Is LED the only realistic way to avoid POLICE detection?

I was under the impression that LED's suck balls for growing.
My 120w LED produced the below plant with a basketball sized root system in 35 days (from seed cracking) and cost me about $4 in electricity while doing it:

Needless to say there is a lot of misinformation out there about current LED technology. Feel free to drop by my journal for more info.

check out http://www.ledgrow.eu/ it is a great website run by this guy expirimenting with leds. he has all his grow ops dated and pictures of his setups and everything. theres even a DIY section if you want to try it out for yourself. if you look at his first few times growing with leds, and the amounts were pretty skimpy, but now that he knows how to do it correctly he is growing his plant hella fast and effeciently, using only 60 Watts of power for a 3x3 foot area with 24 plants and they grow like crazy. Not to mention hes not even done expiramenting with them. Just like brick top said, its all about having the right equipment and the right know-how.

I have seen some grow journals on here that look amazing with LEDs. If you have enough money, why not try LEDs? Everyone hates on them but some results I have seen show otherwise.

they are a good idea if your really that concerned about heat... but there are some good alternatives to the heat issues without going the led route, like air cooling the lights and running the vent in to your hot water heater vent is a good way of getting rid of excess heat without raising eyebrows, if you have say a 2-3 bedroom home then 2400 watts is within the safe zone, generally figure that for every bedroom of the house you can run 1k worth of lights and be under the radar, only go with led's if you are doing a small personal garden as you willl not get the large dense nugs you will with an hps, but yeah a few 600's is not really enough to raise alerts at the power company so just pay bill on time every month and you will be good

That's good vegetative growth. Now what's the budding like?

Spike TV has that show DEA. Someone informed on a grower and so they used FLIR to get a warrant. The cheif said in his 16 years he'd never seen anything like that (pretty much a normal high tech basement grow). Anyway this was Detroit and the cops were even saying they are positive these grows exist all over the city but FLIR is just too expensive to go around checking out house by house. They didn't even try to take a few extra minutes to scope out the rest of the block. Without telling anyone, paying your bills on time and ALSO using IR BLOCKING sheeting to cover your grow area will for sure keep you in the clear.

Becareful venting humidified air under your floor boards or into your attic... that will just cause all sorts of problems for the structure of your home and promote mold growth. If you care about what were you live that isn't the best idea. This is my idea that I've seen others use on this forum : duct your exhaust tubing to a window AC unit. You take off the front and adapt the tubing to where the rooms air is supposed to vent out through. From the outside it just appears to FLIR that your AC is running even if its not.

best idea i've seen yet was an exhaust vent coming from a basement grow going out of the house and into a compost bin.. the compost gives off heat while it also blocks most of the smell.... needless to say there is a screen to keep bugs and litter out of the ducting but it's pretty sneeky

Last month in High times they did a review in controlled inviroment to see how LED fares to HID MH and HPS. Pound for pound (or watt for watt) the LED did better. They work great. They do it with almost no heat. They used the UFO from HID Hut. The main problem with LED is the penetration. They don't always have enough light to reach the lower part of the plant. They do work and they work great. They are expensive though. If money is not an object then use them.. I want to make the sitch and get the Supernova enhanched spectrum but it's freaking expensive. So until then I just use my T5HO and they do good enough for me. I just grow for me and they do the job nicely.

Just get last month high times and see the comparison and read a controlled study. they used the same resevoir, same room just sectioned off. We can all debate it all we want but only actual testing will prove anything.

hey as far as the lights and an electric bill being the reason you get busted. the chances are slim to none. unless light leak lets the whole hood know what your doing...but think of it this way...i run an hps 400 and a 600, 2 100 hps, and 6 2 tube floros. 4 ft each floro. i pay like 350 a month in electric bill. the houses that get busted because of electricity use have bills that are up in the 5000 dollar a month range....i beeen running 1200 hps for 2 years strait now and ive not had an issue.....the one thing that had me worried was when i was into flower with 60 plants and you could smell it from 20 feet away from my front door...it costs me 4 dollars to run my 400 hps for 12 hours a day. 4 bucks a month...it costs me 8 and change to run my 600...just pay your bills and watch foot traffic and be cool with your neighbors you wont have an issue....\
how can they tell if im running a refridgerator or a 600 watt lamp...
we are allowed to grow plants indoors, just not pot...but whos to say it has to be pot your growing....good luck man

The price of LED is coming down - and the efficiency is increasing. A regular household outlet will allow a draw of approximately 1600 watts - that's your 15amp breaker.
Same as your curling iron, micro wave, blow dryer - what have you.

Unless they can 'see' the the light-leak from your HPS - I don't think electric consumption will trigger - as long as you pay the bill. AC and electric heaters draw tons of power.
The good thing about LED is that the usable spectrum for the plant is emitted, and less for the rest. If energy was free - we'd probably all use HPS.
Don't think someone is sitting looking at your electric bill.
Back to the subject of your thread. No - you will get arrested, or not arrested based on what you do. Not if it's done with LED or not.

- and I grow with LED

I was concerned about heat detection solined my room with 2" foam insultion that they use in cavity wall, its bomb proof!!!!

i'm more concerned with an exhaust venting to the outside than i would be about them seeing one room as hotter....

but you can never be too safe... unless you look dorky ;-)
