Is a grow worthwhile for personal use

Would you trust the average market place moron ( my apologies to all the honest people ) to properly pack and actually ship ?
I mean if i can get a 300$ lamp for 50$ why not.tell him to put a few shirts over the lamp or maybe ups gives penuts. I never shipped but maybe the company can pack it for him

My philosophy is a little different , the risk has to be worth the reward .
Let's use the $300 light for $50 as an example .
I live on a fairly tight budget , not complaining it just a fact . So cash for The extras in life is important to me .
Spending the $300 for the light new would have less negative impact to me then losing the $50 if something happened and I didn't get the light .
for those with more discretionary cash to blow it's the exact opposite , loosing that $50 isn't that big a deal .

Why not meet up? Doesn't always have to be shipped. You are driving 2.5hrs so why not look around and make a stop if it is along the way? Beats shipping and possibly might find a good deal on somethings.

I’ve got an HPS setup I’d sell you for cheap if you’re interested. 1000 watt umbrella style reflector with an upgraded hydro farm cord/plug. 1000 watt digital, adjustable ballast - you can select 400, 600, or 1000 watt settings, and 2 bulbs MH and HPS. I used this setup for about 3 months to raise seedlings in an open room, when I was trying to start a farmers market for peppers. My wife got sick in 2019 and that dream is now done with. The ballast alone was $200 with tax. I’ll give the whole setup for $200 - to a good home. It will help supply some heat for your grow too. I went back to “normal” home scale, and the light just sits on the shelf now.

I see the logic and when possible like getting new stuff when starting a new project. Companies stand behind their products, while used gear is a little bit of a roll of the dice. There is great stuff out there, but the point of the kit is ease of getting started. When I moved about five years ago I had to throw away an old HPS light, perfectly good hood and bulb but needed a new ballast. Literally couldn’t give it away. Left it on my lawn as a freebie, nothing. Would’ve been great for someone with parts sitting around, but would have caused delays for a new grower getting started. The kit was key to me. Harvested smokable bud within a few months of receiving it and haven’t stopped. Pays for itself over and over.

I'm trying my very best to avoid making the trip to Michigan, I think I can keep my sanity long enough to get threw one grow without anything to puff on

The quality of the cannabis you grow yourself will far surpass the dispo garbage. I can see you are on the lighter weight side of tokers, not a dang thing wrong with that either, so I think a 4x4 tent will do you well as far as a nice stockpile.

The one thing I would advise is researching strains very well. If you are starting from seeds make sure you find reputable seeds. It makes a big difference starting with quality seeds. Hit me up if you want me to send you some to get started.

There are many good deals out there and with black Friday coming you should be able to score your grow equipment cheap. Source some Promix potting mix and some Botanicare Pure Blend Pro soil formula grow and bloom (quart on eBay or Amazon for 23 bucks each) as you can grow very fine cannabis with one bottle and it is very forgiving and easy to use, mostly organic.

There is a Vivosun grow kit on eBay for 329. 4x4 tent, led light, fan and filter. A deal like that gets you started cheap and see if you like it.

Promix bale is 20 bucks. You can use Fox Farm, Roots Organic, Coast of Maine. Lots of good soils out there. Just stay away from cheap ones like Miracle Grow.

Botanicare nutrients 45 bucks. Ph Down 10 bucks

Pots 10-15 bucks.

That's about 400 for the entire setup. With the right seeds you can yield a half pound no problem your first time out. By what you said about 2 zips lasting so long, that half pound could last you a half year or better.

Shoot me a message if you ever have questions or need a hand!

Go for it !!

I would agree that as far as quantity goes I am on the lighter weight side of things , My obstacle at the moment is access , I've simply gotten old enough that it's no longer in my social circle , threw death , retirement and such ....
An issue I have along with many older smokers is tolerance , that first buzz of the day is great , diminishing returns after that . After 2-3 days with a strain it's time to take 4-5 days off .

I miss my twenties and thirties when I could smoke all day everyday , the tolerance wall really hit at about 40

And thank you for the offer , I'll take you up on that and send a message In a day or two .

why don't you just get a medical card through veriheal? you'll be up and running and off to an ohio dispensary within a few days. why are you wanting to drive to michigan when medical is legal in your state?

Hi
So I live in ohio where as we all know recreational is going to be legal.
I am excited as I haven't had a supply in many years . My first thought was to just jump in with a tent and start growing my own .
Until I added up the costs ...

Then I looked at Michigan prices and the cost to make a 2.5 hour drive .
Let's take out the joy of self reliance and stick with pure financial aspects.
Let's say I make the drive buy 2 ounces of bud and 10 grams of concentrates and spend say $500 .
That's easily going to be a 3-4 month supply so I'd have to make at least 3 trips before things ramp up enough in ohio to be able to buy locally .
With the price of getting started in a 2x4 grow tent , seeds , nutrients , electricity etc etc etc ..

Is it at all possible to grow it myself and be money ahead ?
I'll say that, YES, it's worth it. Why? Because you not only get to supply yourself, you also get to learn a new skill that will ALWAYS come in handy, i.e., growing your own (anything). If you're like most of us small timer/personal-use growers, then you get to experiment with ALL kinds of different types of weed. You might run into something really special along the way that you'd never find in a commercial store.

Yes, it's a pretty big investment right up front -especially if you get good equipment. But, if you take care of everything then it will last you for years. I've had my Hydrohut Silver edition 3 X 3 tent for about a decade now and it's as good as new...and it's not even a great tent by today's standards! In fact, most of the stuff I've been growing with is ~10 years old. My Jack's 3-2-1 nutrients will last me at least a couple years The only things I can't seem to stop buying are lights! It's a problem! ;)

EDIT: I didn't realize I'd already responded! Anyway...CARRY ON!:)

There's a whole myriad of reasons not to use the medical system , loss of some rights being a big one .
And the prices are just flat out rediculous, 50-60-70 bucks for a tenth , yea a tenth
