I dont know about you guys but when i go into a hydro store nothing is ever mentioned about weed herb marijuana or any other slangs but it seems that the person helping you knows what your growing and you assume they know.

One example is when I went to a hydro store in Edmonton and the guy was trying to sell me a big ass fan he said something like "its worth it to spend the couple hundred on the fan if your heat builds up too much you lose all your plants and your harvest is worthless"

Whoa buddy my tomatoes aren't worth that much :-P haha. Makes sense though unless your a commercial business there is very little practicality or profit in growing your own veggies. Especially when your a 22 year old male haha

Another example is when a chick was helping me and she was pretty young as well she was telling me about hortilux and telling me how they are worth the extra money and that she wouldnt go back to any other bulbs. I assumed she was growing weed even though she never mentioned anything to make me assume that.

What do you guys think? Do they know? do you care? Do you tell them?? If the hydro chick asked what i grew i would just say weed, i dont know her she'll probly never see me again. But she didnt ask so i didnt tell

They all know whats up, i dont know anyone who goes and buys all sorts of equipment for tomatoes
one guy told me he made his own nutes that supposedly increased trichome production and that bloombastic was his biggest competitor

Truth be told... There are thousands of hydro stores popping up around the USA.. Fact: Your local hydro store sells more stuff built in America than Home Depot!!! Ya, I will pay a little extra..

In my store they know exactly what you are up to, and when someone goes in legitimately to buy equipment to grow tomatoes or the like, they are aware that those people are the exception. Its not a good idea to talk about weed openly in the shop and if you ask me it is best to go early in the morning and dont hang around longer than needed.

I try to never mention anything cannabis related in a grow shop but I have slipped up once. I've been shopping at head shops for 15 years plus so I already know the deal with not mentioning anything weed related or even refering to a water pipe as a bong and other things like that. They've tried to kick people out of head shops in the past so I just figured the hydro stores are the same way. I'm stoned whenever I go there, so they probably know exactly what I'm growing, but I avoid mentiong cannabis or anything like it and they never ask what I'm growing.

One of the shops I used to live by was definitely run by stoners. I went in once and there were three guys in there "working" and they f'n reeked of pot like they just finished clam baking before I walked in, their eyes were droopy and bloodshot, they couldn't have been more obvious. One of the newer shops in my city is my preferred store and the owner is definitely a pothead. He looks ripped every time I go in. he's super laid back and chill. You can just tell. And that was the shop where I slipped up once. They had someone in for a product demo and I was listening so I could get some samples, I mentioned to him that I was a little familiar with their products, he asked how, and I replied that I followed a grower on xxxx forums do a test for them. The website name is obviously a cannabis site, so for a second I panicked a bit, but they didn't even bat an eye.

Most grow shops won't talk to you if you mention growing weed because it is illegal. Like how head shops say for tobacco only on there bongs. But if your a medical patient with your cert or card that's different. Not only will our shop talk to you about growing weed they give you a discount. But cmon we all know what these shops are there for.

Cultivation is illegal in most places, the shop I go to actually has a sign on the wall stating that they cannot discuss MJ cultivation as it's illegal. That being said once you get to know the guys it's a different story, discretion is key, if there are other clients around don't discuss what you're up to.....

i tend to avoid the hydro store whenever possible
overpriced products that you can find online/ elsewhere much cheaper .. with a better selection too
also the security implications of these places ... you cant really trust these hydro store people .. sure some seem friendly
and on rare occasions offer good advise .. i still think it is best to avoid these places they are dodgy bastards most of them

until quite recently many hydro shops would of been selling clones on the sly for £4-6 each
so yes, they know what the equipment is for LOL

peace :)

Ya'll must have some awfull hydro shops around you! Yeah no shit all the hydro store employes assume your growing weed. I'm natraly paranoid after being jumped afew times and every time I drive home I assume sombodys following me so I do a series of things to make sure it's impossible for sombody to follow me. So pretty much I can run my mouth at the hydro shop till the cows come home, nobody's gunna be able to follow me without me noticing and if I notice your gunna have some much worse problems to deal with.

I stay away from the local hydro store here. The owner is a Narq and is known to work with LEO. The only things I have purchased from there were purchased by "normal" people who had nothing to worry about. A friend of mine did 3+ years in prison for cultivation after the owner led LEO to him.....

So you are paranoid. Because you are paranoid you talk about what you do... because you know your paranoia will keep you safe....

My local hydro shop is all about catering to the needs of medical marijuana growers. It's not "don't ask/don't tell" at all. It's very much above the table, not growing "tomatoes", we're growing _cannabis_ and we get equipment, nutes, and advice for growing _cannabis_. They know their business would be nothing without the legal medical marijuana growers.

Same type of liberation with the smoke shops around here. A bong is a bong. I can go to a smoke shop and buy a bong for smoking marijuana. Not that anyone "smokes" anymore. So our vaporizers aren't for "tobacco and other herbs", they are for marijuana and/or hash oil.

We get a discount if we show our state-issued MMJ card.

The problem is, my medical needs take all the fun out of this, so I'm not really enjoying the liberation all that much. I'm over it, and I'm totally done trying to pretend I'm not doing what I must. I am endlessly grateful that I don't have to hide it, at least from the grow shops or the smoke shops.

my hydro store owner is a complete legend.
really professional neat tidy store. always helpfull advice this guy knows his stuff.
he knows why i am there and we have had in depth discussions on the subject. he doesnt grow or at least thats what he says but i believe him he doesnt come across as the type and his store supplies a lot of large hydroponic vegetable farms and stuff. he always gives me great discounts on every purchase.

interestingly enough too in a country where mj is illegal no ifs ands or buts he is really cool with the subject, his son had cancer and was lucky enough to make a full recovery and i get the impression one of his other mj related customers may have been helping him with cannabis tinctures and i think this may have given him a soft spot for his small time mj customers

Here is a better question...we always assume that the people that work in headshops are potheads, but we don't assume the clerks at the ABC are alcoholics...we don't assume the gas station attendants are huffing gas...but the hydro store people most assuredly know what you are growing, and even if they don't it doesn't matter...I see a guy a lot in my local hydro store that one day he was talking about his plants, and he was carrying 2 really large t5 bulbs, and someone asked him what he would say if someone asked him what the bulbs were for, and he took just a minute, and then smiled and said, well it's grass...you know that grass that rich people try to put in all their food, what's it called, oh yeah, Wheat Grass...I'm growing a lot of wheat grass...Lol. So yeah, they know what you are there for, even if you call it tomatoes...lol.

My local smoke shop has a sign that says you can't say certain words or they can't sell a piece to you, and that reading the sign out loud also counts.
