Thank you, CJ. What you touch on is concerning semantics, and they are part and parcel of spin and perception. We could go off on one hell of a tangent about words as symbols.

I enjoy debate, I don't enjoy conflict. I enjoy having my own beliefs and perceptions challenged, and on more than one occasion have changed my stance (for example, regarding hate crimes). I also enjoy challenging others, I enjoy guiding them through their own reasoning, as I think it helps me understand them as much as it helps them understand themselves.

Then there's this issue of that gate that's supposed to be (under your control) between the brain and the mouth. My gate is usually wide open, and I usually say exactly what comes into my head. This is NOT a good thing many times, especially given the timing of some of my outbursts. Then, as I get older, I have to force myself to keep my mind open to others' ideas and opinions, not be so quick to dismiss if it doesn't make sense initially. The interwebs allow me to chew on things for a bit, or make sure that I've framed my words as well as I can, and in this regard I feel we have an advantage.

Did anyone catch that program on body language on History Channel a few nights ago? FASCINATING.

Oh, you're so like that, and they're so like that, oh yes yes. commiserate commiserate, yes yes. :) :lol:

I just don't know a single man that would be willing to fondle a dead mans penis in order to cut off his foreskin. The bible is a really sick novel.

I still don't know any men who would walk up to a dead guy, pull out the dead guys penis and cut off the foreskin. If anyone knows someone who is willing to do it, run away, they're psycho.

A surgeon was retiring from his long and rewarding career as a specialist in circumcision. Throughout his career, he had saved the foreskins of his patients in specimen jars as momentos, and now wished to fashion them into a souvenir.

So he brought his hundreds of specimens to a leathersmith, and asked him to craft an article of fine artistic quality. "I'll see what I can do," said the artisan, "Check back with me in one week."

The surgeon returned one week later, eager to see what magnificent article the leathersmith had made for him. The leathersmith presented him a wallet.

"All those foreskins and you only make me a wallet?" exclaimed the surgeon.

The leathersmith replied "Yes, but if you stroke it, it becomes a suitcase."

I don't know what direction this thread went but this is my thoughts

I'm for gay rights just like I'm for pothead rights.. how can we get discriminated against and still wish to discriminate anyone else.. but I also believe that political correctness is destroying free speech. So believe whatever you want. Its sad but it seems that general society requires something to hate or deem lesser than themselves. Smokers seem to do this to a lesser extent though. I'm not a sociologist or anything but smokers and glbt people are probably the 2 largest groups left that don't apparently deserve freedom in the US.

Cops are the ones I choose to tag with my general hate or the govt. Realistically though I'd be fine with them too (generally speaking...) if the war on drugs ended.

I live in a teeny tiny little farm town. You just can't go to the city and walk up to people on the street and say "are you gay, can we be friends so I can say I know a diverse group of people?".

What I don't understand is how the pledge can be viewed as an endorsement of religion. A lot of religions believe in God, or Gods, or Goddesses, thus the pledge having "Under God" in it is hardly an endorsement of religion.

Hell, you don't even have to belong to a religion to believe in a God, or God.

Wicca - 2 Gods, A God and a Goddess
Catholicism - 1 God
Judaism - 1 God
Mormons - 1 God
Islam - 1 God
Protestant - 1 God
Buddhist - God
Deist - 1 God

About the only people that don't believe in a God or Gods are Atheists.

So having "Under God" in the pledge is hardly an endorsement of any 1 religion which is what the founders meant when they said Freedom of Religion. They did not say Freedom from Religion.
