together to fight these raids.

I read Colorado had one too is that true?
I've heard that but I do not have any facts about that specifically. I do know they shut down Montana and are trying to do the same in Michigan.

All the dispensaries I know are currently buying up as much product as they possibly can. A dispensary owner who is worried about getting shut down doesn't buy up a stockpile of buds. They are not at all concerned with the FED shutting them down.

two facts: hundreds of letters have gone out to cannabusiness' landlords giving them between 10 and 45 days to close up shop or face forfeiture of the property and criminal prosecution - they warn that if you have not received a letter yet you should not feel at ease. also, the IRS has ruled that cannabusinesses are 'trafficking in illegal substances' under an anti-kingpin law and cannot deduct any expenses from their taxes leaving them with little or no profits. i think that we will see a rapid decline in the number of shops..

this has all been going on since day 1. :)

if not this threat then another. this isn't the first time "letters" have gone out. clubs get raided and closed every day, they always have. this is nothing more then a boost in media coverage during the onset of an election campaign.

Hundreds? As far as I'm aware there have been 16 of them. Where did you get this information?

thanx ford442

So it's starting and the fact that it is advertised means that any landlord will want to evict any cannabis people in my opinion. business or not.

Moving backwards.

Dan you are nit picking. It's at least 16 with hundreds of shops who are qualified to receive letters if they have not already.

So hey, friend why not avoid the fight stuff?> Relax and lets chat.. Let us Unite.

That is accurate for the most part. The purpose of this is at least partially to make landlords fear renting to 215 tenants.

IMO these raids are more political theater than a reality. But the fear created is real and does have an effect.
