Hey guys I've been lurking a bit, I have an old armoire I was going to turn into a small grow cabinet. It's about 1.5ft x 2.5ft x 4ft. I just plan on growing a plant or two for personal use.

My question, is a HLG-60H-C700B going to run two CREE CXB3590 3500K's and is this enough light for the area for veg and flowering? I'm just trying to double check with more knowledgeable people before I drop money on these parts.

That's less than 25 watts per square foot. Three 3590's would squeeze the full 70 watts from a HLG-6--C700B. https://www.rollitup.org/t/matching-drivers-and-cobs.883866/

For vegging yeah...but for flowering those 2 cobs at 50w each would give you 26watts per sqft. 3 of those cobs with an HLG-120-1400 would be 40watts per sqft.

Okay thanks for the fast replies!

Last question: if I get a 2ft X 5.88inch heat sink from heatsinksusa and mounted the LEDs to it with thermal adhesive, would I be able to get away with passive cooling (provided my cabinet has decent airflow), or would I need to attach PC fans to it?

After a few weeks of info-farming i've become an understander of this DIY-led porn industries.
As always there's a but..
To consider: 60x60cm space that later on will become 75x75cm.
In this space i would love to be able to have 6x cxb3590's.
Since we are in the high w numbers of the space, a B (dimable) driver version is the one for me.
What i have a problem understanding, is due to my grid (230v 50z) how am i choosing the right driver?
Cooling options: is there anything else than active due to the cm2 limitations?
While going active, i have the same problem choosing driver due to my grid.
So with active cooling, do i aim for high effect on plants or efficiency?
Fan options for active: i've seen these! complete with alu heatsink, less part assembly probs.
Any options that will fit my plans better?
Lens: The white angelina looking 90degr cup. probably the cob+holder+cup package from Jerry at KB.

When i expand to 75cm..
Should i go 4 cobs now and add 2 later on? (just an idea)
Distans from plants to light source? i know the spread, but can i get too close? like HPS burns/bleeches?

I see a lot of known names in this thread, thank you who ever spends time answering my ????
Hopefully all the "read more, search more" comments can spare server GB space.

No feedback at ALL means?...

If you're worried, use fans. It's $10 for the fans and $5 for an apv 12-12

3 CXB3590s 36v at 1.4A?
Would handle it passively easily.

Or may be someone knows a fan driver, for 3x arctic F8 (0.16A/ +12V DC), that would fit?
A Wall Wart will work just fine for your fans look for a 12v output that has at least 1 amp even a 1/2 amp will work for 3 fans
see the math your fan pulls 1/16 of a amp

Hey
I'm growing in a 80x80x160cm (2.6x2.6x5,3ft) tent, 9 platns at a time in 11L pots. I was using a 400Watt MH/HPS with a cooltube and want to switch to a DIY LED.
How many Cree CXB3590s or CXB3070s would you recommend for that size?

I might be wrong but @1400 yer using 50 watts per cob
And a 240 is 250 watts
so my math says no ? 5 works IIRC for a 240 series @ 250 watts & 4 works for a 185 series meanwell @ 200 watts
that's 56% effient iirc on both setups @ 1400 ah

Let's say you were going to light a 4x4 area. You've already got 2 TimberLED 3K 3590s but want to add moar and do it DIY. 3590s would be the choice, but how many? Seems there are a few driver options too. Let's say, most ideal setup mid 50s in the efficiency range? 2 4 COB strips in addition?

working on building led with 3590's with 3500K. i see 2 step and 3 step 3590's on Mouser and Digi Key I don't understand the difference and what people are using.
Thanks for any help on this - they are not cheap and I don't want to order the wrong ones
